Ohhh, your reaction to him got my ovaries perking up! I'm always looking for new ahjussis to fall in lust with! haha Is he that hot? Let me go check him out! :p
What defines a 'strong' woman? Excellence at her job? Confidence? Independence? Her ability to accomplish things without the interference of a man?
I can certainly appreciate the frustration with dramaland's overabundance of hapless damsels in distress, however a strong heroine (or character, really, man OR woman) to me are those who evaluate and tackle their circumstances with good sense & equanimity. I hate characters who whine & buckle. Sometimes strength manifests itself as all of the above & none of the above depending on context.
Female leads often find themselves in predicaments in which they need help from someone & who better to give it than the man they're falling in love with? Does that make them weak? I'm not saying the article suggests this, just a hypothetical question.
Just as with the DiDs, I'm always aggravated by female leads who subscribe to some distorted notion of 'girl power' & refuse help (usually from the male lead) when they really need it. So she'd rather die from cancer than accept the support of her lover (Loving You A Thousand Times) or she'd rather she & her sister be destitute than accept monetary assistance from the male lead (Que Sera Sera). That's not strength to me, that's idiocy. If I'm in need of a warm bed & food in my belly you're damn right I'm gonna take your money.
When it comes to 'strong' female leads my personal favs are Sæ in Orange Days, Mi-joo in Lovers, Seo Yoon in Golden Empire ... to name a few. I've seen none but one (Coffee Prince) of the above. I plan to watch City Hunter & maybe I Need Romance. I hope these women will be the type of strong women I can relate to.

Omo, Ela, looooog time no chat! How are you? I just saw your update about losing sleep because of drama on the feed. I can relate! I hope Kings2Heart will be worth it for you. It's a drama I'll never watch. How was Lee Soon Shin? I've decided to pass on it because I've heard a lot of mixed to negative reviews - people seemed to have thought there was too much focus on the elders and not on the main couple?
I enjoyed watching the bond that developed between Young Min & his son, but was disappointed by the romantic…

Haha, I enjoyed reading your profile, especially the part about fangirling over hot cartoons! LOL
Also nice review on Neighbour 13. I've added it to my list.
You're pretty damn lucky to have visited (even lived in) both Japan & South Korea. That's a highly coveted trip I want to make, though it's still a ways off given how my life is going at the moment! But I won't give up on the dream of travelling there one day soon. It's going to happen, it's just a matter of when! :)

ms. Pien, happy new year.
I've been so-so. What's up with you?
I am curious about Good Years, but I don't have my hopes pinned on it. The woman who pens the drama is known for tragedies. I can't watch those type of dramas, not even for mr. Lee. We'll see what the buzz's like when the drama starts airing.

Autumns Concerto was totally makjang, sometimes bordering on the ridiculous ... if you ask me. I wasn't just disturbed by the meandering storyline, but the production values on this series were atrocious! That dreadful, repetitive instrumental music almost drove me mad, the fact that they would SPOIL future episodes while you're trying to keep track of what's happening in the current episode... I don't know how I made it to the end of the drama! lol
I think that's the reason I've been hesitant about watching the last ep of 9. I hate ambiguous endings. Not because I want everything wrapped up nice & neat with a bow, but because these endings are usually influenced by poor planning. Instead of being thought-provoking, they end up leaving you confused and unsatisfied. From various discussions this is the impression I got of Nine's end, but I guess I have to watch it and see for myself.

Hi. Mars is indeed a lovely drama. I wish more people would give it a chance. I thought Nine was pretty darn good. I enjoyed the story & the romance was done in a way that I like. So overall I was very happy with it & would recommend it to others. I thought it was somewhat better than its predecessor, Queen In-Hyun's Man ... if you've seen that. I still need to watch the last ep, though. When I make a new friend I usually ask them what are their favourite genres. That way I can make recommendations accordingly.
Good read.
I've only seen him in Rich Man, Poor Woman. I didn't care for his character. Though I understood his plight - it's certainly a feeling we can all experience in a similar situation - but I have low tolerance for anyone who acts upon it. Moreover in that drama I was busy kind of sort of falling for Oguri Shun, who I'd just discovered, to have any sympathies for him! lol. Wouldn't mind seeing more of Arata though so this guide comes in very handy. I have Air Doll on the list to watch and a review you wrote about Koi some weeks ago had me curious so I'll watch that at some point too. The incest drama sounds good. I'm wondering how the heck they're going to get me on board with that. I guess I'll have to watch and see.

I really enjoyed 9! I seriously was not expecting to like it so much. I've watched up to ep 19. I don't know why I've been hesitant to watch ep 20 ... maybe because I don't expect there to be a happy ending (or a satisfying ending).
Why did you decide to drop Autumn's Concerto?
You should give MARS a try. You may like it.

Hello there, ms. Juniko! How are you? I'm been a bit busy. It's that time of year to send in applications for production funding so LOTS of paperwork and lots of meetings with film folks. Taisetu has been on my watching list for months. I should either take it down or get to it. hehe Maybe I'll go watch ep 1 now. I'm suddenly curious to know what you didn't like about the female lead. What else are you watching these days? Did you start Nine?

What? A film from 1968 with the same title or an original film? You didn't think the violence was over the top? Wow. lol You're a tough one, aren't you? There were definitely moments when I had to look away (and usually violence doesn't faze me, but I had some difficulty with certain scenes). This is - to me - the definition of 'torture porn'. And that last scene remains stuck in my brain to this day. It is a wonder I'm not traumatized!

I've watched (and enjoyed) a few noona romances, usually when they're incorporated in a drama that features multiple love lines. I like it like that so if it's annoying me or is unbelievable I can skip it. But it's not a theme I actively seek out. I personally don't get the appeal of a mature woman (30s, 40s) wanting to be with a kid (early 20s). It's not a wish fulfillment I have. I can barely stand to be around men in their 20s for more than 5 mins, muchless to have a relationship with one! :) With older man/younger woman at least the younger woman is usually a bit more mature than her male counterpart. Most of the time at least. That said, I do understand the appeal for other women so to each their own.
30 & 40 yr old virgins! Haha ... this is one of the things that pisses me off the most in dramaland. Not the fact that there are 30 & 40 yr old virgins, but the fact that they use the same tropes over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again! I wonder if these drama writers never watch dramas themselves???
I'm looking forward to seeing Haruma in Taisetu even though I can never find the time to start it. I refuse to watch his latest show. When I got into dramas a year ago, I ended up watching a lot of melos with terminal illness & they never fail to leave me feeling down & out. So never again.
Hahaha re Nine. I know the stressed out feeling you're talking about! I had it too! But LJW's character kept me watching. I liked his wry sense of humour & of course he's sexy as heck! I also loved the modern feel of this drama. The essence of the romance was just right, not too raunchy, not too prudish. I couldn't take my eyes off of him! hehe
