It's an easy, fast read and pretty engaging throughout the whole story. I'm sure the drama will alter parts and some of the characters (the second female lead is classic super annoying and not too dimensional in the novel). The male lead can come off as a bit of a jerk in the novel, but he's a gray, smart and complicated person. Female lead is also not simple and is smart. Some may say their relationship is toxic (it's definitely not my favorite nor the healthiest), but they both know what they are doing. Again, the drama will likely be a bit different, but I think judging from certain interviews and BTS clips, I think the basic storyline will be followed.
i love seven tan soo much but i dont think she's the right actress for this role. idk but i feel something is…
For me, it’s more the character set up (not only for her but also the male lead). There’s nothing necessarily wrong, but it’s a pretty common (and for me a bit bland) type of character for both, and 14 or so episodes in I don’t really see much of a story for either of them. Yet. Maybe there’s a surprise, I’ll wait and see.
The weird emperor and the Dream Shard Immortal seem like stock characters too so far, but again, I will wait and see if the story can pick up by mid way point. I think Bingzhu’s character so far has been the most interesting (for me at least).
is this another give up the throne for love plot ?
Nope, quite the opposite. ML is a prince that’s been fallen from grace and bides his time. He eventually makes his move and takes back what is his. FL’s family is wrongfully killed, and hers is a revenge story. Their stories are intertwined as they join forces, but theirs is a love hate relationship that grows over time. But we’ll see how the drama takes the story.
4 or so episodes in, it's a pretty standard xianxia set up in terms of world building, plot and characters, but maybe it'll get more interesting as it goes along. I think Wang Duo's character so far intrigues me the most and has potential to develop in an interesting way.
Yeah, it’s hard to review because there were moments of greatness and then (for me) also of dullness
Yeah, there's a lot smooshed into 28 episodes. And a lot is told out of order (with flashbacks, etc), which sometimes can be cool, and sometimes it's just too confusing and gimmicky. I think more time to flesh out characters to make them more 3D and to develop themes more would have moved me more in the second half of the show especially.
Don't attack me but this last arc with the Tiemo people was such a drag to get through. I didn't enjoy it at all.…
My thoughts as well. I've been mulling on this all day, and I think I've come to the conclusion that this show had actually 2 stories merged into 1, and I'm not sure they really gelled together enough for me. This really could have used 2 seasons or parts to allow both storylines to shine (the first being the Huben/YFS revenge arc and the second this Tiemo arc). But that's just me.
