very interesting article!thanks for sharing your theory. i'm not quite sure if we can really continue the revolution…
Me too. Even though I had watched quite a few Asian films prior to my drama discovery, it was dramas that piqued my interest in the region to fangirl proportions. Most of my friends and family are like me before I caught the Asian bug ... it's not even on their radar. When I try to talk to them about it, they respond and then promptly change the subject. So for now I'm alone on this journey. It's all good.

Yeah, I know how the system works in the UK. I went to film school in London and worked a few projects there before returning to Norway. While I do take your point and can agree to a certain extent re: the UK entertainment industry (I know nothing about the business in Asia so can't comment) I'd say looks does play a role here too. Perhaps not to the extent it does in Asia, but don't be tempted to think its so much better here. I've been in many casting sessions where directors & producers reject people for not being pretty enough even when they have the talent and are perfect for the part. It is a business that is heavily reliant on looks no matter where, I'm afraid. The ugly people best stay behind the camera, and even there there's a dirty tendency to resort to looks when hiring crew & such. Like I said, a cancer. If I didn't love it so much, I'd get the hell out!

Hmm ... Matt Bomer, never heard of him. The fact that he's gay would mess up the fantasy for me though. Not because he's gay of course, but because I know there'd be no chance with him, ever, not even in my own little shangri-la! :-)

I've seen Intimate Lovers, yup. Anything else up your sleeve? I like edgy films like these. It's even better when the have a strong romantic element and a happy/satisfying ending like Chunhyang.

Sure, Hollywood is guilty of the same, but I'm pretty sure there are other gorgeous guys flowing around in society who have absolutely NO interest in the entertainment industry (besides working in the industry myself I wouldn't want to get with someone who also works in it! This profession can be a cancer, esp to relationships! :). As for what I'm watching, mostly movies at the moment. I'm about to start A Tale of Two Sisters. Prior to this I watched 2 movies based on an amazing love story, Chunhyang & The Servant. I highly recommend! :-)

Hey Sam, thanks! You done know ... we affi represent! LOL
Addicted was a great movie! I loved it. I love Lee Byung-hun's backside in it & basically I just love Lee Byung-hun haha. He's a great actor. I've seen Secret Love, yes. Not a bad flick. I need to watch it again because I saw it all chopped up on Youtube. I also love Yoo Ji Tae, another great actor. If you can watch The Servant I'd highly recommend it. It's a great love story. In the meantime if you want to find Chunhyang (which is based on the same folk tale as The Servant) you can find it here: http://stagevu.com/video/ksmavzhebjcj
Excellent article! Dramas have opened up a whole new world to me. I've discovered a new language & culture…
I've always known there are attractive men all over the world, but it has just never occurred to me to look at an Asian guy in that way. Maybe because of the circles I move in. Both professionally and socially I interact very little with Asians, not because I don't want to, but I've never had the opportunity. Only when its festival season I get to meet and chat with filmmakers from every corner of the world. Also sometimes communication for both sides is difficult due to the language barrier, but now with my new-found confidence and interest in the region I'll be taking the initiative to talk to them from now on! :-)

I know, right? Dramas have just whet my appetite! Now I can't seem to get enough, learn enough or make my first trip soon enough. LOL It's madness.

You're longing for childhood? Why on earth? You're at a good age.
I'm longing for the days when I was just a lazy student like you, going to classes, watching movies and having fun with my friends. I didn't have to worry about finding work and paying the bills. You'll understand what I mean when you reach 30. ;-)

Happy New Year to you too! May 2013 be a year of happiness & fulfilled dreams for you! :-)
I'm the dog (haha, it's so funny saying that).
I'm liking the sound of my Chinese horoscope for this year. It's uncanny how true it sounds. As long as I'm alive, I'm ready to work my ass off to accomplish my goals. I just hope there'll be a good payoff for my blood, sweat & tears. 2012 was a very wishy-washy year for me. I'm ready for BIG, positive changes in my life so bring it on, 2013! :-)
Excellent article! Dramas have opened up a whole new world to me. I've discovered a new language & culture that fascinate and excite me. Dramas have inspired my career as a filmmaker and my desire to explore a region of the world that has never really registered on my radar prior to my discovery. I have also found out that I AM attracted to Asian guys! Gosh, you're never too old to discover something new about yourself! Just a few months ago I never woulda seen that comin'! :-)
