Oh really? Ummm so the synopsis could be wrong. Well that means it might be the case and they are talking about the same girl. But I wonder if that means that Gu Yiye is going to marry someone significantly older than him. Because the teacher does seem to be a lot older than him.

*****SPOILER******* (Not really but a guess that could be a spoiler, if I am right (who knows about that lol))

So, I was watching some episodes again and I saw episode 4 where Gu Yiye is on the bike with one of his teachers. And the guy says something about not all girlfriends are the same as his Xiu . . . . . GYY's future wife's name is A Xiu. Is it the same person? I know from the spoilery synopsis that he marries his old squad leaders daughter - I am guessing maybe the daugther part is not right and its his gf?? Idk, it just seemed interesting that they have the same name - so why not take a leap in assuming that lol.

I am going to add this because I sort of forgot lol. The thing that did get me mad was when Song was saying all that to GL - GYY was hearing all of it. And idk it kind of made me mad for him - because he started whistling knowing that he was going to get in trouble for a situation and this guy out there convincing him to lie so that he has a chance to compete with him. That would be upsetting for anyone so I guess that did sway me more into thinking Song was a snake (and still do a bit rofl - still think ur pov is understandable but that scene was upsetting just seeing GYY along in the room and whistling to himself readying himself for whats about to come because he can hear them talking about shouldering the blame).

Idk how to explain it but I feel I prefer it when they do the trianing segments rather than the romance drama/w.e. GL is going through. And now he is acting like a complete ass. I did like Nanzheng's reaction though - it really felt like she loved him when he got sick. Ahhh its making things hard for me now - because we know the end result.

Ummm, u know what. I think ur selling me lol. I can see ur point about him not wanting his friend to get demoted so he thought this was the best option to sort of let everyoen shoulder the blame. I can kind of see that - still think it was a bit snakey lol since the truth was that it was GL's fault. But, I can see that his motivations were good and he was just trying to help his friend who already got demoted once. And knowing GYY he probably would have taken the fall if it meant helping him because he felt bad already that he got demoted the first time around.

U know, now that u mention Zheng Yuan. OMG ur right. I actually didn't see it like that before to be honest lol. But yea, the moment he realized Gao Liang was involved he made sure to do his best to get the situation resolved. And his punishment was so strange as well. It felt more like a reward in a sense. Like he doesn't have to do all that harsh training but instead just warm up his foot bath water (w.e. it is lol). He pretty much is just his secretary - I mean maybe for him he wouldn't like it but he hasn't complained yet. Just feels like a vacation really - don't see the punishment. Maybe more people should kill domestic pigs so they can also just be a secretary and not have to kill themselves with the training. Yea ur right just because he has a sob story does not mean u should baby him or not punish him. Ur a commander so if u play favorites how would u be able to control ur soldiers. They will just be like well u let it go for him so why not for us as well. Like there won't be any structure.

Girl, I hate him. This man told Gu Yiye that he is going to steal his girl. When practically everyone knows that they are technically dating -_-. I want to smack him. Dude has become that SML in c-dramas that just can't take no for an answer and does everything he can to sabotage the main couple. But in his case he does succeed (GRRRRRR).

ROFL, Gao being dumber lol. U would think that would be a hard thing to do. So, for me, episode 12 was like the breaking point with Gao's character. I was really upset that he practically told Gu Yiye that he was going to steal his gf while the man is suffering. If a friend did that to me - I would remove them from my life. I feel Gao Liang wouldn't have been so bad if it wasn't for the romance parts, at least for me. I can take his goofiness at times and its even funny (but a little overdone at certain points). But whenever he sees the girl he just sinks for me - its like he throws his moral compass out the window. He feels like a SML in c-dramas where they constantly pester the FL into falling for them and then does his best to sabotage the main couple when he doesn't succeed. I feel thats him in a sense.

Well, sadly I don't think Gu Yiye will end up with NanZheng :/ . . . . it has been spoiled already for us lol. I am doing my best to get myself ready for it because I do like their relationship but I know I shouldn't. And that is another thing that does bother me - knowing Gao gets the girl but he used underhanded tactics to get her. Idk it just bothers me - like he is getting credit for actually stealing someone and just constantly getting in their way. Sorry, I feel like I went on a bit of a rant there lol. Yes lets enjoy watching the drama and disucssing it :D. It's still a great watch - I mean if there weren't problematic characters than it would also be boring to watch lol.

To be honest, I would have agreed with u if not for Lu Pingfan. The guy was like I will find a way to fix it and if I have to I will take the blame. But Song Jianshe for some strange reason wanted to do it his way. But in the end Lu Pingfan was the one that did fix it. He got the commander and explained their situation to him - it took some good luck but the situation got resolved. Not because of Song but because of Pingfan. I feel Song just wants to throw other people under the bus rather than work out another solution - and his main goal is always throwing Gu Yiye under that bus. So yea, I would have understood and thought it was rational if not for Pingfan. I actually like him - I feel he cares for his trainees and want them to become the best and understands that people make mistakes. While the other guy just is looking out for himself and doesn't care how many poeple he has to step on to get there.

