As a big fan of your insights, I urge you to post these thoughts to a proper review and attach or even incorporate all your contributions because you have no idea how helpful it is. But if not, then at least just make it a discussion about historical insights in the discussion thread so it doesn't get lost. Of course you shouldn't tack it to my or anyone else's write up - it would be intellectually dishonest and would not give proper credit to you. I am sure I speak for many to say how much fun an enlightening it has been to watch this with you. Ah ok - I am gonna watch a few of My Best Friend's Story too just because of Ni Ni but I may not complete either. I got unexpectedly hooked on The Penalty Zone - its so good I keep binge-ing it. I think my fav this year was Winter Begonia by a wide margin and I loved Ancient Detective also. I watched a few of Fearless Whisper but lost momentum. I may go back to it. I know I won't be able to find any of the older shows you are watching, I can't even find Qin1 in Chinese! BTW - still waiting your review for this...

Honestly I laughed so hard at the Lao Ai story you posted my stomach hurt and my eyes bugged when I googled some more in Chinese... Yes it was a giant waste of drama time but it was definitely the best laugh I had in a drama for a long time. That Sima Qian had a diabolical sense of humour!!!

Tyvm - yes indeed their resemblance is striking in that scene but they still shouldn't have rolled out Zhang Luyi that early. They should have just stuck to using more subtle parallels like how he he stabbed the clown mocking his mother the same way his uncle once tried to stab Lv Buwei to highlight the rage that runs in their gene pool.
