RIGHT? I feel the editing department tried too hard to keep too many GL scenes while taking out everything else. This wasn't necessary one bit. Or at least they could have done it when they were still in the academy - but right now? I feel it just seems like those 10 years were just about training and GL didn't even try once to get with JNZ. And knowing his character - that just seems unbelievable at best. I can't imagine GL not following JNZ everywhere she goes and not at least asking her out once during that time. I mean she has grown to love him - so there was some interactions between them. Just so strange!

Agreed. I feel that is what makes a great character. For us to be able to question what his actions are. Some people might believe what he is doing is right while others believe he isn't and he should try to live his own life without worrying about others (ME! lol).

I think Xiao Zhan did a great job portraying his character - he delivered his lines perfectly and I feel in a way the audience can truly sympathize with his actions but still feel he kind of deserved more. It's funny because I really love the character Gu Yiye even though there are a lot of flaws in this drama the character itself is wonderful. I think he gives a lot to be discussed and makes u wonder is that really what someone would do? Or would I be willing to give it all up just so someone else could be happy? I really wished they were able to showcase more of the character in the drama and not cut his scenes so much - I would have loved to see how he got past all that grief and how he got the relationship with A Xiu the way it is now.

I agree. I feel regardless of time JNZ well always be ahead of GL like she has been. I mean she was a talented new recruit - practically everyone said she was. So, this idea that he has to wait until he is good enough is ridiculous. He didn't care when she was dating someone and was with GYY who was just as talented as her. They were pretty much seen as the top students by the others. So, he was willing to fight than and compete but now isn't? Just seems very strange. Especially when JNZ has grown to love him and would say yes when back than she didnt and constantly said no.

I am also not a fan of A Xiu and GYY - I just feel I haven't received any reasons really to root for them. I feel they are like here they going to be together and we are supposed to be just okay with it. Well, I am not. I need actual footage to be okay with this situation.

I am really disappointed in how much of GYY scenes they cut out. I knew they were going to but wished they would make it reasonable but to barely see him in the last 3 episodes is just ridiculous to me at this point. I feel we are just having to use our imagination for his story.

There is a douyin trend that is absolutely the cutest. It's the scene where Gu Yiye asks why JNZ didn't wear the red dress he gave her. And pretty much fans are showcasing their red dresses 🥰🥰

Thats what I thought of why he lied because he didn't really look like he wanted to break up with JNZ - I think if she said the right words he would have given in and just stayed with her. But it would still eat him up that A Xiu is alone because of him. I mean in the end it is complicated so who even knows lol.

Now that u mentioned it - ur right. All the relationship developments we have seen have been with couples that haven't really worked out. Maybe tha is why it is so hard for the audience to be okay with the new relationship couples. I mean I am okay with people ending up with someone else because that is how life works - not everyone marries the first person they have dated. I just wished they spend the same amount of time they did as in the previous episodes. Maybe cut out the extra rainbow farts that they spend like entire episodes on and just give us some material on how their relationship developed.

But I am still so invested in the show - like it still make me wake up and watch the new episode everyday lol.

Yea it just feels like they are dragging out just for the sake of it. I mean it has been how many years? Maybe like 8+ years and he hasn't gone for it? But he says he still loves JNZ. I feel he really just went after JNZ in the beginning because he was trying to compete with GYY and just couldn't stand the fact she was dating someoen else. But now that he knows she is single and isn't interested with anyone he he kind of just is complacent and is okay with how things are -_-.

I understand but what I was talking about was when the guy that has a crush on JNZ now got rejected by her. GL practically was like SEE - u should give up & stuff. And practically threw him out the door. I just found it interesting because that is the old GL who constantly chased JNZ - there is just so much similarity. And the guy bothered GL because he did get mad when he was throwing him out.

PREACH! I feel they cut so many of GYY scenes at this point that we aaren't going to get the proper relationship development or at least show us how he was able to get past all that grief and sadness. Like one episode he is so depressed he doesn't know how to live anymore and than the next after all those time skips he became happy. I understand they cut a lot of his scenes but they couldn't keep some just so we could know or at least see it.

Xie Lin & Hun Chuyu - I think its just editing at this point. I feel the time skip should have at least showed some extra material rather than just throwing us into this mess of all these relationships.

