I'm on ep 12 and oh dear lord the fl's mother is insufferable and the fl is just enabling her. Bundaries, depending…
I've just made it to ep 12 as well and the FL's mother is exhausting to watch. Jialing's family humiliated them so many times and she STILL wants her daughter to marry into that awful family 🤦🏻♀️
So excited for this drama. Dou Xiao (Shawn Dou) hasn't been in anything good the last couple of years. Hopefully this drama will thrust him into the limelight again. For me, his best role is Yan Xun from Princess Agents.
This was filmed back in 2021 and is now just released. Drama has 48 episodes but with the new rules of shows being capped at 40, I believe they decided to break it up into season 1 & 2 instead of cutting out more scenes.
I just watched episode 35. I'm almost done with this flop, thank goodness.Shang Yi Zhi has got to be the worst…
Agreed! I can't think of any C costume drama where the ML was so inept and unlikeable. From Ep 1 to when he succeeded the throne, he could not think for himself. Everyone guided him there. I thought he was going to grow into his own but he never did. I don't know if it's bad editing but it seems choppy where his character went from good to bad almost overnight. This was the first time I couldn't connect with the ML. I can accept the ending because their relationship was irreconcilable after what he did to Tang Shaoyi.
Feel like there needs to a be drastic/traumatic incident for him to actually change
Right. That seems to be the formula in C drama where the characters always start out naive and immature then they grow through hard adversities. What I don't understand is, his adopted parents always knew he was a target of the Emperor's wrath but never told him about it. Instead, they gave him a very sheltered, carefree life where he becomes the way he is...oblivious and dumb. lol. Despite all this, it's still a fun watch.
I am reading a novel... and really can't understand why screenwriters couldn't follow up the original plot! The…
Thanks for sharing from the book. It sounds more interesting than the drama. If they stayed true to the book regarding A'Mai's first encounter with Chang Yu Qing, how hilarious would that be!
Why did they make the ML so silly? He's not the sharpest tool in the shed 😂 I'm only on ep 9, so hopefully there's more character development. I wasn't sure what to expect going in to this but it's quite enjoyable so far. The FL is too pretty to pass for a male.
is this HE? also whats the connect between this nd sword nd fairy ?
The two Sword and Fairy are from the Chinese Paladin series (there are 6 total, but the 2nd series was never made). Each one is a stand alone story. This one is Sword and Fairy 4. The one with Xu Kai and Esther Yu is Sword and Fairy 6. I was satisfied with the ending (don't want to spoil it for you).
I was just coming here to say the same thing! I think his agency either changed his DOB to younger than his real age or MDL got it wrong. He looks at least 55. lol
I think this drama is permanently shelved due to both of the main leads' scandals. Fan Bing Bing with tax evasion and the male lead, Gavin Gao was accused of rape. His ordeal/trial lasted 2 years. He was found not guilty but his career took a huge hit, obviously. Looks like they've already removed his name from any association with this project. His ex wife is still active, Xuan Dong.
Yes they did, Bai Jue is Di Juan while Shang Gu is Yi He.
This makes sense. I've just started The Last Immortal and was so confused as to why Gu Jin's name has no correlation with his parents. I thought maybe his name was adopted from Gu Jun's. lol

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it. I previously asked a simple question hoping someone who has either finished or who are farther into the episodes could share more info to persuade me to push through but only to be met with a rabid response from a super fan, apparently 😂 It's amazing how some can get so riled up over entertainment. lol

I'm asking because sometimes a show starts out badly but gets better. If you can't be nice, why bother answering at all and rudely at that? I don't believe I asked YOU directly.

I'm still stuck on ep 4. Put it on hold to rewatch Joy of Life. I feel like 2023 is a flat year for Xu Kai, whom I love as an actor. His dramas this year are all "meh". I'm also not too fond of Jing Tian. Nothing bad about her but I can't see her as a female lead. I can't get into their love story and plot seems boring. Is it worth continuing?
