I've been wondering the same thing. I cannot find the logic in this myself.
A tribulation or trial is what makes someone overcome an obstacle (or gain a higher rank).
For immortals, it could be battling through a specific hard level of cultivation and could happen at any time once they're gaining enough power. The highest cultivation is needed for attaining godhood and usually the tribulations include facing lightning or thunderstorms. It's because gaining immortality goes against the Heavens so you first have to suffer a lot to deserve it (and it's still against the laws of nature).
And it's not just the one time. There's this danmei story I really like where an ancient dragon has to go through a lightning tribulation once every thousand years or so, and he can even time it or delay it a bit because he's god-level powerful. He also always passes it, but it hurts LOL, so he doesn't like to have to go through it.
For those already in the Heavenly Realm (small-time gods or godesses) who still have to go through tribulations, it's usually to gain even higher power (Ming Ye would have had to go through them to become God of War in place of TH's father) or to be punished, sometimes. If they're sent to the mortal realm for one or ten lives' time it's usually a punishment but not always.
In LaR for example, SiFeng and XuanJi's fates are linked through 9 or 10 mortal lives and they count as tribulations for her to regain her powers as a goddess of war. There's a mortal life tribulation even for JinMi and XuFeng in AoL.
LSS has to go through tribulations because she's already half a phoenix goddess and has a high cultivation level. Always trying to get higher is the whole idea of cultivation. And in the end she needs to attain Nirvana and become powerful enough to take down Devil God all by herself. TTJ knows that only a goddess can bring DG down so he pushes her to face the final lightning tribulation alone (the whole 81 hits of it) and ascend.
It's a freaking national TV network. They have the most coverage area. Not putting down TK, but there is no reason to even compare any web-released drama (with a much restricted viewers pool) to a national network drama, they stand no chance whatsoever.
Given that, though, a quarter of the views of a CCTV drama is a hit for any web drama.
In Ep 39 when SS confronted TTJ and demanded an explanation and TTJ started to weave his web of lies…… his…
1. He's hot. (Okay that's not her motivation, but it makes sense LOL). She's influenced by MY's Bo'Re Life (SJ's actions). And she still has feelings for him. It might be just a final pity f*ck but she did care for him and was sorry to see him become DG. She wanted a moment out of time herself.
2. The best sex is angry sex.
3. The official idea was to slap the immortal sects' respective faces. She's their Yuling Deity, he's marrying her whether she wants to or not. It's supposed to provoke them into coming and helping to kill him, too.
XZ is not coming back, is he? He's a major star now, I guess they either wouldn't want him because they'd have…
No, YBY is in the novel, and pretty important for a side chara. But their return doesn't go that way and the cliffhanger has to be solved in some manner... right?
What a journey... Xianxia has been repetitive for quite a while, I really like this series! Especially the first…
LOL, I think TTJ decided to self-destruct so that he doesn't end up living CJM's tame life hahaha. He wants to be remembered for that laugh, for those eyes, the way those costumes are moving with him, and for the small little cruelties (remember him conducting the demon crows into scratching out everyone's eyes? :D)
For all those, though... I'd love to see a little bit more happiness for him.
Why is everyone translating this as a bad/sad ending?Although the drama ended prematurely and on a bittersweet…
A lot of people watching are used to happy endings. And TBH, TTJ deserved one. But the ending we did get is also earned (I STILL remember that just a few eps ago I was clamouring for him to become DG and destroy everything LOL).
This is xianxia. Dogblood stories are the norm, This one though - this one delivered massively.
I mean, I can't be the only one remembering the SCALE of everything? From battles (each and every one was a whole war on itself, I loved those fights!!!), to sets, to costumes, to epic music, to ACTING.
I mean, I was bawling for a few hours straight after ep 39 got on road and we ALL knew what he was doing and she still didn't realize it. To do away with the cursed fate and the DG, there was no other way. A fast manufactured HE would have spoiled the last eps, IMHO.
But it's not closed and done, either, so that very faint hope is what remains in the end.

LSS is half phoenix, half demon (from DM). She was incubated for more than ten thousand years herself before hatching. Her daughter is part phoenix, so she's also been hatched, probably. It takes a while. Hatching so early might have something to do with LSS and TTJ's powers combining to make it shorter. Or it might have to do with the fact she's not full phoenix.
Cultivators stop aging when they reach a certain level of cultivation. Immortals have cultivated into immortality (they usually don't look as young, though, immortality takes a while and some tribulations).
Found some of it on Youtube music in this playlist. Has both OST and some instrumentals https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_m9qog-bexlfqsa7VPr1zxY4gBztlYM098&feature=share
Supposedly there's a time split between seasons too, not just the length. So if you got S1 you'd wait a few months…
I only watched them when complete, long after the comment sections were alive LOL. With TTEOTM I couldn't help myself - I just wanted to see LYX for a bit, and then the end of ep 1 came and I clicked the next... and so on.
I'm just curious, couldn't they split drama into two 28-episode parts and not condense it? I heard each part can't…
Supposedly there's a time split between seasons too, not just the length. So if you got S1 you'd wait a few months (maybe half a year) for S2. There were outcries for a four-day wait with the original schedule, can you imagine what six months would have done?! :)
Happy news for broken hearts like me 😊😁This is really an awesome year :) TTOTM broke my heart JOL S02 will…
XZ is not coming back, is he? He's a major star now, I guess they either wouldn't want him because they'd have to deal with the madness, or fans would expect a modified plot to give him more to do) or he wouldn't accept (maybe for the same reasons...)

They're a bit awkward and it's allowed :D

4. She didn't. She's playing for time.
And then he raised those murderous eyes at YXW and I was gone.
For all those, though... I'd love to see a little bit more happiness for him.

But I really really want the new ones from the last two eps. I haven't heard those yet, I think...

It was on CCTV too, no webdrama can compete. And it does have Zhang Yi (he was the ML in Be Reborn, I liked him :) )
I wouldn't have had the patience to wait it out.