The guy who is around JNZ is pretty much the old GL where he likes her and keeps asking her out - and she just says "we are just friends". And GL hates him lol. I guess now he knows how GYY felt all those times he kept pestering JNZ when they WERE dating & always meddlign in their relationship lol.

Ahh, makes sense & I can understand trying to make sense of someone's actions especially when they differ from our own standards. But, it's like the constant flaws from his character that keep pouring out just eventually tire u out and prevent u from liking him. It starts to become a daunting task of having to find an explanation for every one of his wrong decisions/flaws. ----- Well, personally I think they were frenemies even though some claimed they were best friends (never saw the friendship in the first half of the drama). It could be possible than to say that he had no loyalty to GYY and could try to steal his girlfriend. However, as a viewer, I could see that as a horrible quality and dislike him because he would be considered a "homewrecker" and in our society that is deemed unlikeable. No one is going to proudly claim that they are adamantly trying to steal someone's partner especially when they already tried and the person said NO (several times). After a while u would have to think they are just ruining that persons happiness due to their own selfishness.

Thats a great question. I feel in that instance there is nothing anyone can honestly say to defend GL. Maybe they could say he said it out of anger but I feel a rebuttal to that kind of argument would be that he should never have included himself in someone else's breakup. And a breakup, that is not ur own (especially since the breakup probably made him happy since he has a chance now), should not be a good reason to tell someone to just die. I feel GL who also witnessed war should know better than anyone the harsh reality that GYY is living through and how much pain he must be in. To not be able to at least sympathize with someone who is going through a heavy moment in his life just makes him inhumane and selfish. I understand he was able to get past it but not everyone is built the same & when a person is telling u how hard his life is - I really don't think that is the best moment to shove a relationship down his throat that is going to do more harm than good to his psyche.

Ahhh, sorry I don't think I have any BTS clips where Johnny talks about GL. Not saying there aren't any but I am a Xiao Zhan fan so I wouldn't really know much about his situation. But I do feel that GL falls short due to poor writing or poor editing. But I agree some actors can turn an absolute killer into a sympatheitc figure if acted in that way. Haven't seen Shang-Chi but Zod from Man of Steel I feel would be a great example as well (using ur Superman reference lol). Even though he was a villain I feel the actor who played him did a great job in making u sympathize with his reasonings behind it.

Hahhaha I think thats a pretty good comparison. That JNZ would be Lana Lang & not Lois. And YES! I did watch Smallville lol. I absolutely had a crush on Tom Welling back than. It was a great tv show - actually bought the entire show so I could rewatch it 1 day when I have the time to see all 10 seasons again lol.

Oh, I didn't know about the Li Qin interview. Ahhh she is such a great friend. But I agree I don't think I could see Li Qin play A Xiu. I think the actress who played her is doing a great job. Like A Xiu has that quiet but strong personality when she is on the screen - I think the actress portraying her knows what shes doing.

I hope we get to see more of A Xiu - I just feel we aren't seeing much that I can't really make a judgement about it just yet. But I have never disliked A Xiu's character it just seemed unfair to me that GYY had to sacrifice so much and couldn't even get someone he loved just because he loved them. I know he could eventually fall for A Xiu but I wanted a relationship that started off as love - thats all.

Ahhhh, thanks for this. I was really confused by the chain of events in the recent episode & didn't know what was happening. But it seems like 720 just became complacent of being #1 all the time that they didn't really care about training for the sake of being better soldiers during war. Rather training just to beat their competition.

Yea, I feel losing an exercise might not wake them up especially once they find out that GL did cheat and help the other side to win. Wouldn't they still just assume they are great - but only because GL allowed the other side to claim victory it caused them to be defeated. Just seems like a bad plan in my opinion lol.

I agreed with GYY's statement about taking things 1 step at a time rather than the abrupt change because I don't know how many people like to be thrown into something. It's like exercising - its easier to start off slow and than build urself up. So, GL throwing his recruits into a situation that they are not similiar with might not be the best plan. And I feel that it might rub some people the wrong way because they are training the recruits in 720 - so to just tell them that "hey ur methods are wrong" might not sit well with them

That is practically how this drama handled it as well. They depicted how each person went through a similiar ordeal but handled the emotional toll differently. But Gu Yiye's situation was a bit different from otehrs (at least those that we saw on screen) since his life was basically saved by someone and it cost them their life in return.

