I've stated my opinion on this a day or two ago defending GSJ as a character and his reasoning and right to be upset. He's deserving of SW position. Yes he "lacks heart" but who says he can't learn to be compassionate later. We see how righteous and fair he can be when it comes to his family's wellbeing.
