One of the solid dramas with similar vibe to HBO or History channels in terms of production value. It is also did not include many Japanese pop cultural references, therefore it is easy to be watched by everyone.

This is one of dramas I watched on TV but did not download to watch it again and therefore don't list it here on MDL....I totally agree with you that Shomuni was kind of non-conservative in that era alongside GTO and the gang...as a male viewer I did not find the girl power theme bothering me because they have realistic points on that matter, unlike some new-age female empowerment dramas we see nowadays.
This is okay with a bit touch of human drama however the episodic cases were so-so. If you binge watch this, you will get tired after couple of episodes. That's why other medical dramas tend to have exaggerated lead characters to compensate for the already boring hospital workplace theme.
This is more like a tourism video instead of a movie...they tried to include 3 classes i.e. merchant, artisan and samurai in 1 story...but that's it...the plot didn't matter...it's like watching a cultural show...it has that old "Rikyu" film vibe though in the sense of showing the craftsmanship.
I wish they focus more on the steel making...how the protagonist finally mastered the craft...instead of riding on Nobunaga, Hideyoshi and Ieyasu names...the samurai showcase was overboard too with all the "war protective gears" but still failed to portray the true spirit of samurai i.e. the master and underlines...because Amago Shinnosuke (Akira's character) was portrayed as a lone ranger instead of heir of a Clan...
This one came from the same writer of Atsuhime, therefore the influence was obvious. However the writer forgot that these 2 groups of people lived in 2 different eras, so they shouldn't have similar mindset...Apart from that I feel bad for the weak character writing of Ishida Mitsunari...LoL

Any streaming sites have it...but usually they put together S1, SP and S2 in one place under Anata no Ban title... In KissAsian for example, they put it before episode 1 of S1...they messed up with order...
Much better than expected...usually you would expect strong heroic character like Doctor X with a poster like this, but thank God it is not...Hirose Alice character is a comic relief (usually given to male actors in other dramas).....i don't know how it was associated with sexist (by some commenters) and in my opinion she did her job well...
And what i like the most about Top Knife is realistic character writing...the writer didn't make everyone else less-excellent just to make the main hero looks good....the medical cases featured in the drama however were the rare types...which makes it a bit unrealistic to occurred in just one particular hospital...but yeah it's good to learned something new anyway...
What a letdown...not sure how the manga is, but the writing really needs more work on it...too many plotholes and lack of logic in terms of human action and thinking...if not for the actors this drama is a flop...still watchable though and it creates enough curiosity for you to know what happen next...but yeah still far from any other time-slip dramas
If you have watched the series, you will know the story already...but the new writing is nicely done in my opinion with more stories on what happened in the past..
However, few minutes into the movie was kind of rushed and skippy...especially during the first meeting of Shioriko and Daisuke...after that the pace was slow but just right for the theme. The climax of the movie was at the right time, so you would get that satisfaction despite the slow beginning.
Nice scenery and Southern All Stars song at the end wrapped up the movie nicely.

Overall this is an okay drama but it lacks the power to generate curiosity, so after one episode viewers wouldn't care to watch the next...usually fine for movie because you would just sit for 2 hours then done...for series, you need that damn cliffhanger otherwise people don't bother to continue...

I think misandric was a bit too much, but yeah I agree the writing was going into that direction but they did try to make it as diplomatic as possible....nonetheless it was full of feminism dream that don't even realistic but you can't say it out loud otherwise you will be labeled as sexist...haha
For the justice of the writer, FL didn't sleep around with men though...she chose men with good genes and ask their permission to have the baby....which sounded diplomatic and fair but at the same time you know what that was...if she's rich enough she could just have some sperm from the bank and wouldn't even need to do sex...LoL
There was even more MEH writing than that though especially towards the end where Eriko's son said he was happy even if he live with single mom without even think of the needs of having a father...which in my opinion cheesy and too dream-like statement...
