They really didn't over do the twists here, they got it just right. I was thinking of starting Psych-Hunter as well but I saw some mixed reviews. Sounds like you like it, no?
@Skibbies is a walking encyclopaedia of drama as far as I am concerned, not to mention her history and linguistics skills... She knows practically every show, not just the historicals. I check in with her regularly to see what she is watching - we have an ongoing chat about shows on my Feed - I think anyone who is friends with us both can see it.
It is a benign comment; people on this thread need to chill.
In my spoiler right at the bottom there is some omitted footage re: the kids and what happened there.

I agree with your point though that they also went out of the way to show he was beloved and revered... at least at the beginning of his reign.
[And sorry to digress... I didn't watch Jade Dynasty and I know only a little about any of those actors you mentioned.]
Also kind of random, but I am glad they weren't explicit what happened to Lao Ai's kids.
I also found it interesting that the peasants took up arms again and defended their king because one of Ying Zheng's lasting accomplishments (?) was to de-militarize the peasants and professionalize the defense which of course left China vulnerable to conquests for centuries to come because the peasants/interior were not able to defend themselves. Once the border falls its essentially game over.
