Episode 40 was a good wrap up to this whole drama. Kind of glad they didn't spend so much time on the wedding part since I thought that was what they were going to do. Instead they decided to wrap up unfinished business in a very clean manner. Really liked how Xia Lin was finally able to get some justice for what happened to his wife - that was an emotional scene. Overall, I am satisfied with the last episode. And really glad that they showed GYY's son actually take his last name and show him some respect. Did wish it was from the start or at least once he joined the army but, nonetheless, glad that they decided to include that to make the audience feel that GYY's sacrifices weren't just for nothing and he did receive some kind of credit towards the end of it all.

It was a fun ride. Enjoyed conversing with everyone on this page about the drama - it was fun 🥰🥰.

I felt it would have been better in the romantic aspect if they did just do a JNZ/GL and HY/GYY. Made it simple without all the weirdness that came with it. But it is what it is - it was a fun ride lol. Now, onto Xiao Zhan's next roles - glad to see how great of an actor he is and how much he has evolved. I knew he was good but to be honest this role just made me realize how really good he is. I sort of wished they didn't butcher his characters arc just so I could see what GYY's story had in store for us and XZ had for us - but it is w.e. Time to move on to Gu Wei & Shi Ying 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰. Really excited for Shi Ying since I can't wait to see how he acts in it - most likely breathtaking.

True. I think there were a lot of factors that maybe prevented CCTV from airing it - the main being the whole billing issue that CCTV later on did bring up. There were still parts I really enjoyed but I just can't get past the rainbow farts that they kept giving GL. I have never seen a c-drama where they constantly just compliment the ML. In most of them they would have a roadblock and find ways for the ML to get past it - the most they would do is say that they have faith in them and they can achieve it but that too only once not on a constant basis. I felt like ripping my hair out everytime they mentioend GL being amazing at a certain point.

My thoughts exactly. GL felt more like the typical SML in many c-dramas that we see. The one that constantly gets in the way of the ML in both his love life and professional - but in GL's case he just succeeded in it. But, the way he was written just makes u hate the character so much. I don't mind praising a character sometimes I even enjoy when my favorite character gets praised but the amount they did it was what bothered me. Like, just say it once or twice but they spend like almost an entire episode just talking about how great GL was. Like, thats just ridiculous. And their need to make him look good they always made it seem like GYY was nothing which was something that also bothered me. I felt it was just a lot of complimenting and not really any action. Like the last battle stimulation - I never once saw GL use any kind of tactical plans but yet the praises just kept on coming. I am just like for what? He has had no plans - he just keeps throwing things in the air and hoping something works.

Whoever wrote his character did a poor job at it and really ruined it all.

Agreed. I felt they forgot that he is a human being and that his safety comes first rather than winning a drill. Losing a drill does not make u any less of a soldier but losing someones life could demote you of rank. And his idea of "oh, well we need to take it seriously just in case real combat happens" - yes that is true but to a certain extent. You can't just throw out common sense and put people's lives in danger just because. I mean we have fire drills to show how people should evacuate but no one is going to start a real fire just to show the autheneticity of it. It was just dumb on their part - like the overreaction of the drill by them felt unnecessary to say the least.

I felt the same rules that were applied to GYY were not for GL - like this man was able to twist the rules however he pleased. Like oh these guys are the observation people let me make them my hostages and now I have a bargaining chip against GYY. It just felt stupid for the most part. I know people are saying that GYY inviting civilians to get rid of their provisions is the same thing BUT it really isnt. In real war people actually use civilians in their battle plans to get rid of their resources like GYY was doing. But to make someone that wasn't a hostage into one out of no where is just never going ot happen in a real battle. U cant just have 1 of ur own soldiers be a hostage for the other side lol - the other side is going to think ur crazy lol.

I actually though Hu Yang would confront JNZ after she asked her to see her alone. But I guess I was expecting too much lol. The fact that JNZ wasn't really there for GYY even though HY left him in her hands - I feel really upset HY. U could tell that she was very perplexed by how things turned out and that GYY just feels broken and not the same person she had come to love and admire.

I just finished watching episode 40 and honestly, even though I knew it was just a fairytale, I was still hoping for a miracle lol. Wished we could free GYY and let him have his own true fairytale - the one he deserves. Besides for 2 people clinging to him and not even appreciating his efforrts.

