I personally think the FLs cutesy act is way too exaggerated to the point it genuinely starts rubbing you in the…
more than just the voice, she does a lot of childish expressions in this. she is constantly pouting and batting her eyelids like a toddler about to throw a tantrum.
After first two episodes I was kind of expecting a big character development, but then around half way through…
Same here! I was scrolling on reddit after the first two episodes and I kept getting responses about "there will be character development, wait and watch". I didn't get character development in terms of their motivations and purpose, just in terms of their skills. And I agree, once you leave expectations of the main 4 turning into upstanding ideal lead characters, you enjoy the drama more.
Just finished the drama and while I enjoyed it enough to watch all 12 episodes, I have two main problems which is keeping me from saying I loved the drama. (1) The actual motivation and lack of apathy of main character does not change at all even after 12 episodes of "character growth". Overall the main 4 have grown in skills both interpersonal and medical, so they grow to be better doctors but dont change as people. (2) The drama literally spoon feeds us emotions at times. Some situations are over the top and so predictable and it feels the drama is telling the audience how to feel rather than telling a story and letting us feel and interpret it.
There are some great actors amongst the supporting cast though , so it is worth a watch.
I LOVED the title of your review! I've been telling my friends that I loved the side characters and mentors in this drama way more than the main 4, and the side stuff is what held my interest. Your title is a perfect way to put it.
Love medical dramas in general but this one especially cuz Iām also in the OBGYN speciality. I loved the pace…
I know many dramas aren't realistic as far as any profession goes, but how realistic would you say RP is from your experience. Are first year residents truly as inexperienced? some scenes had me scratching my head... OIY not knowing what to do with the cut off piece of surgical thread, OIY not knowing how to help the pregnant womens constipation in non medicated way, UJI thinking the patient had cracked skull because of runny nose, KSB freaking out over the bleeding although vitals were normal...and so many more! To me, a completely inexperienced person not related to medicine, these all felt like basic things someone should know by the time they have finished years of med school and internships.
It was really good I don't know why people kept saying it hasn't same vibe as Hospital Playlist and Prison Playbook…
To me, Hospital Playlist and Prison Playbook has the established relationships with mature people. whereas Resident Playbook is a bunch of young (at times immature) people who dont know each other when the drama starts. HP's established friend circle and banter had more emotional depth. Also in HP and PP, the leads are motivated to do good whereas in RP, many of the leads are motivated by money or ego.
The FL's character is someone who is doing the residency only for money to pay off a debt. she is apathetic and seems uninterested for the most part but grows as a doctor during the show. Despite being skilled, she is still purely motivated by self interest and would have quit the job if not for the money.
You have perfectly captured what I felt about the drama. Your review has also helped me reframe how I thought of the drama. I truly enjoyed it as well but was left extremely frustrated by how the main 4 hadn't changed as people (although they clearly grew and really improved their skills). As you said - they are still the same people with the same motivation (or lack of motivation). But when framed as a slice of life drama and especially with the comparison of catching up with a friend..it seems like a palatable drama. I went in expecting character growth but got some entertainment, which is good and the whole point of dramas I suppose.
she surely is more emotional than she should be considering that she has a good home life- only child raised by…
I think the ex BF was a very bad person. He was emotionally abusive really. He called her selfish for wanting something out of the relationship (support, time from him). He called her selfish for wanting to study further instead of discussing it, although he has been traveling and not in the country either. I hate to be armchair psychiatrist, but I do think what he did to her fits the definition of gaslighting. He beat her down so much emotionally and made her believe she truly was the problem in the relationship because she later is crying saying it is all her fault. When in reality he is selfish because he ignored her when he wanted and pushed back into her life on his own terms when it worked for him. If anything didn't go his way, he blamed it on her saying it was difficult to be in a relationship with her, without taking any accountability for his own actions and the fact that he essentially ignores her until it suits him to show up (emotionally, not physically)
This female lead is so immature for 27 years old, she has me siding with her ex š
Genuinely curious - what mannerisms or actions by FL makes her seem immature? I have probably watched too many cdramas with infantile FLs, so this FL didn't seem too bad.
I'm on ep7, I thought he KNOWS she has broken up with her BF before. but this ep showed he doesn't know and even…
it did make me feel iffy as well, but if you look at it objectively, he never "makes a move" on her. it becomes more obvious once he finds out the truth.. he gets pushier. When he doesn't know but she has broken up, she is the one who gets way more friendlier and free with him. yes, he spends a lot of time with her, yes he opens up to her, yes he hugs her when he is depressed. but, technically that is something good friends of opposite genders do anyways..you can see he is trying hard to hold himself back romantically. Having unrequited feelings for a friend doesn't always mean cutting contact with said friend.
On viki, it's 1 day delay, it's airing saturday-sunday and not friday-saturday
I saw ep3 last Friday, and not Saturday. I saw it late at night, but still it was Friday night. Now I wonder did I watch it after midnight and so Viki released it midnight on Saturday?
With this one at least it is a romcom with a spy plot. Not a spy comedy with some romance. I'd have to double…
I agree. All the trailers, interviews, social media posts, etc focus on the couple and the male/female lead actors. not on the plot or other characters. It is indeed being marketed as a rom com with a side plot of mystery.
Of course, another Disney show you can't watch legally.
ššš I thought it was just me suffering right now. so so so upset because I thought it was a Disney+ original and we would get it in the US right away.
Last 3 espisodes are unwatchable. If it had ended on 13 it would have been a 8.5
I agree!! I was wondering why this drama didn't have more hype. sure, it's a simple story but it's a standard work romance with charm and a great food background. then it all went downhill.
so I was like the other commenter - couldn't get into it but I am a fan of Lee Joongi and my friends raved about the show. I watched it gradually..an episode here and there between other shows. it truly is an amazing show. you just need some patience if (like me) you prefer rom coms.
I do understand the drama, but I didn't like it for two main reasons.
One, pacing is completely off. They rushed through some back story which would have helped us know more about the characters and their motivation but spend way too much time in others. The toe bandaging scene was so long but you could say it was used to establish chemistry. But the fruit fly mating scene? To me the scene had no use other than showing us that the leads have no respect for others time and established time protocols.
Two, I rarely enjoy dramas with cheating story lines. If it's a drama with a different main purpose and cheating is part of a character's flaw, I can appreciate the story. But here, I don't see why the two leads had to be cheaters. What is the purpose of this character flaw and why should we as audiences root for this romance? I personally was not at all rooting for the romance and could not bring myself to enjoy the chemistry between the two excellent actors.
So there. People can have reasons for not liking something (liking a drama is so subjective) and their intellectual levels have nothing to do with their preferences.