I can understand your statement about "all is fair and love and war" but personally feel that when its amongst supposed friends or at least people who are "brothers" in war they should have some form of respect for one another. And the constant need to insert himself within someone's relationship just doesn't seem like something a decent human being would do especially after being rejected so many times by the said person. It just seems to ruin that person's overall character and tends to make him enemy #1. But I can understand if you believe that its justified because he is just fighting for what he wants - we all have different interpretations for different actions.

Ummm, this is another hard question lol. Even though u already know about his constant butting in with Gu Yiye & JNZ relationship - that didn't bother me as much as I thought. There was also the constant nepotism that was being shown throughout for him that I just couldn't take - it just felt like everything came easy to him and he didn't really work towards it and always got off being punished. BUT the one thing that finally made me give up on him was when he decided to tell GYY to commit su*cide after he was going through grief and basically told GL that he just couldn't live like this anymore. GYY just wasn't able to get past all the grief he had from war and hence he broke up with JNZ. And the only thing GL cared about was the break up - and not the fact that this man is having a hard time. Telling someone to commit suici&e when they are already leaning towards that direction just seems like a complete as*hole move and makes that person's character irredeembale to me.

Hahahah, I am the same. Spoilers sometimes help me decide if the show/movie is worth sticking around for.

This is such a complicated question – because “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. But to try to answer it – I, personally, am enjoying it even though I know what is about to happen, but u might not have the same opinion. Personally, I find the journey tends to be more enjoyable rather than the outcome but then again, I am the type of person who also watches basketball/football games even after knowing who won and what the score is lol. I would say to try your hand at it because even though there is criticism towards a specific character, I do believe it does have an overall great story; especially Gu Yiye’s. His character and story make you believe that is how soldiers who have witnessed war and came back alive feel; when others didn’t. How those soldiers would try to move forward but also showcasing others who don’t have the same experience, for comparison (showing that isn’t the only outcome for a soldier after war).

I also believe because most of the viewers, right now, are watching this drama day by day rather than bingeing it. Hence, we are more inclined to see every detail within the episode and due to that we see Gao Liang’s actions full force and deem them unquestionable and egregious. While someone who watches all 40 episodes, at once, might be able to have their experience more diluted and not see all the flaws that we are from the main character, GL. I still believe his character is unsavable, but he might be more tolerable for a person who doesn’t stop after every 1 or 2 episodes and is allowed to analyze his actions after it.

Has for the drama being military centric – I would lean more towards the aftermath of war and the affects they had. There were a few episodes that had war scenes and they were very emotional & raw – those scenes did require a break. Overall, I think if you’re okay with military strategy, technological advancement, seeing how the military works and seeing how soldiers try to come to grips with loss and the decisions they make to overcome them than I would say watch it for sure. If not, that just give it a pass. But definitely watch the trailer - it might give u a good enough idea 😀. I hope my opinion helped 😀

I understand what u mean. But I just don't think JNZ would hate him - I think instead she would want to wait for him or try her best to change his mind u know? I think that is what he was afraid of. That if he told her the truth about leaving her for A Xiu because of his obligation. I think she would tell him not to and that they could find a solution. And he probably beleived he wasn't strong enough to say no to her when it took him this much courage to break up with her. And he would just be constantly filled with grief and pain because on 1 hand he loved JNZ but on the other he can't let go of the feeling that his life is no longer his own but that of Zhang Fei's. And he has to take care of his wife to fulfill the debt he has when ZF gave up his life for GYY.

Like I said its very complicated - like I can understand both sides.

Well, that is a flaw of Gu Yiye after all lol. He isn't really a people person but he is a loyal soldier. And he is self sacrificing above all. Hence why his story is so tragic because we want whats best for him but he doesn't. He just wants to push forward and sacrifice himself because he thinks that is the best solution for the other person, never thinkign whats the best solution for himself.

GYY is like the person who is alone in the rain just making sure things don't fall apart. While everyone else in the show are watching from roofed buildings and saying how pitiful he looks or just ignoring him in general.

No one, once, just offered him help. It wasn't until GYY already put all the burden on his shoulders did GL finally help him & that too when he gave up on JNZ. I still don't think he would have been this helpful if GYY decided to stay with JNZ but help A Xiu in a different way.

I still sort of wished that GYY has someone else (maybe Hu Yang) but at this point I won't mind A Xiu. I just wished they developed their romance or at least showed it more so I could feel some kind of emotion about them getting together.
