And in relation to this: "This revelation was deeply humiliating for SH. His background could no longer compare to his brother’s, and regardless of what happened to SM, the title of heir would never be his." --> that's also one reason why his power-hungry side surfaced and he wanted to win over SM at almost any cost (just almost, since he still has some soft spot for Miao An Su), just to prove he could be better than him.

If you like detective/investigative series in a historical setting, with romance as a secondary aspect, then try "Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty 1 & 2", "Judge Dee's Mystery".

If you're open to Republican era spy drama, then try "Deep Lurk".

Just finished this drama. The ending is great! I like how they wrap things up. There is amazing chemistry between Li Yun Rui and Meng Zi Yi, the cast in general portrayed their characters well, and the premise and storyline are interesting. Aside from some parts in the early 20+ episode that I think could have been shortened (mainly related to the stepmom), this is a great watch overall, and one that I would highly recommend.

For variety shows, try "Hello, Saturday" (also known as Hi! 6).

Just finished episode 19, so I'm now past the halfway point. The last few episodes had been great! I like the development of Song Mo and Dou Zhao's relationship. I'm looking forward to the next chapter of their story as well as the other story arcs. And I just wanna add, "hurrah!" to Princess Shu De.

I haven't watched TSOPG, so thanks for your thoughtful review of it. Agree with PeachBlossomGoddess, try "Blossom". I've watched 10 episodes, and the pacing and story build-up are good, plus the leads have great chemistry.

I'm 10 episodes in, the pacing is good and the story gets more exciting with each episode. Li Yun Rui ( as Song Mo) and Meng Zi Yi (as Dou Zhao) have great chemistry! Wang Ying Xue (Step Mom) is infuriating while Dou Shi Shu (5th Uncle) is very annoying. They make my blood boil.

In the scene where Dou Zhao and Song Mo are negotiating on a way forward in Dou Zhao's farm/manor (both of them surrounded by their followers), I find it amusing that the baby's cry effectively broke the tension in the room 😂.

I also like how smart Dou Zhao is, how she shared her strategy to Song Mo. She showed a brave front in that situation, although she felt fear deep inside too.

I just finished episode 5, the story's getting more interesting 🙂. There is a scene I find amusing, and I have other comments as well.

I see many people raving about this drama, so I started it tonight. I didn't intend to renew my WeTV VIP subscription so soon after it expired more than a week ago, but I ended up renewing it 😄.

There was an attempted rape scene (not explicit) but not with the FL.

Shao Yao is also one of my favorite characters. Lu Gu Xiao's portrayal is awesome. It's so different from her character in My Journey to You.
