Her & her husband are professional politics schemers. ZL is a spring chicken next to them and no wonder it took years of preparation for ZL to uproot this Yu family in the novel. ZL only managed to do so only towards the end of the novel.

My thoughts exactly. ZL could even understand why FTY is upset with him, walked right in Miss Wu’s aunt trap. He definitely needs FTY’s help.

Yes, FTY told her that she understands that she is just a pawn to her aunt but she will not share her man with any woman and if she knows her reputation she could try all her scheming against her. Miss Wu understands and wants to be free from her aunt’s shackles. It’s Madame Yu’s schemes that worry me more as she has found out that her boy is in love with FTY. The Fu and Yu family are evil.

If I am not mistaken, Mo Yi really loves ZL & FTY’s eldest daughter like his own & would have loved that his eldest son marries her.

Do you mean the chastity arch? My understanding is that during the Ming dynasty, young women that become widow are sometimes sacrificed by their families to remain unmarried ( I.e remain chaste). With that, these families would receive financial benefits from the emperor such as tax exemptions, giving their families name a good status & emperor would allow them to build these arches on their land. You could see in the drama that Madame Zuo was used by the grandma Fu to remain chaste in exchange of money but she just suffered loneliness, hardship.

In the novel, papa Yu was convicted of corruption in the sale of horses so he was stripped of his title and exiled as a commoner but died on his way there. YJX was convicted of having an affair with a married woman and for having been involved in the murder of her husband. Given that YJX has killed someone, he should have been executed. However, ZL asked the emperor to let YJX stay alive, stripped of all titles & exiled as a commoner. One of ZL’s subordinate asked ZL the reason why he intervened instead of executing him, ZL responded that YJX would suffer even more being alive with nothing ( his family has fallen as well) left.
