Not really, no. Just enjoy the characters and their dynamics, it's fun :D

LPT: don't watch shows involving food early in the morning. It's 6 AM and that food is NOT recommended. But I want it.

Also, Sakuraba is a total cutie.

TBH I postponed 7-8 because there was a bit of a ~choppy~ feeling with the first half. But 7-8 changed my mind - this is good :D

I skimmed a bit of the novel to see what comes up next, since 8th ep ended in a cliffhanger - I think we're safe and they're gonna stick the landing on this one :D

Wow is this bad... almost as bad as The Impossible Heir (a liiiiittle bit better though.)A non-kdrama-watcher's…
LOL @ the part where you can just hear Whitney Houston dropping the ending of IWALY - ~and IIIIIIII-IIII-IIIII will ALWAYS love YOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUU-UUUUU, will always love YOOOOUUUUUUU~~~~ while the ex-bodyguard tells her he's resigning since she's not in danger any more.

Hellooooo!!!! Isn't she still the face of the foundation that actual (supposedly real) terrorists still send threatening letters to?!

That was so stupid.

Also - ooops. only living relative older bro drops dead - FL is doing a quite good impression of a fish-on-land, then ooops, actually loving husband drops dead - FL is doing a quite good impression of a fish-on-land with some moisturized eyes, ooops, suprises from left and right - FL is doing her best impression of a fish-on-land.

And what, did she really love him?! "Yeobo" while he's agonising there?? Since when, pray? Wasn't she already having an emotional affair with Kevin Costner, wait, her own bodyguard?!

And what about the freaking chairwoman - her younger son killed her older golden son - NOTHING?? Forgiveness?? Out of the blue?? LAME.

I wasted 10 hours on this. The best thing about it was that Rain was in it. The worst thing about it is that Rain didn't have any kind of an interesting role to play - that went to the actor playing the cheating husband. Or any good scenes - those went to the butler/lawyer. Or any romance - those scenes went to the mistress. Or anything remotely emotional, EXCEPT for the part where he mourned his partner... which was. Well, I expect that was not really what the script writer wanted to impart, LOL.

Oh well, some sacrifices must be made.

Wow is this bad... almost as bad as The Impossible Heir (a liiiiittle bit better though.)

A non-kdrama-watcher's idea of how a revenge/bodyguard/rich family-type of kdrama should look like.

The worst of it was debating myself for almost two hours through the last two eps if I really-really wanted that lemonade that I have to go through the whole house to get, or if I don't really need it. It was much more entertaining than the ending, IMHO. Still undecided, too.

ETA Well, I decided that YOLO and went and got it. The end (still more interesting than this drama's ending...)

Title The Untamed
i'm not usually a fan of "otherworld" fantasy type stories, but i am really enjoying the characters' personalities.…
There are only five main clans, EVERYBODY IS JIN LING's UNCLE (or aunt, LOL, but mostly uncles), the clans are colour-coded and you don't need to mind but some 5-6 characters. The rest will come to you.

Anyway, there's a shorter version (the Special Edition) but IMHO it's a bit lacking compared to the original version (that looks longer, but it's not that long in the end.) The SE is streamlined to only focus on the main charas, but it loses a lot of details that make it a masterpiece, so I'd rather recommend anyone to (at least) first watch the original version.

I have no idea if the SE is available anywhere on legit sites.

Oh well... the cheating husband IS the best character so far (and the only one, probably). I wish him the best.
So the late chairman left the foundation 13 billion USD, because why? What does he expect her to do with it? What if she did leave the foundation or was forced to leave, or even dead? So stupid. And why HER particularly? What's the reason to trust her the most? Is it because he somehow is involved with the death of her child or did she save his life in some past life LOL, or what? Stupid reason.

The cheating husband is showing more emotion than the rest of the cast put together - Rain included, sorry. And LOL, K1 attacks SDY and he - OBVIOUSLY - can't fight back that well since, let's remember, he JUST got all cut up and blown up, LOL. But he does fight back in the end because dramaland. And is even cool in the face of a loaded shotgun between the eyes, when his friend was murdered and they got away with it... What if YongKook wanted to shoot it? SDY would've been disappeared and that would've been that, LOL.

And now we're two eps from the end... Let's predict.

