Seeing Jing dying holding Xiao Yao in his arms made me feel bad for how his own family, including his Grandmother, schemed against him later on to get him married with that witch. But Xiang Liu also gave up a life trying to safe Xiao Yao, and he did so much more for her without letting her know. He became a better person for her, while Jing only feels better because of Xiao Yao. Cang Xuan said everything he did was to protect Xiao Yao, but seems like power doesn't do him good in Season 2. I just wish they didn't kill Xiang Liu; he deserves so much better. Now I'm devastated.
Female characters seems no social experience at all, especially Xiaoxue
She annoyed me so much; it's one thing she could be naive because she grew up in a village but that does not explain her lack of human decency. And what about Jingyi, she studied in the US and is still naive.
Great acting, good story, just because they aren't young and hot does not mean it's not worth watching, ladies. That is the most interesting part. Every episode started with a memory from their youth. How every step affected their life later on in life and how they managed and continued with resilience and friendship.
Not the usual costume drama from Sun Li or Luo Jin, but what a captivating story! I started watching it to pass time but couldn't stop. It's funny and portrays the reality of how working life is in their culture. Makes one think and be more compassionate towards others.
I like the sweet happy ending, and the romantic lovey-dovey scenes from Aranya’s Dream. It is a feel good story I’ll be rewatching. It’s a shame they wasted so much airtime on unnecessary (repetition of) drama at the end. It would have been nice to have a longer family reunion scene. And where are all the other powerful Gods, it’s not like they cannot come back from “holidays” in a flash of light.
