Maybe it's because I work in the movie business & I know that actors don't have to engage in massive make out sessions or sex scenes to authentically portray 2 people in love. All the innuendo, sighs & longing looks that's prevalent in Asian dramas are contrived and childish. I mean I don't think adults behave like that, even in Asia. It's so middle school. LOL! People in love can't keep their hands off each other. They're always hugging & kissing -- it doesn't even have to be French kissing, but a show of genuine affection: pecks on the lips, cheeks, forehead, hand, putting an arm around each other etc. Usually these aren't too awkward for the actors, western ones at least. Just any small gesture like that would make things seem more believable so I don't really know why they make such a big deal about it.

I don't know why it's like that. Having never been to Asia I don't have any firsthand impression of the social climate there, but if I was to take a guess I'd say it doesn't really have anything to do with shyness, per se. I think it's just conservatism. I think it's fair to say they still adhere to traditional (& what many Westerners might construe as sexist) values where women are expected to behave with decorum so as not to be perceived as loose & wanton. That said I can't see how their society isn't influenced by the rest of the world so I'm sure Asian young people are just like young people everywhere else. They date, they make out, some have sex (even before marriage). For me, I find it annoying when the physical interaction between characters in dramas (and even some movies) are non-existent or forced.

Yes, to me he's super handsome. I love looking at him. He currently stars in That Winter, the Wind Blows & there's a very young version of him in a movie called Madeleine (not a fav, but nice). That's where I first saw him, but I really started to like him in A Dirty Carnival. He doesn't work enough to suit me.
The music has to be really outstanding for me to even remember it. To date the only OST I've added to my play list is the one from A Gentleman's Dignity. It featured music from an artist called Big Baby Driver (pretty cool name, huh? :). To me, she's quite good. She sings in English & at 1st I thought it was some Western artist. I've also added a few songs from Coffee Prince. I only remember the violin instrumentals from OD. I thought it suited the mood of the show so well. What's the name of the ending song you're talking about? I'd love to look it up.

I've received a couple requests from 12, 13 & 14 yr olds. I have nothing against teenagers, but I can't justify why we should be friends. We don't have the same interest or tastes in dramas or movies, I'm not much of a k-pop fan & I tend to fangirl over old guys in their 40s (just look at my favourites list). So it'd be very boring for them to have me as a friend, I think. As for the infamous 'A Frozen Flower', yeah I've heard of it & I've debated several times with myself whether to see it or not. I like Jo In Sung. He'd be my only motivation to see the film. I think he's one handsome man & a relatively fine actor, but I don't necessarily relish the thought of watching him loving it up with another guy on screen. I'm genuinely not a homophobe or anything like that. Entertainment of this sort is just not my cup of tea so I'll probably never see the film.

It's good that you take of your parents. I personally think it's an important value to have. Older people have a lot of wisdom that can help us make wise decisions & our parents are our anchors. I'm shocked when people ask me why I prioritize my mother in my life over friends & boyfriends. To me the answer is obvious. My parents devoted their entire lives to me, sometimes sacrificing their own wants & needs to make sure that I have a decent life. The least I can do is to make sure they're comfortable and feel loved in their old age. I've never gotten used to the way how elders & parents are treated by their children here in Europe. In the United States it's the same for sure, but in the Caribbean where my mom is from children are taught from a young age to have respect for those older than you, especially where your parents are concerned.

What's GAdventures?
Haven't seen "In Time with You" or "The Woman who still wants to marry". I presume you have? How are they? I've heard that the latter is somewhat Sex & the City - ish. I never got into that show so I tend to shy away from from dramas that are replicated off of it. I do prefer more mature shows. I don't like the fake, cutesy stuff that's so prevalent in a lot of dramas from the East. I prefer to watch shows about adults living in an adult world. That's why I don't watch Asian dramas about high school or college students because the story lines are always immature & the romance reminiscent of childish playground crushes. I think that's why I have a slightly bigger preference for Japanese dramas. They're not afraid to acknowledge that sex exists & that the characters engage in it. In K-dramas even mention of sex is a big No-No.
Oh dear, I hope they don't break up! I love these two together!
Can't wait for this to be released.

How long have you been an addict? I see from your completed list that you've seen A LOT! Also noticed that you have the movie 3-iron on your PTW list. This movie is my all time favourite movie, of all movies. And there's a reason why it makes a lot of people's favourite list here on MDL. I strongly recommend that you watch it sooner rather than later! I don't really know your taste, but there's a great possibility that this movie will leave a strong impression on your heart.

