Myself, I like it he did it all for his own reasons and for her alone. Maybe for Zhaoyou Shifu too. But not for the idiots in the sects or for the demons either. The humans, eh, I can take it or leave it.
But in the end, he did it just because it was the right and only thing to do to end it all - his pain, the destruction, the freaking wars.

No, MN gets to fly off with XL's replacement. She's not happy (cause now she loves XL, but he's long gone), he's not happy probably (he's unconscious at the time, nobody cared what happened to him afterwards, not even the editors LOL). So there's no guaranteed HE for them. They just... flew off.

...Not to mention that he DID kill his master (with good reason, but a death is a death), as DG he couldn't stop the All-In-Distress-Way until he self-destroyed but the AIDW still made victims, and he did provoke the sects and fought them off to start LSS's ascent to godhood and the sacrifice). It's not like he was pure as driven snow despite his motivations.
And we don't know if LSS isn't spending her life going around telling his story.
I don't need a deus-ex-machina ending to have a 5 seconds HE. If they want to make it, let's put it in a special ep, it won't kill them. Other dramas did already. They have plenty of examples.
Though TBH I don't mind this ending. But I won't ever say no to more.

Is there news of actual special eps? I don't mind if they're about 5 mins each as long as it's new content. Somebody will definitely do DG's work and re-edit the final ep to include them LOL if there really are some additions to change the tone :)
He got a Bo'Re Life sweet moment with her. They made a child together. He got to end his suffering (let's face it, he was cursed, and if ADG and his power weren't destroyed, everything they both prized would have been destroyed instead. There was no other way).
They got to clear up the misunderstanding - her realizing what he's doing was the best, I almost feared she was going to learn after he was gone forever.
And the best part is - he wasn't really a god, since he just absorbed the power of ADG and didn't become DG himself. So there is a chance of a rebirth after he goes through the hells. Or maybe there's another way to revive him. Hope dies last.
One thing (out of many things) that bothers me with all the cuts and could have beens...... what was LSS's phoenix…
She put a leash on him. You never know where these Devil God wannabes end up after they self-sacrifice. She wasn't going to go acid-burn herself in the Nether River like SOMEONE who can't plan ahead, she just wanted to know where to go wait for him by the river's bank LOL.

LSS is a phoenix though, and he's using god powers at the time, so they can make something out of dreaming too. Nah, he had his sweet moment in time (and about the only one time he was willing and she was, too, and they were both not intoxicated or forcing the other in any way LOL.)

All the arcs of TTEOTM made sense and the end is fitting. I won't compare with other dramas, but I really checked out in the final arc of LaR, after the damned mushroom got eaten.

TTJ destroys himself after placing the Heart-Protecting Scale on LSS and pushing her away. Most of the power is deflected, but she's thrown to the earth anyway. She ends up in the Jing tomb where now both memorial plaques are written - at first, it was only Ye XiWu's, but now TTJ's is written too.
He wrote it at the end of the night in Bo'Re Life, where, when LSS was still asleep, he told her he would do one last thing in this moment, that will be cruel to her but has to be done. Then he goes to the tomb, writes the plaque for himself (after changing into his CJM outfit because he wanted to be his best self, not the Devil God), dreams of a fantasy YXW/LSS who never thought he was evil and always believed in him and loved him for himself (she's clearly not real), then goes back and takes LSS to the Devil Palace to get married.
That last thing, about him writing his memorial, is shown in flashback as it wasn't disclosed until after he died.
I expect this drama "BFTB" to fall hard bc many see "the timing" is a provocation and a diversion tactic.
I just finished the first episode, and TBH it's definitely not my cup of tea. I don't like much of the sets, there's nothing much of the story (but that's a norm for most, so I'm not holding it against them), there were way too many villains with no actual motivations to be evil, lots of noticeable green screen and so on and so forth. There's the smallest vibe of The Legends in it, too. I am not enticed to watch the second episode.
I've no idea what Youku heads are thinking, releasing this so close to TTEOTM, that just got done raising standards to impossible levels. Maybe they wanted it to take the heat for the ending of TTEOTM?
And the opening - with the drawn art and everything just serves to dig the point deeper.
I need something else. Maybe a novel, or a new drama - but not so soon, and not the same genre. Oh well, my Watching list is quite long already anyway...
