DWL, you should read some of my reviews. The fake intimacy in a lot of these dramas is my #1 complaint. It pisses me off too when they build the sexual chemistry between the characters for 10 episodes or more then when they finally kiss it's merely a brush of the damn lips or the woman stands there with her eyes wide open like she see duppy. This happened in Padam Padam, my first drama, and I was like I waited 11+ episodes through heartache and pain for THAT?!? I was mad as hell. I wrote to the TV bosses at MBC and SBS and complained. lol

Whoa ... based on ...ing you say? Then I don't think I'm going to watch it because I know ...ing didn't end well even though I haven't seen it. I've taken a hiatus from movies and dramas with sad endings. Thx for letting me know! :)

Hey, nice profile. I see we have a few movies and dramas in common. What's the name of the movie with the man and woman on the beach, the one to the right of Baby & I?

You won't be disappointed. Just finished it and it was amazing! Having just discovered him from this article, it's the only work of his I've seen so far, but I've already morphed into a full-blown fangirl. This doesn't happen very often. It usually takes a few more than one effort before I decided whether I like an actor or not, but man I bought everything Kimura was selling hook, line and sinker from the moment he set foot on screen in Pride.

This is the first Stalker Guide in MDL which I can totally relate to.Before watching any of his dramas,I,too, wondered…
I so agree with you about his charm. I loved the man from the first moment he opened his mouth, to speak and to smile.

Currently watching Pride as my first Kimura drama: I must say that I fell for him!!
It is very easy to fall for him in this drama! For that reason only, I wished Pride was longer than 11 episodes. He's like a beautiful picture, you can't get enough of looking at him. I love his voice and his smile. Sigh ...

About to finish up Pride and man, for a relatively small guy, Mr. Kimura sure is one tall glass of water! Add me to the Stalker club, ladies. I loove his voice. Sooo dreamy... I'd cheat on my husband with him too (if I had a husband!) haha.

Re: horrible kissing with eyes wide open and no participation I'm talking mainly about South Korean dramas. How did westerns get into the conversation? And with all the dramas you've watched, you can't tell me you haven't noticed all the awkward, fake kissing? lol

I'm going to add Secret. I'm not in the mood to see 3 sad movies in immediate succession.

Knight, you can't mean to tell me you're happy with the kissing scenes in a lot of Asian dramas? The South Koreans seem to be the biggest culprits. Kissing with eyes wide open AND one party (usually the woman) not participating AT ALL? C'mon, is that how you kiss your girlfriend? haha

Movies with good kissing scenes? Well, SOGR which had one of the best, most passionate kissing scenes I've ever seen and I loved it! :) Secret Love, The Intimate Lover, Marriage is a Crazy Thing all had not only great kissing scenes, but great love scenes too.

If an ending has to be left open I like it when its sensible, & thought provoking, not ambiguous just to be cool like in SOGR.

Hey, I watch films for entertainment too. I happen to love it when it's technically and artistically well made as well. Rest assured that if I watch an arthouse film that's boring, it's gonna get a 5 or less from me too.

Wow, is it that good? I might have to push it up in the queue then. I didn't care for Uee when she was angry and being spiteful (although she had good reason to). I preferred her when she's all happy and cute. To me she looked like some Anime character with those big eyes and button mouth, especially when she's recalling some special moment she had with Tae Hee. lol I love those two together! I thought they had wicked chemistry, but gaaaawww hated those frozen kisses and the lack of real intimacy between them. Anyway, they saved the show for me because I grew to really dislike Su Young & Tae Bom.

Oh this is great to hear, thanks! Hate frozen kisses. Seriously. I mean who the heck direct these scenes?! I'll give Smile, You a go. Just came off of watching Ojakgyo Brothers which had one of the most annoying leading woman/couple I've ever come across. I spent the entire show wanting to slap them. If I can survive that then I can probably survive anything.

Ladies, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for introducing me to this drama! I'm on EP6 and it is by far the best episode yet. Kimura can act and he's such a sympathetic figure in this drama. Pride has started of my J-drama journey with a massive bang. I love it! I hope the remaining 5 episodes will be just as satisfying! Thank you!

Yeah, I added it because a friend of mine here on MDL had it as a 10 on her list. I'm surprised to see that you only gave it a 5, you who's normally so generous in your ratings! I'm thinking now then it must be pretty bad ...

I swear when I visit South Korea next year I'm going to have a chat with my colleagues down there about the horrible kissing in SK dramas and these wretched ambiguous endings that's so common in a lot of movies I've seen. As fellow filmmaker I hope they'll be willing to meet me ... and if they do, listen. Haha. It's a long shot, but I so do not care. I'm going to try anyway.

Hi. I don't know how old you are so I hope what I'm about to ask isn't too inappropriate for you, but were there any good kisses in Smile, You? By "good kiss" I mean a real kiss in which both parties actively participate and not just stand there like and inanimate object with their eyes wide open. Thx! :)

You're right. I'm a typical westerner. Never really interacted with East Asians, or even had more than a bypassing interest in that region of the world, until I became a drama addict. So I never got used to hearing the accent. I was friends with a South Korea guy at uni, but I didn't take the friendship seriously and lost contact with him. I'll change my ways from now on.

My feeling is that they ended up together too. Why else would he be there? It's either one of 2 scenarios: 1) he turns up there to surprise her and they become a couple because she clearly loves him (and he her) or 2) they're already together and he's there to pick her up. At first I thought that person coming out with the bike was May, but on second viewing I'm not sure. It doesn't look like her. Regardless, my gut feeling is that they're together, but the director just wanted to take the piss.
