Mrs.Yu may be a scheming villian..but she is a feminist through and through (not the fake men hating type, genuine women must have their rights and power and respect type)..she had appreciated old lady Fu despite not liking her scheming ways..in the very first episodes she had told YJX old lady Fu works herself to bones trying to keep Fu family together as they don't have any reliable or dependable male and doesn't look down on her...she had tried to side with FTY initially when Zou lady was throwing her tantrum...and now her support of FY even though she knows she is vile herself, and her respect for her personal maid....hate her or not...this lady deserves respect ✨️ very well written and acted... Also more than men playing politics, it looks a lot like women running the empire behind the scenes...be it making connections, getting people appointed, motivating their men to follow the right path...weirdly feministic 🤔🔥😂
What a sore loser this YJX is. Getting drunk in broad daylight after not getting a post that he was only in the…
He is ambitious from before, but he knew because his father is in secretariat there is no way he could rise officially...he had asked his mother same question before that if she had to choose between him and his father who would she support...and she had said that is the reason he has to top the exams as no topper had ever been sidelined no matter their background...and he had agreed to study only if his mother got him married to Yake... Now he realised true character of Yake, his rise to power is being kept in check...so he lost everything he wanted because of his own scheming...
There are quite a few lines and scenes in "The Road to Splendor" that feel like little life lessons—things about people, choices, relationships and simply knowing how to live ✨️
FTY way of helping Ms.Wu and also getting back at Yu, finding an ally in Mrs.Wei and getting Chongsi selected...wow 4 targets with one move 👏 👏 Loved the couple's disagreement, anger, yet silent support of each other throughout... Also not all couple fight all the time..friction happens in those words said sometimes of good intentions but are hurtful nonetheless And initially ZL was all "powerful and arrogant" during lunch, but later when Chongsi gets selected and the advise from Master Zhao he is impressed by FTY but his ego is still hurt...loved DYX's cute anger expression...those few moments of our old Zhao back And Madam Yu getting tea thrown at her and her realisation her husband loves FTY...never been so happy to someone put in their place ❤️ ❤️ i was honestly hoping she'll mind her own business after this, but some people never change...hope to see her really suffer
I don't have so much time to watch dramas so I wanna know if it's really worth watching?
The characters, story, and choices they make are as real as it can get...if you don't mind a story where the characters are not one sided, make mistakes, are imperfect...then I would highly recommend it as this has a very coherent plot and character writing
The scenes in this drama make the characters feel so much more real. ZL says, “Do you want a moment of glory or a lifetime of clear conscience?” and then the very next day ends up giving in to temptation. When he comes home, he is clearly struggling with his choices, while FTY, completely unaware of what happened, is happily celebrating the possibility of their return to the capital. Madam Yu, though villainous and scheming, still stands by her DIL when she realizes her son has feelings for another woman. FTY and ZL have been together and gone through hardships for more than 5 years, yet FTY still wants reassurance, and ZL, being thick-headed doesn't understand what she needs in that moment. 😅
There are so many little scenes like this throughout the drama that make the characters feel human. The villain isn't just evil, the heroes aren't always moralistic, and the relationships aren't written in black and white...the characters are allowed to be flawed, imperfect, vulnerable....the drama showcased the multifacted nature of being human and human relationships... The scriptwriter, director and the actors have done a great job
Zhao ling set the standards way too high right from the beginning… he was extremely considered kind and compassionate…
They have been couple for 5+years already and they have a sense of comfort and understanding with each other...this is a classic couple talking past each other , where FTY wants reassurance and ZL is baffled by her jealousy...honestly this scene made the drama more real for me than showing an ideal relationship..... Couple face this even today...the lady/the guy will be like can't you say love me and we are together..and the other partner is baffled because their actions are always indicating their partnership
Even the Wu niece understood for her to have some standing he needs to rely in herself and not her husband or marriage, Fan Yake still doesn't get it...SMH I love how the drama handled the disagreement between couple...FTY or ZL need not always listen to each other, but still discuss it and each do what they feel is right, and have each others back always...
How thick headed is ZL to not realise all FTY wants is, for him to tell her he is not taking a concubine because he is devoted to her and only her.. especially after she says maybe I am jealous...seriously ZL...SMH
The whole salt reform and salt administration plot is confusing me 😅 I don’t understand a thing
So far what I understood is salt merchants exchange grains for salt and they were allowed to have permits because of it...but because of corruption salt doesn't really reach the border areas and merchants of south are not able to thrive or conduct business or something...as entire system is corrupt I guess the reform was to shift from barter to silver or money payment....this is what I understood...it wasnt that clear to me either, I hoped this would be cleared in furthur episodes
The scene where they showed FTY stepping on ZL to get into carriage....the clear difference where ZL then was youthful and somewhat more alive, and now his eyes hold shadows of responsibilities/pain of his journey...and FTY also carried herself with maturity, much different from her previous ways...the growth, the burden...very well acted..and director did a great job👏 👏
The scene where FTY is full of joy because she assumed ZL's credit got approved and they can return to capital and ZL in emotional turmoil at having sacrificed his conscience for his brothers and FTY...was so raw and relatable...very well acted
Nothing comes easy...I am glad they didn't show Commander Wang helping ZL just because he is the ML...him stating his reasons for wanting to help him really elevated the storytelling.
honestly seeing the villians suffer in this drama is very satisfying 😂

I’m collecting the ones that made me stop and think, “That’s actually worth remembering.”🫡 in this link
