The story is set in the fictional Da Qing (大庆) dynasty (different from the historical Manchu Qing dynasty). But it's possibly patterned after the Song dynasty.
I finished this drama today. The ending does not disappoint! Generally, the cast portrayed their characters quite well, with some more impressive than others. I like the leads, but Shao Yao, Shen Huan, and the 3rd Aunt are some of my favorites! Overall, it's a very good drama and a satisfying watch for me.
27 episodes in, and this drama just keeps getting better! So far, there are no filler episodes. At this point, I've laughed and cried with the characters for a number of times already. I'm looking forward to a strong finish for this one.
I enjoyed this drama too! One of the best spy dramas that I've watched 👍. You captured the main points well in your review. I too did a lot of rewinding and pausing in the first 3 episodes to make sure I get the names and details right (and even in some of the succeeding episodes). For me, however, aside from the brilliant plot, suspense and the interesting characters, I also like the chemistry between Cheng Yi and Ying Er. Their characters' romance is secondary in the story but I like that they put it in 🙂. And you're right, they did cut out many of their scenes, because there were some scenes in the ending credits that were not shown.
I've watched until episode 17 of this drama, and it's really good, I'm enjoying it! Now I understand why it has a high rating and is well-received by audiences. I'm looking forward to the next episodes!
I just finished this one, and it's a really good Republican era espionage drama! I like the plot, the mystery and the excitement. All the main and supporting cast portrayed their characters really well. And I love the chemistry between Cheng Yi and Ying Er. There were some scenes in the ending trailer/closing credits that I was waiting for, but I didn't see them in the drama, so it's obvious they cut some scenes, hence, the ending feels a little rushed. But they still wrap up the story and did not leave the main plot hanging. So I would gladly recommend this, especially if you like spy dramas!
Great character descriptions! I watched the first episode a long time ago and didn't go back for some reason.…
Thanks for reading my review! I'm trying to recall, but I don't think she ever really dressed in a very feminine manner, but more of the "rugged" women's style, if we use modern clothing as comparison. There is one funny scene, though, where she did dress up and had thicker make-up 😂.
Just finished episode 5. I have done a lot of pausing and rewinding just to get the names and roles/positions of the many different characters, as well as to better understand the plot details and progress. But so far it's intriguing, 'coz I like the combination of historical setting (Republican era in this case) and espionage theme. Plus the characters are interesting.
I finished Love Game yesterday, and it's an enjoyable ride! I like the story's execution and the creative and interesting way they wrap up things in the end. Sure, additional scenes between the main couple would've been great, but I'm happy with how they ended it. The cast did a wonderful job - Esther Yu, Ding Yu Xi, Bambi Zhu, Yang Shi Ze, the adorable Lu Yu Hao (Cui Cui), and most of the supporting casts. There is great chemistry between the main characters, Ling Miao Miao and Mu Zi Qi. I have some questions on the plot, but I found answers to most in reading reviews/comments and comparing notes with other watchers. Overall, a good drama that I would recommend!
