Although the first 8 episodes are slow, there are many character intros and I think if it went any faster, it would be overwhelming so I am ok with the pace. Both leads also are not yet in character but this is often the case although I am surprised for an experienced actor like ZYL. The script is terrible and the dialogues are unnatural and stilted and the dubbing makes it seem worse. I know that the actors have quite a bit of discretion to change the way things are said to make it more natural, which they do when they rehearse the scenes ahead of shooting. This does not appear to have happened here. I wonder whether this is because health precautions during covid limited the amount of pre-shoot rehearsals they were able to do. I am willing to be a bit forgiving here because the story has potential. As for all that age gap, its not that visible to me but I have most recently been watching a 40 year old man play a 13 year old in Qin so I guess it is all relative.

My dad has the DVD for 1, I just have to be able to travel home. And I am not sure if my DVD player still works I haven't used it in years... But yes I don't have to watch the seasons in sequence I am happy to jump around...

Its bat shit dumb stuff like this that makes me bonkers - I am geo-restricted on the Chinese version of Qin 1 but I have access to the ENGLISH dubbed version! How does that make any sense? Anyway, I am gonna just have bite the bullet and use a VPN to watch it.

No, not really. Both Lv Buwei and Li Si were huge advocates of using "foreign" talent and Qin empire always were open to using the best talent no matter where they come from. Indeed both Lv Buwei and Li Si themselves are immigrants or foreign talent. But it is clear Ying Zheng's relatives are very racist. They think they know better and are better than all the non-Qin guest talent. They feel entitled by their race (of Qin) and their relationship (of Ying) to high office without considering whether they are the best people for the job. Ying Zheng had a great vision though, he understands that it is easy to conquer a kingdom but integrating them takes a common language, culture and means to advance in the new unified country. So the foundation for everything is put in place well in advance of the unification battles.

Thanks for this, I was going to say something pretty similar but you've put it better. I do think the script writing is quite poor and the dialogue is not natural, it is stilted and stiff making it hard for the actors.