AGREED! That part was absolutely ridiculous and just goes to show that A Xiu never told her son all the things that GYY did for her and him. That he brought them out of poverty and made them into educated people - that if it wasn't for him she would have been raising this kid by herself and he would have no kind of real future. No man at that time period would have married a widow with a child - its sad but that is the truth. So, it should have been her job to at least tell her son or at least make him respect GYY for all the thigns he had done for them. But nope - she decided that it wasn't of importance. Like I AM GOOD.

I am grateful that the last episode we see the kid change his last name so there is some semblance of chage with him but episode 39 really bothered me. 18 years is not a small timespan and its not like he is that young - u should be able to tell right from wrong at that age. But whatever. I wished there was a divorce but knew it wouldn't happen. It just feels like GYY sacrificed everything - the future of his generation just for THIS?

THIS! I understand adrenaline can push people past their limits but adrenaline has limits and does die away after a few hours - these soldiers have been fighting for days. They should have collapsed & honestly it was a DRILL. I don't know why they were risking their lives for a drill - like they actually thought it was an actual war or something.

Well I don't think there is any other kind of story right now. So, it should just be the marraige and that is it lol. So, I guess we will see JNZ in a wedding dress again. But this time with a conscious GL lol. Feels like I am going to be fast forwarding a lot tomorrow.

I really wished they were together - I feel at least this way GYY would have been happy. The amoutn of sacrifices GYY made for A Xiu and her son just to get THIS? Just feels so unfair. Hu Yang was better for him - she actually knew how much he sacrificed and how much he was sufferring. I feel they would have done well together to further progress in their field and still have thier own romantic life. And the fact GYY doesn't have his own kid is a bit unfair - and I don't even think they can because of the 1 Child Policy that China has implemented during that time that they are in.

Yea if I am not mistake GL was 19 when Xiaofei was born so he should be 37 right now - both of them. So, its a long time for sure but I mean they could still get married and most likely will in the last episode lol. But I do feel like they kind of really extending this romance between them out a little too much - they should have just gotten married because it just feels ridiculous at this point.

He might be immature but the fact he talked about him like that - was very disrespectful and shows his character. This man has raised u when he didn't have to and ur acting like GL is ur "father" and bestie. Just feels ridiculous to me. True parents do sacrifice for their children but thats not really his kid - he just did it out of duty and I know people say they dont need praise or a pat on the back but most people actually do. They want to know that all the things they gave up meant something. Exactly why we have mothers day or fathers day - to show our parents that yes we love u and we are thankful for all u do. And for this kid to say that - it just means he didn't see it like that and just thinks GYY is in the way. That he loves his mother and thats why he is there - when that is not the case at all.

Xiao Zhan did a great job at portraying an older version of GYY - it really looked like he was aging while others not so much. But I know he did do his best so he could portray that about himself.

Yea episode 40 is most likely going to be the wedding scene since I don't think there is other content to really touch on.

I would have preferred the original rule and had GYY lose than. Would have made more sense for the script rather than making GL look like an impressive Rambo/Robocop type that is able to fight off an entire army all by himself and just do everything himself. Just feels, again, that they are trying to make GL look too impressive while making GYY seem like a nobody whose efforts mean nothing. And the fact that the 48 hours time limit did not accomplish that task they decided to increase the time so they could make GL's victory even better. Just dumb to me in general - bad writing or I guess better way to say it is that its BIAS writing since their main task isn't to write a cohesive storyline but to make a character look cool.

She didn't agree with him being a soldier when she was like 16 or 17 - she was quite young while A Xiu is more mature. However, u could see that when they met the 2nd tiem around she accepted that he was a soldier and never once told him to quit. She still loved him - she just dind't want him to leave her.

And yea he might have never loved her at that time but it could becoem love like they are trying to show with A Xiu and GYY now. He never loved her either but since he made a committment he started caring for her. I feel they could have written it that way for Hu Yang - where she helps him with his grief and he slowly falls in love with her. Liek they do in other c-dramas. A lot of people have a 1 sided love but eventually the other side comes in term to falling in lvoe with that person.

After watching episode 39 I am more inclined to not like the whoel A Xiu & GYY relationship. After knowing the son finds GL more likeable than GYY - I felt his sacrifice was for naught. I am not a fan. GYY deserved better for all that sacrifice. But I can understand u being team YiyeXAxiu I just can't find mindself joining ur team though lol. I am sticking with wishing he helped her without marrying her lol.

Its so dumb in my opinion. They could have kept with him being disabled because being a tactician he never needed to even fight. But the constant need to make GL look like the amazing fighter that he is prevented them from using logic and threw consistency out the window -_-