She doesn't get divorced because she now has 13B USD to help half of the kids in Africa, and she doesn't get involved with SDY because she has "integrity" (not enough not to kiss another man, but let's pass over that.) The cheating husband mends his ways or something and they maybe make another baby together.

SDY gets to arrest or kill Mr. Han and thus takes revenge for his friend. Then he either goes back to the force or looks for another bodyguard gig (a la The Bodyguard, with Whitney Houston singing in the background LOL).

The chairwoman gets exposed and loses her mind or something so she leaves forever for Switzerland or wherever. The End.

Or at least... I hope they have a definite ending and now a hook for a second season, like most Western-made kdramas lately...

They ran out of story sooner than the last few eps, LOL, good thing they're all so cute.

My favourite couple this series - sorry, Yak - Cher and Yei, hands down. I would've liked to see more of them.

But I did watch it through for Great's smile and I'm okay with what they gave us.

Title Sweet Home Season 3 Spoiler
Well, at least it's a bit better than S2 (but that one came after the amazing S1, so it was kind of a huge down-drop.)…
What the hell was that ending for YiKyung though?! She was all become Sarah Connor and killing monsters like nobody's business, then the S2 cliffhanger comes, and then she just... drops dead and that's it? *sigh*

And LJW did manage a chara somewhat different than Sang Wook, but not that different, TBH. The final boss fight fizzled out - while CHS and LEH were negotiating who gets to die the hero's death, the boss killed himself, LOL. That was also just... lame.

And LEY?! What is that final scene? Is she trying to get back her emotions, or at least mimick them? And okay, the neo-humans are there and what? Why are they alive? They don't seem to want to do anything. If the human group didn't get to them, what? Where they going to laze about wintering in the middle of the street? What are they doing for food and shelter? Don't they need it? WTH was all this for?

TBH, the first season had grit. It had heartbreak and compassion and human relationships and dark arcs and lots of pretty good monsters. The 2nd and 3rd had lots of CGI, too little plot for the supposedly main charas, and kind of fizzled out the ending. Maybe not every successful horror drama needs a sequel, just sayin'.

On Sweet Home Season 3 Jul 21, 2024
Well, at least it's a bit better than S2 (but that one came after the amazing S1, so it was kind of a huge down-drop.) This time the leads were actually shown more, LOL, and well, some of the original cast charas got some ends (some fitting, some kind of lame). The only scene where there seemed to be some actual chemistry between charas was in ep5, when CHS and LEH meet again - there was a chance to turn it all around but it ended there...

The music was pretty bad this season, there's just one re-take on the Sweet Home theme and only in the later two eps or so. Overall, it gives me a feeling of - well, it ended. Now what?

TBH, I like the monster CHS better than weak hero CHS, LOL - he does have style, he said so himself :D

I guess I'll just rewatch S1 and pretend the other seasons don't exist.

I mean, you already have The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty in your PTW list...
Yes, all things considered (it IS a censored adaptation after all). The MC is cute as heck (and a glutton), and the ML is one cold, home from wars, soldier. And then there's the wicked Imperial Eunuch (he stole the show IMHO). There won't be too many PDAs, because - China - but it's clear enough what's going on LOL.

Does this pass the taste-test? :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icGyEwDdsYA (the others are TU, WOH and Guardian).

Or on its own? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3uDnvIY710

Yeah it's worth it :D

The story is all over the place. Good thing there aren't that many episodes left...
I can't believe the one I actually am growing to like is the cheating husband. There seems to be some genuine affection toward the wife he's cheating on, LOL, and he has some childhood trauma about cheating too, that's... interesting. I think he'll be a dark horse of the story - or at least I hope so. They might just go with the simple trope of over-jealous/possessive husband and leave it at that, but it still looks like there's something more.

The chairwoman is still way, WAY over the top. And just as I was going to give her AT LEAST the fact she does (ruthless) bussiness, it turns out that the money-washing mastermind is her lover?! That she also cheated on her husband with, while said husband was alive (and aware?!) That's lame.

And then the late chairman's words are what is tying the FL down to this dysfunctional family, because WHY? It doesn't make any sense.