Agreed, I did like the dialogue with his father. Shows how he came up with his answer and why he did. He thought in like a practical sense so that he could have room for leeway if worse comes to worse.

Yes, Gu Yiye is also flawed. I mean how boring would it be if he was a perfect soldier lol? It wouldn't be any fun to watch. Like the fact that he is smart but still fails shows that eventually he can evolve into someone better and utilize the information he gets in a more appropriate way. But character wise Gu Yiye is quite noble and to a fault of course. He sometimes does need to know to think about himself first. Like the watch incident where even though his watch cost him 300 he gave it to someone else for 80 - and only cared about him not getting scammed. Didn't think of himself. And when he realized he faulted Gao Liang without knowing all the details he was quick to try to resolve the issue because he knew he was at fault - so yes a flawed character but at least he knows when he is wrong.

Now with Gao Liang I can understand what u mean by a pure heart but it does get thrown under the rug when he is constantly trying to steal NanZhang from Gu Yiye when he knows that they like each other. A person who values friendship wouldn't really do that, u know? I mean we have difference of opinions so u might think differnetly than me - which is fine. And ur point on him not telling a lie about his involvement - I feel if he did lie there would be no saving his character. But in the end we might just like different characters which is cool lol - difference of opinions are fun allows for more conversation.

I need someone to look at me the way Gu Yiye looked at that popsicle :)

Agreed, but I do feel its too late for us though lol. Maybe it will help the new people coming in but it has been spoiled for us :/ . . . ..

Song Jian She, congratulations u officially a snake. Did this man really just tell Gao Liang to lie and say it was both his & Gu Yiye's fault? Last I checked it was GL idea and he was the one that got ALL the credit when it was a good idea. But the moment it becomes a problem u decide to throw Gu Yiye under the bus? Ummmm, good to know that even army officials aren't immune to being snakes. Like I thought he was trying to test him or something but NOPE he was really making him change his testimony to agree with Gu Yiye who decided to be self-sacrificing again and say they did it equally (which we know he didn't because it was GL who gave the idea about digging the hole). Just glad he had some sense and didn't say it was all his fault or Song Jian She would not be trying to save him the way he is with GL.

Gu Yiye, that IDIOT! . . . . . like I understand his reference about the animals in the zoo but dude u got hurt so badly!!! I get it, if you don't think outside the box or u don't think differently than how would u achieve something. Hence why he used the zoo reference, if u don't "hunt" and just let someone else do everything for u (cut the meat) - u lose who u r and just become lazy and no longer have that beast mentality or in his case the soldier mentality. But, I do feel he risked too much in that situation - I mean his arm might never be the same.

Gao Liang . . . . sometimes I feel he just doesn't get it. BRO, the girl said she doesn't like u TWICE. And u know that Gu Yiye and Nanzheng are "dating" but yet u have the audacity to tell this man who is sick that I am goign to steal your girl? I am trying to like him but everytime the romance part comes in . . . . I just can't stand him. Who does that? Who tells someone I am going to steal your gf while they are recovering -_-. Time & Place much.

Well at least it is not romance based and it is just a drop in the bucket for this drama. However, it is upsetting to know the circumstances and also know the end result. It just feels like we are watching a couple that should have ended up together but didn't because someone else got involved. Like no matter how they do end up together I feel I won't be happy with the transition

LOL, well here is hoping that the romance has less focus becaues I am enjoying the other parts for sure.

I agree with u!!! I feel that would be annoying for sure. Like I can take them being in the same kind of level but him being above would just be wrong in all levels. That means all the work this man did and the fact he forsake his love just went to waste.

Ahhh, I did see someone post about the timeline but to find it again would be like finding a needle in a pile of needles lol. I just know it is approximately a 40 year time span. And it isn't just a jump from 1983 to like 2018 (I think). Like the synpsis says u get short bursts of time skips.

I mean maybe I wouldn't have disliked GL character as much if I didn't know he ends up with the girl - but the fact he is using all these underhanded tactics and gets the girl. Idk to me it just feels like he stole that relationship rather than received it. So, yea the spoiler stuff definitely make u think differently of him since his tactics he is partaking in is making u go "wow, so this is how he got the girl"

Oh right I forgot about the first time he guilt trips her. I feel his way of wooing the girl is a bit demanding at times. I mean I get it - he is not happy that she doesn't pick him but to force the situation is also wrong.

Well I doubt we will find out when they get together anytime soon lol - but I mean she did look at the shell that he gave her as a gift so maybe idk she is opening up to the idea. But not really happy about the whole thing still. It just smells of him stealing the girl rather than getting the girl.

I do agree. But I am guessing they are trying to drive home like a rags to riches story for GL. Which is fine if that is what they want to do but I feel undermining someone else's achievements to drive that point does make u look at them funny. Like not every person comes from a rags to riches story there are plenty of people who come from a middle class family - do their achievements mean nothing just because they weren't born poor? It just feels weird.
