It's great that you have something you're so passionate about! :)

What dramas are you currently watching? Are they classics too or both contemporary & classic?

I see on the feeds that you gave JIN a solid 10. It's on my list, but I haven't been thinking of prioritizing it since I'm not that fun of medical dramas.

Glad to hear it! :)
Cha Seung Won is the man. In everything I've seen him in he always plays the same kind of wacky character, but he's so good at it that I don't mind. lol

Aniyo. I've been too busy these pass few months & have had to put drama on the back burner for the time being. But maybe I'll start watching something this week ... I can afford something short, maybe Japanese. Been long time since I touched down in Japanaland.

'The cheating husband that can't seem to control his phallus!' DWL!!! Girl, you're too funny! I'm really hoping the next few eps will start making sense. You have way more patience than me because this is EXACTLY why I avoid these type of dramas about home wreckers & cheats. I don't want to suffer from blood pressure problems in my young age.

What else are you watching that you like? How is Can We Love? Still haven't made up my mind yet if I'm going to watch it.

Ah, Suede-ssi is back (kind of!:) Niceness. :)
First, sorry for the less than speedy reply, chingu. Very busy period for movie producers this time of year. Anyway, no, haven't heard of Blind Beast ... but it sounds good! I'll add it.

After reading your message I went over to Taste of Cinema & spent like 2hrs browsing the site! Their lists are pretty great ... I agree with a lot their opinion pieces (for eg 30 Essential Japanese Films ... many of my personal favs were on the list). I'm going to add it to the series of film blogs I follow though I never have time to really 'follow' them.

What's currently rocking your world?

By the way did I tell you I watched and absolutely loved Midaregmo? If ever you're in the mood for a romantic drama, give it a go.

You know, I'm starting to think that I like Japanese classics (both movies AND drama) MORE than its contemporary cinema. They just seem richer in context, story & detail. I haven't seen that many modern JP films that have moved me like Midaregmo, Realms, Woman in the Dunes, the Yoji Yamada trilogy etc. And ironically the classics are surprisingly LESS prudish than latter day films. #strange

I really want to watch Double Suicide & Woman Who Ascends the Stairs (same director as Midaregmo) next. Remind me again where you found them? AsiaT?

Na yeogi, hajiman ... bappeun! :(

Thx for the update, dongsæng! You're so funny ...!
"This raggedy ass heifer ..." bahaha!

Seriously thx for watching this drama for me because watching it myself would surely try my patience. Nothing I hate more than a man who is pussy whipped by his mom! It's like when the eff are you gonna man up & cut the damn navel string??? Grown ass man & you can't do shit without mom's permission? Bho?

Nah, I've seen too many of these men in dramaland & they make me want to throw up! I know filial piety is a huge deal in Korean society. I like filial piety, but not when it plays out this way. After all, you're not damn 12, you're grown! Mom should have a seat & mind her own business. And if she can't realize this on her own, you need to tell her to butt out.

Anyway, I hope his bitch wife gets what's coming to her. She sounds just like the spoiled entitlement princesses of dramaland that I hate with a passion. It's so low of her trying to come between him & his daughter.

Hopefully next week people will start getting their comeuppance. I can't wait! They've just been recycling the same shit for the last several eps it seems.

Anyway I just LOVE this show! Have never met a more complex, 3-dimensional character like TJ in dramaland. Great for analysis and discussion!

You can argue that he tried to take something that's not his, but the fact is Sun Jin Group is a public company. The Chois may be majority owners, but once a company goes public it's subjected to opportunistic takeovers like the one TJ had in mind. So it's not personal, it's just business.

We saw TJ being kind only to those in his circle because everyone else he crossed paths tried to cheat & undermine him. Remember once he & Seo Yoon developed some sort of alliance ... she too entered his circle (kind of). Every time she'd fished for him to back her up at the dinner table, he did. What that tells me is that if he trusts you, he'll look out for you. Which is how most people are. You're not going to bend over backwards for perfect strangers or people you don't trust, and certainly not your enemies!

I'm not in denial of his faults, trust me. He is a guy that allowed hate to consume him to the point of destruction. On the other hand, I really disliked the fact that he had to die, while a guy like MJ lived. Just something about that doesn't sit well with me. Why did TJ go to such lengths? I'm not convinced it was just for money & power. It was because he couldn't bear to lose to the Chois. If this was just about money & power, he would have given up when he played his last card & lost. But no, losing to the Chois, who has been screwing him & his family over for decades, was just not an option. No matter what it takes he was going to bring them down.

I honestly believe the hate festering in his heart literally drove him to insanity. In that last episode he had a complete meltdown ... he certainly didn't look like a man in his right mind to me.