The action in these two eps - and the spy-like stuff were a bit... I mean - Rain's chara gets blown up and cut up and whatnot and he's back at work in two days? And the one doing the attempts is his colleague the K1? Who put her up to this? Is it the husband?! Because WHY the heck? And then SDY goes and does M:I stuff in under one day or something to get the ledgers that are in shoe boxes, right by the door?? What the f was that?

Anyway... 4 more eps and this ends. So sad to say this - I really wanted more of Rain but I can't with the rest of it.

Can someone recommend similar dramas like this? I love this cute, cheerful-cold leads trope. Having to wait for…

Can you share your list? Hehe.
We should make a Wu XingZi fanclub :D I can't wait for the first official volume - pre-order says to expect it around October 1st, it's so loooooong LOL. But so well-worth it :D (Yeah nobody's going to even think to film THOSE scenes, LOL. But even so, the rest of it is still hilarious and amazing :))

I am stuck somewhere in the middle of DVAWTK, though I quite like it. It's just that my jam has always been rebirth-themed novels and I tend to jump to them whenever an interesting one comes up :D

You're welcome. Some of these are getting (or already got) official English TLs, but most are fan TL-ed - I'm in awe and always grateful to the TLers!! :)

Can you share your list? Hehe.
The short-list here, LOL, the long one is... long.

Wuxia/xianxia/xuanhuan:

1. Bring in the Wine (Qiang Jin Jiu by Tang JiuQing). This one is one of the very best stories and it's so damn HOT (not even apologetically hot, LOL, nope, they're madly in love and showing it for the audience :D)

2. Copper Coins (by Mu Su Li). It has dragons!! Well, one dragon. And he's a sassy shou. (I like sassy and dangerous little lizards, errr, dragons :D)

3. The Governor's Illness (by Yang Su) - because fated assassins and a world-class villain/hero who is wicked smart go together! (And it is kind of similar to MYATB, come to think, though IMHO the story is better - the gong doesn' t really WANT to fall in love, but it's unavoidable just because the shou is who he is).

4. How to Survive as a Villain (by Yi Yi Yi Yi). This one is so freaking cute and also has a lot of heartbreak... but so cute!

5. You've Got Mail! (though I am pretty sure nobody DARES to put that to drama, LOL, too much fetish hahaha~)

And for some extras - maybe SVSSS (because dammit, SQQ is so hot :D... but I don't trust them to find the right way to deal with it), Golden Stage (because the leads are so smart and can work together), Glory After Rebirth (because that opening scene is so amazing), The Obsessive Shou Moves On (because it's so eerie), and so many others! And obviously 2ha/hyx and TGCF live-action who are ALREADY filmed and just waiting on release but I am starting to fear we'll never see either of them T_T

Modern-times danmei (including ABO and other isekai stories):

1. Rebirth of a Movie Star (by J112233). This is my go-to modern-danmei comfort read. I recommend it to anyone - if you've never read any modern danmei, or did but missed this one - try it! It's so cute and wholesome and the ML is the best!

2. Sa Ye (by Wu Zhe): this is the perfect coming-to-age danmei. If anyone liked Addicted, this is (IMHO) 100 times better (as a TL and as a story).

3. Accidental Mark (by Die ZhiLing): this is ABO, and also a transmigration story - but the cutest. That would work so well in an adaptation, why didn't anyone pick it up already?

4. Little Madman's Guide to Acting Good (by Li WenJiu): this is the perfect rebirth+revenge plot, and they SAVE who they have to save (yes, Signal, I'm freaking looking at YOU, dammit).

5. The Missing Piece (by Kun Yi WeiLou): this one is kind of heavy (the ML has trauma-induced amnesia, the MC is enabling it because otherwise the ML would just let himself die) - because one needs a bit of dogblood (well, a lot of it) from time to time.

And then there's Seizing Dreams (already filmed, no chance of release too soon...) and Indulging in Wine (ABO, gangster-like cold ML) and First-Class Lawyer (scifi :D) and a lot more others I haven't gotten around to yet :D

... For starters, LOL.

is dashing youth a prequel to the blood of youth? which one should i watch first
Yes it's a prequel, but you can watch TBoY first, since it WAS here first, LOL. DY will retcon the story of the seniors in TBoY, but that one has different main characters and deals with different plots.