I've watched the odd few romantic drama (the genre) series & I prefer those to silly romcoms and those melos with all the cow bawling. Unexpected You is somewhat of a romantic dramedy. And it's quite different from other dramas in that there's not a lot of same old cliches, they're trying to redefine Korean in-law culture etc. So I do like it, but I'm not loving it. I don't feel compelled to marathon it, but I DO feel compelled to finish it where other people would have dropped it. LOL, I know, my other mdl friends are always laughing at me as well whenever I torture myself to finish a drama I'm not really feeling. But I'm just like that. Dunno why. I think it's a mild case of OCD syndrome, but it takes A LOT for me to drop anything. If I do drop a drama/movie then you must know that I thought it was completely and fully horrendous. hahaha

I started it, but haven't finished it yet. I don't know if that bodes well for the rest of the film, but we'll see. I'll finish it at some point.

Oh thank god, I actually hate romcoms! LOL But wait ... I don't really care for melodramas either so is this melo? Unexpected You is cute & I like the fact that certain story arcs don't get dragged out to death, but 23 episodes in I'm still waiting for it to really pull me in & get me invested. For other people this might warrant dropping the drama, but I'm very patient like that. It's rare that I drop anything because I have a bad, probably OCD, habit of finishing everything I start. Anyway, at the beginning of the show I really liked the lead female's husband but he's starting to get on my nerves because he's coming off waaaay too perfect while everyone else around him are flawed and more human-life. If you like long dramas (58 eps), then give it a try and see if you like it (if ever the mood strikes you to watch it :).

Oh awesome! Are you watching it? I'm currently watching the lead actress in Unexpected You and I quite like her. Let me know if you think this drama is worth a watch. Does it have a good romance plot? I'm a romance junkie so rarely do I watch dramas where romance isn't a significant part of the plot. :)

Hey stalked your profile after viewing your comments on Pattie's wall. :) I noticed that you recently completed Sweet Sex & Love, where did you watch it? When I first found out about it I searched all the usual places for it but it wasn't available. Also how was it in your opinion? Any good? Thx.

Life is so short. Even though I'm still relatively young, I feel like time is ticking away & there's still so many things I haven't accomplished. I think, God forbid, if I die tomorrow, I'd die with a lot of regrets because I haven't fulfilled any of my dreams. So all we can do is pray for a long life & the hope that we'll get to do the things we want. While solo traveling can get lonely, I love it because you dictate your every move without having to consider someone else's preferences. I'd love to travel with my husband 1 day. I think a couple that can travel together in peace, will also stay together. As for dramas, I'm more of a movie buff really, but I've seen a few dramas. I mostly watch SK and Japanese dramas, but I also have some Taiwanese & Chinese dramas on my list. I've seen Coffee Prince. I liked it, but didn't love it. Gong Yoo is so hot. I'm not much of a K-pop fan.

When I contracted my drama addiction last year it was all about South Korea for me. My familial roots stem from the Caribbean & I recognized a lot of cultural parallels between the Caribbean and SK. But lately I have really started to like Japan too. Not that I didn't like it before, but I like it more now. I never had an interest to visit Japan until now. As a matter of fact before Oct 2012 I wasn't interested in Asia or Asian culture at all. Now I want to spend at least 6mths of my 1 yr RTW trip exploring the entire region. I've been a solo traveller all my life. It gets lonely, but my relatives don't have the same interest or time to travel & most of my friends have young families so they can't afford to travel. That's why I want to wait to acquire those things because I feel like there's still so many things I have to do & places I have to see.

Well, the only tip I have is to make use of your young adulthood & travel as much as you can now while you have minimal responsibility. I really, really wished I had understood this when I was your age (I'm 8 yrs older than you). I spent most of my time travelling the EU, North & South America, the Caribbean, but I had many opportunities to go to Asia, Africa & Australia which I never took because I was distracted by things that I now realize weren't important at all. To me travel & experiencing new people, places & culture is the best teacher about life. So yeah, I'd say travel, travel, travel ... far and wide. If you can afford it, consider a gap year dedicated only to travel. You won't regret it. Now that I'm such a fan of Asian cinema I really can't wait to explore that region. I'm planning a RTW trip for the near future. How was Japan? Did you go their recently or long ago?

Thanks. I did a lot of travelling during my student years when my life was less stressful & free. I miss those days. I wish I had taken the opportunity to travel to even more countries because I had the time & the money. Now life as a grown up is all about working and paying bills, bills, bills. I still try to travel every chance I get though. I can't wait to visit South Korea & Japan. I don't know if I'll ever have kids, but it'll be nice to get married before I'm 40. I'd like that. However, I want to do things at my own pace, not because well-meaning family & friends pressure me into it. :)
