Yeah they did try and show this. But they spent almost two episodes covering it and focused more on the grief than the instigators, which I didn't think was necessary. There were many scenes here which I thought dragged it out and could have been cut.

Of course, every person is different and I've mentioned before in another comment, peoples minds work in mysterious ways. However, for Mengmeng, the fact that there was a bus stop and she didn't get off, instead wanted to get off in the middle of the bridge, is what doesn't seem logical to me. Sure, it could have been a delayed response because of how she reacts, but then it isn't so easy for me as the viewer to empathize with her because I feel majority of people won't respond like that, which then makes it less convincing to me. I definitely agree they should have shown how the parents came to this, I just felt like it was too drawn out with a lot of repeated grief episodes. They could have just showed us one and then the turning points because I think majority of people can empathize with parents losing their child, no need to show us so many times. Whereas in Mengmengs case, it goes against logic for me. Just like how they felt they needed to show us how the parents became crazy because people don't just suddenly become so, I felt they needed to show us why Mengmeng did not get off at the bus stop and instead wanted to get off in the middle of the bridge, because people also don't suddenly just want to do so.

Lol, thank you for your thoughtfulness in your comments. While I am always happy when series do more than just entertain and bring more serious issues to light, I think that it is a bonus aspect and should not hinder on a dramas entertainment value. I also think that if the issues that you mentioned are the ones they want to zoom in on, then it should be executed in a way that it informs without losing the entertaining aspect. I should also be able to see this in the drama without external explanations, otherwise that message delivery clearly failed. Point is, I'm going to rate a drama based on its completeness, entertainment value, ability to keep me interested, pacing, character development/likability, storyline, etc. I feel this drama lost momentum in episode 13-14 and motivation of some actions of the characters were not so convincing (Mengmeng), which in turn makes the storyline weaker. This is an important aspect for me; motivation of plot and convincing story arcs are what separates great dramas from good ones for me, hence my rating.

I believe there are people like that out there, peoples minds work in mysterious ways but I agree, it's a turn off. I particularly don't like watching unlikable characters.

I think the episodes where they fleshed out the parents story were too long. They didn't show her normal life when her daughter was alive and before she went crazy, mostly showed the aftermath of her daughters death, but they showed too many repeats of her grief and blame which I didn't think was necessary. Also, showing repeats of her grief did not help me see how she went crazy, I already know she's grieving and it didn't really help move the story forward in my opinion, I could have skipped most of that episode and still understand the story. I would have liked to see more of why their daughter wanted to get off the bus on that bridge because this didn't make sense to me. She didn't get off when their was a bus stop, where her classmate managed to get off but went frantic wanting to go off while they were on the bridge? There's no reasonable explanation for me here. To your point about slowing down the pace, I don't think slowing down the pace for the sake of slowing down the pace helps me in any way as a viewer, it just makes me feel the episodes are draggy and I want to fast forward.

Just finished this drama, I think it's a good show but not as good as the 8.8 rating. It's about an 8 for me. Episode 14 most boring and unnecessary in my opinion.

I've watched up to ep 23 so far and I'm quite annoyed with the rating, I don't think it's not worthy of this high of a rating, coz some of the storylines are just using the same old tactics to bring strife to the drama.

The first half I really enjoyed, the second half I found it to be a bit inconsistent to the first half but still fast paced so still good to watch. The ending I liked.

I really enjoyed this drama, a rewatch for me.

I didn't know anything about this story (I never read synopsis because I don't like any spoilers) and I've been enjoying it thus far. And I was shocked when Bai Ying died, didn't know how the story would unfold so my sentiments are different to those who thought it was boring until she died. Interesting perspectives!

Lol I'm quite enjoying it, maybe because I don't usually watch such dramas.

I really liked this FL from Ashes of Love, glad to see her in a main role. So far I'm enjoying it even though quite a few scenes were so cliche lol

After reading recent comments, I'm glad I've decided to drop this drama. Tired of the inconsistency between characters and story from the writer.