Hi Sun, I thought I'd better respond to your last comment on GE here since your thread is about to disappear on my feed.

Yes, I agree. Morally Seo Yoon is the better of the two. At the same time she has never had to deal the hardships of TJ's life ... living in poverty, seeing your family suffer & not being able to lend a helping hand. She was born with the proverbial gold spoon in her mouth ... privileged & insulated from the experiences of those less fortunate. Remember when she became chairman she was also forced to do things against her morals. She realized the corrupting nature of having that much power; that even the most upstanding of citizen, like herself, can succumb to the folly of greed.

I believe TJ recognized this too. He just recognized it (& accepted this truth) a lot earlier in his life than she did due to his circumstances. After all, he grew up watching the more privileged subset of society take advantage of humble men like his dad. So he made up his mind very early on to look out for his own interests by any means necessary ... without trampling on other people. And he accomplished his goal by becoming the successful owner of EDEN.

I sincerely believe if he'd never crossed paths with the Chois, he'd be a different TJ. Remember he didn't know that MJ was responsible for demolishing his father's building when they signed the development project deal. It's once MJ backed out of the deal & tried to undermine TJ that things start to unravel. He discovered the truth & embarked on a journey of revenge, to take over the Choi's golden empire.

I've known about Alone in Love long before those who recommended it! :)

I'll watch it. When I'm in the right mood for it. Like most Kimura dramas, AiL is one of those dramas I want to save for just the occasion when I need something mature & solid.

The fat girl storyline in Money sounds a lot like the movie 200lbs Beauty. I had to park that one as the values it imparts to women are so twisted. #smh

There's a lot that I like about Korean culture, but their standards of beauty are particularly dreadful (& sexist). I worry about perfectly normal, impressionable young girls/women who watch these shows and are bombarded with thoughts that they're not good enough.

Keep me posted on your impressions of City Hall.

Oh and another thing to keep in mind about City Hall (and perhaps KES dramas in general) is that the romance takes a bit of time to develop. Don't lose your patience. The romance took off around ep 10 or thereabouts, if I remember correctly. In the meantime there's lots of funny business going on that might give you a laugh or two.

Oh trust me, it's not just the 16 yr olds! If it were, I'd understand. But some grown ass folks on this site act like we're still in the dark ages. #smh

I feel you on Hwang Jung Eum. I kind of knew she wasn't my cup of tea the minute she stepped into frame on CYHMH. She's one of the reasons why I'm not at all interested in watching Secret even though everyone & their mother is trying to get me to see it. I might still consider Money since someone told me the villain here is A-MAZING (from what you've seen, true?). I figure that's the only other chance she's gonna get from me, if ever she gets it.

Seriously I think City Hall is right up your alley. It had the same mature feel as Lovers (with mature leads too), but without the love triangle. No, actually there IS a triangle ... of sorts. But it is so downplayed you almost won't notice it & trust me that other woman is no Ye Jin who will make you feel sorry for her. City Hall has more romantic skinskip too. I really loved it! :)

So do you have any recs for me? Gladly something Japanese since you've been on a roll in the land of the rising sun.

OMG! Totally missed the joke! That's a relief, Aaron. I thought you'd done gone & turned into a prude by hanging too much on this site. Lots of prudes on this site who make a big deal over a little skinship where what basically happens? Nothing. #smh Don't get it. I'm by no means suggesting we get all up in the people's bedrooms, but a few deep kisses & some cuddling are totally harmless and a must for me to buy into and enjoy the romance. I don't know what's up with some people! haha

Ok, so have you decided what you're going to watch next? You know, I haven't watched a drama in over a month now. It's mostly because I'm way too busy to waste time on a series, but also because I myself don't know what to watch. I was planning on something Japanese since it's been ages. Maybe Taisetsu na Koto wa Subete Kimi ga Oshiete Kureta, but it's not necessarily a romance and I've been told I probably won't like it.

BTW, I see that you've dropped CYHMH. Good choice! Wish I had done the same!

Huh? Cheap porno film after they finally get together??? You certainly are singing a different tune from a couple months ago when we had a similar discussion.

I see nothing cheap or porno between two people kissing and expressing their love for each other physically (not necessarily talking about sex here). It's a perfectly natural part of life/being in love.

Then go for City Hall. I don't think it will disappoint (well, I hope :).

I speed watched Itoshi Kimi E ... thought it was just meh. Not much happened in the romance department. But I don't know, you might like it. I tend to dislike half-baked Japanese romances. I prefer when they're like Pride, Aishiteru & BB where the leads actually kiss & have some sort of skin ship.

With that said have you looked into Mou Ichido Kimi ni, Propose? Takenouchi Yukata ... love him! :)

You need to watch City Hall as well, Aaron. I think you'll like it. No huge triangles here.
