It depends what we call honest. I think Comrades was honest in showing feelings. And the quiet way in which was done. I am endlessly tired of k melodrama hysterics and the wailing of women. If that's honest, then I think I have the wrong idea of honest XD. I think western male watchers may have a bit of a problem with seeing so much affection for the squad on screen, though maybe Im thinking wrong. I don't really know how men think.
Well it;s not like they were drama watchers, they were Japanese Conrad scholars XD but they know what;s happening on TV. When I told them hana yori dango they immediately started sniggering at the sily idiomatic title. They know the story of course but they recommended something else. I don;t think they like that drama very much XD

Well, he can;t be everywhere at the same time. Too bad, I really really felt sorry for him. He lost literally EVERYTHING. To remain sane after all this is a feat in itself. But at the same time maybe it was a little humbling too. He can;t save everyone. no matter how much he would like to.
Yes, i saw that haha, it was a bit consoling. How would you describe Comrades? Do you think it;s a male oriented drama? I just think western men tend to shy away from openly expressing emotion. But then there are male users who seem to go really poff the rail with dramas when betrayal and triangles are features. I met some time ago some Japanese at a Conrad related conference. At the time the only drama I was able to mention was Hana Yori Dango. They recommended something to me but I can;t remember what it was but I think I probably watched it by now anyway. lol.
also I just CAN'T BELIEVE what they did to the young deserter >< the north korean let him freaking go but the southernes just shoot him ><

I finished it ;_; the entire SQUAD was wiped out?! ;-; they survived for so long to die one by one in eps 18-20 :( Poor Sargeant. I really can't imagine myself going on after such a loss. argh. I mean technically I was ready for it but when you;re surviving for 17 episodes and then baaam, it still catche you unawares.
But then, don't you think that dramas are primarily targeted at women? Men are marginalised I think. Unless they like romance in korean dramas. I tend to think that most western men would hardly be able to take it. Even on MDL we onl have few men. And they aren't necessarily typical men :P

Yes, Rainbow. Well, the scenes weren't very ling but they made an impact. These scenes included rape and it was rather explicit. Brief of course but explicit. It was sickening. You need steel nerves a bit. But the rest was worth it. It was a tight story about a group of friends supporting each other through thick and thin.
I think in case of anime it's the targeting that is sometimes all wrong. They intende it for a certain audience but it usually almost always is appreciated by a different set. Like, say, Monster maybe. I's just that there are too many simplistic shoujos out there so it;s hard to find good stories. If you venture beyond girl anime into boy anime you may find a slightly broader field of exploration- and find some really tight stories in the process.
Back to Comrades, how can one man be this strong 0.0 They've been through hell at the camp and forced to admiot they have become communists. I can understand that Park;s mind is completely broken to the point that he'd be driven to commit suicide and it;s obvious later the nightmares aren't letting him rest but it's incredible that Lee remains a tower of strength. I want such a strength of spirit.

If you are ever in anime mood, ma I suggest that you could consider trying Nisha Rokubou no Shinichin. There were moments when I am reminded of this anime, maybe because characters in Nisha were in prison. There were sevon of them and the bonds were great too. But there are some graphic/sickening scenes in that anime, just as a warning. It's definitely boy-oriented (for target audience) but I really found that story very strong.
I think I haven't seen him yet in King's daughter, maybe soon. Ah that's rght. I still haven;t seen Our Friend. But after this I will need some time. I am really curious about Friend, Legend though if one of the users found it so emotional that she dropped it.

TRanslation can be pretty funny. But they try theor best, too and it;s good someone does it.
I just wonder where I've seen him before. He looks like the kind of actor that make you go "OH it's THIS guy".
The camp episodes test the limits of loyalty. I'm really keen on camraderie/ friendship themes and this one really does the job. This drama resotres my faith k-dramas on the whole.

I can relate. One of the lines I came across one day: it should have been I agree to pretend to be in love with you.... the subbers did that as "I consent to falling in love cosplay" lol. I try to be understanding but really now literal translation hardly ever works.
And now they're all turning against each other in that camp >< Sheesh. Are they comrades or not, I guess this is where the test lies. It;s up to the seargeant to save the day again bit I feel so sorry for Sargeant Park. I like him a lot for some reason.

I just watched episode 11. Omg he's playing the hero again and that parting in the cave ;-; Poor poor guy. I can;t believe the entire guerilla village was wiped out just like that. I was half expecting that to happen (that idyllic place was just too good to last) but SHEESH ><
See the "fast subs" for Wonderful Days are a joke. Literally. They make no sense at all. I really don't understand how anyone can prefer that over the quality of WITH >< I can;t be bothered with those subs. Luckily KBS has their world channel up but they are 4 episodes behind regular airing time. This is another issue with those own-channel subs like kbs and dramafever subs are no longer so much of a problem. I guess it only becomes a problem if someone watans to watch a currently airing drama.
Maybe some of them from WITH will take up some projects on their own or form a new group with time? It's really sad.
Well, I'd certainly cheer you on if you started subbing, Reise :) I know you'd a wonderful job. But then you'd probably have little time left, if any, for watching anything yourself. It would also be a loss for MDL not to see you around as often :)

Yeah, I"m sad about WITH team. Their subs are the best ><.
Well just maybe someone will pick it up. Interestingly, Lee In Hye will be co-starring with him again! I thjink most of these dramas dog et subbed. It's the japanese that have many many dramas unsubbed, mych more than kdramas. Just another reason to brush up on Japanese I think.
I am really skeptical about this. I loved the first season in a way that I am scared this will ruin things. What…
That's exactly why I dislike sequels. But maybe it will be about the past? If they are still looking for a scriptwriter, who knows what this is going to be about? My first thought was that it;s going to be about the daughter. I can;t imagine anything else except for a prequel as you say.
