Of the three 2012 dramas I've seen A Gentleman's Dignity is my favourite & of course Do-jin oppa was my favourite amongst these ahjussis. I have to agree that the show felt like it was conceived with Jang Dong Gun specifically in mind. I'm only sorry that they paired him with Kim Na Heul. I don't particularly care for her as an actress.
Thanks for this list. I had already black-listed Big, Rooftop Prince & I do, I do. The others I don't know so much about, but wasn't planning to watch anyway. I do have To the Beautiful You on my list though, but based on the fact that its here on this list I'll have to investigate further whether it's worth my investment.
Dr. Jin for sure! I'm a BIG Jaejoong fan, but not even his character made me watch the drama quickly. I wonder…
Actually you're not alone re: Queen In-Hyun Man's. I'm mystified why everyone thinks this drama is so great when it is neither better nor worse than your average k-drama. It had all or most of the same annoying (romance) cliches and the rules for the time travel were all over the place. I liked the Jesoen Kim Boong Do, but I found his speedy adaptation to life in the 21st century completely unbelievable. I know he was a smart man, but still a person coming from so far back in time would have at least been a little overwhelmed by all the stimuli that exist in our world. The leads were cute together, but for me that's hardly enough to justify its widespread critical acclaim amongst my fellow mdl'ers. I guess I'll never understand. It's okay. :-)

Well, no, there was nothing wrong with your language, but I felt like the question came completely out of left field. We were talking about western movies then all of a sudden you asked me about Korean romance so I got confused. I didn't make the connection to Chunhyang. It was after I went through the entire conversation (going back & forth between my profile and yours because I just had to figure it out) that's when I thought ... maybe he's asking about the romance in Chunhyang. And even then I wasn't sure. You should have just mentioned that it was in relation to Chunhyang and the confusion/misunderstanding would have been cleared immediately, but you just kept mentioning romance, romance ... while I screamed at my screen WHAT ROMANCE??? Haha ... my Yobo thought I was going crazy. LOL

ROFLMAO ... dude, what have you been smoking down there in India today? LOL
You don't know why you asked if I'm satisfied with Korean romance? Could it possibly have something to do with Chunhyang?

Huh? I don't understand the question, nor do I understand why you're asking. I recommended some western films and out of the blue you ask about Korean romance? LOL Am I missing something? I'm confused ...

I've watched a couple shows/movies (non-Asian) where I found it believable as well. Usually both were within the same generation (for eg, their 40s) so they had a similar frame of mind. For me the older (more mature) the man is the easier it is for me to believe that they can handle an older woman. When shows feature young guys in their 20s hooking up with women 5 or more yrs older than them I don't want to watch it because I have difficulty believing the relationship will last.

Well, there were a variety of reasons why Autumn Concerto didn't work for me both in terms of production value (how it was made) and acting. You can read my review of it to get a better impression of what I mean, if you want. That is not to say you'll have the same problem. Since I work in the film business I tend to judge dramas/films in a slightly different way than someone who simply watches for entertainment. Moreover, it's not that I didn't like it ... I did, but I didn't LOVE it as much as I should have considering it is a romance. It's not so bad though that I'd recommend people stay away from it. By the way, what did you watch as your first J-drama? Did you watch Pride?

Ah, Autumn Concerto ... the love story that could, should have been epic, but wasn't. For me. Hope you enjoy it a lot more than I did. ;-)
I haven't seen any drama of late that I loved. Just came off a long haul with a drama named Loving You A Thousand Times. It was very meh ... I wouldn't recommend it. But I've seen some really awesome movies. I loved Chunhyang! But I'm not sure this movie will appeal to everyone. In my opinion it's a film that appeals to other filmmakers or people who understand the intricacies of filmmaking. How's School 2013 so far?

I disliked the heroine more than I dislike the overall drama. She's such a huge part of the show (it's her story after all) that you have to have a good relationship with her in order to overlook the show's flaws.
And I finished it because it was like a train wreck I couldn't look away from. I'm also someone who finish everything I start. Maybe you'll like it a lot more than I do so you should probably give it a go and see for yourself. :)

Based on your review of My Name is Kim Sam Soon, I've decided to delete it off my drama list. Moreover, for a variety of complex reasons I don't like older woman - younger man combinations (esp when the man is in his 20s). Actually I tend to avoid them like the plague - no offense to you if you're currently partnered with a younger someone :-). It's just personal preference. Anyway, I liked your review a lot. I've been debating for a long time and it helped push me over the edge of no return. :-)

Thanks for your comment about My name is Kim Sam Soon on the Overrated Drama thread. I just saw it & I'm glad I did because I've been debating whether to watch this drama or not. Everyone has been telling me how great it is and I must admit I've been hankering to see this Hyun Bin person in action (have never seen any of his work before). But, I tend to avoid older woman-younger man dramas & movies for exactly the reason you state. While a younger woman can truly love and rough it out with an ahjussi for the long haul, I don't believe the same is true in 90% of cases with the OW-YM set-up. Sure, there are exceptions to every rule, but I still won't knowingly watch them.
