Novel Ending was sad. But the drama is not following the novel exactly. Things are changed. But because its Republican genre and has Lament in the title, there is a chance.

The good thing about the drama is FL's character is changed, she is not submissive, so I believe she will not take shit be it from ML or from SML. She will fight back.

This is not the first time I have seen couple on horse scene being cut or changed. Happened in POJ, the reuter was way better, but the actors had to change their positions and re-film, when the previous one was clearly better. In The Double, the leads had a scene of them sitting on the horse together, but it was cut. Does China censorship have something with horses and couples on them.

The horse sequence had potential too, but they cut off 80% of that scenes. The Reuters were so beautiful.

Okay I really really liked this episode. Him giving the contract back, and being shamelessly asking for tea and lunch, those scenes were really nice. Only if things could stay like this. SFL's scene with ML made me nauseous. She still doesn't understand he is using her. Girl open your eyes. At least he got what he wanted, and the necklace is ugly, suits her though.

Episode 5. Thoughts

It seems YCX's father concubine is betraying them.

I love they are setting up the political angle properly now. Though all the initial trailers had the couple scenes, the cast filmed war, battle politics sequences a lot, so that's interesting to see. I like the storytelling, and the fact that I can clearly see almost everyone's motives.

100% I agree to you. But that's a misogyny issue, sadly yes that is present, just not here, everywhere. People hate complicated women but complicated men aren't that much hated.
But then its also true that a FL can slap a ML easily for minor things in a fight, and she won't be called out, but if a ML even screams at FL, he will be trashed.
The thing is people try to see them inside the story, allot themselves characters and try to see the story from the POV of FL or ML. Its better we see everything from a third perspective as an audience, in order to make a correct judgement. At the end of the day, its just fiction, and we are here if it entertains us.
But again in no way, at least I would ever do romanticization of abuse. Forced love, forced kisses, forced anything disgust me, even if the character is played by my favourite actor. But again I am willing to see a proper character development.

No its not. I don't want to say certain things because that would be spoilers. But its not like that ML will force FL, and she will relent to him and accept that. She will fight back. SML was hated from the very first, because he did things from the very first. Though because I was a novel reader for POJ, his character better explained there, so I could excuse everything, except the forced love thing. He also tried killing his own son, he was completely a trash character since the beginning.
ML here is a manipulative cunning person. He has his motives, but till now he has not been violent (till ep 4, I have watched), and we can say its a grey complicated character. Because the trailer has some stuff, we know that is upcoming, and most of us would hate on his character. I don't like his arrogant ass even now. But I am willing to give a chance to see if there is any satisfactory character development.
Yes just like you said, we can enjoy things because its fiction, but we can also enjoy and give our opinions. Like I loved POJ, I saw all scenes of Deng Kai there, loved his acting, but still criticized the character traits, I will do it here as well.
