I have not read TBW novel, but I suspect there will be elements of friendship, loyalty and kindness. Perhaps love and romance between the characters played by Reba and Allen, and friendship, loyalty and kindness will be between their characters and the side characters.

And also for Dilraba, she likes to act in dramas where the FL sticks with the ML, with no third party (Eternal Love of Dream, The Long Ballad, You are my glory). I think this is the same for Allen? No third party in a relationship in his dramas?

I think The Blue Whisper is in good hands.

Just read an online article which claimed that the blue whisper will air on 30 Jan. It will come into direct competition…
If this is true, the first few episodes of TBW will be shown over the Chinese New Year 2022. They could be relying on the new year crowd to get viewers hooked on to the first few episodes, and then the rest of the series. Maybe Youku feels that TBW can weather the competition from the Winter Games??

Just read an online article which claimed that the blue whisper will air on 30 Jan. It will come into direct competition with mirror twin cities and shanshi, starring xu Kai and Wu jinyan, both from Yanxi palace

Shanshi will start on Jan 10, Mirror Twin Cities on 29 Jan. In MDL, Shanshi is titled Imperial Cuisine.

I am not sure about shanshi, but if this news is accurate, both the blue whisper and twin cities will have to compete with the winter Olympics.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
I read, Dilraba's team has been sent the FL role of Feng Lai Qi to consider. It seems interesting and different.…
I watched JOL quite a while ago, and can no longer remember much of it. I can only recall the drumstick lady, because her character is really cute and her interaction with Fan Xian really provided lots of the comedy for this drama. And the actress who plays the drumstick lady, she is a good actress.

TMOPB is good. I watched it a couple of times. But, for romance, ELOD is better. I seem to feel that D conveys romance better than Yang Mi. But YM plays a badass girl in TMOPB very well. And TMOPB gave D lots of exposure in China and made her really famous, even though she was only the 2nd lead. D really did a very good job in ELOD. I waited for that drama for quite a while, from the time TMOPB ended.

D also acted in Flame's Daughter. Not sure if you watched that one.

After four successive picks, from TLB to YAMG and TBW, LOA, I think Reba and her team would know her strength and what kind of script will play to her strength. A sci-fi modern drama would have been great. It would mean she will get to stretch her acting range. Guess there isn't a good script like that around, which is pretty much forcing her to get back to historical drama. I don't really care what she picks, knowing that it would have passed close scrutiny by her and her team and she would excel in it. But, she will need to decide fast, because some producers/directors may not be all that patient and there are plenty of options for them.

Hope your son is enjoying SSS. It moves too slowly for me and many of the fight scenes are in slow-mo, which are really old fashioned. I hardly even see anyone touching anyone. But, it is well possible that your son might enjoy it.

Here is wishing you and your family a great year ahead!!

On The Blue Whisper: Part 1 Jan 1, 2022
Just a note to all who have read the novel, please do not expect a tight coupling between the drama and the novel. In cases where the novel writer is also the screenwriter for a drama adaptation, such as You are My Glory, everything was close to being identical. Some readers of that novel mentioned that even some of the dialogue was taken right out from the novel.

It will be different for The Blue Whisper, because the author of the novel is not the screenwriter. The screenwriter looks like a fairly young lady. When I clicked on her resume here in MDL, the most recent and successful script she wrote was for The Rebel Princess. That drama did Ok, because it has a megastar as the female lead. But, we need not worry too much, because Director Chu, the director of TBW, is a very experienced director who has directed many Xianxia dramas successfully (Ashes of Love, Eternal love of dream, Noble Aspirations). He is definitely more senior than the scripwriter, and, while filming this, should he see something amiss, I am sure the producer would have given him the authority to make the necessary adjustments.

So, we will have two possible layers of adjustments or adaptations from the original novel. Please do not be concerned about cosmetic changes. If the original novel is a very good novel (and one must assume it is, or it would never have been selected for drama adaptation), the screenwriter and director would surely not change the main plot. Cosmetic changes like hair colour and costume colour should not hamper the quality of the drama nor affect the core character of the ML and FL.

I usually do not read the source material before watching a drama, beause I like the drama to tell me the story and want be totally surprised by the plot. But, I do have confidence that nothing substantial will be changed from the novel. At least not with regard to story involving the FL and the ML. It is very possible that some of the side characters may be watered down, to give greater focus on the main plot.

Let us all, novel readers and non-novel readers alike, enjoy this wonderful drama once it airs.

I am keen to know your reaction to JOL and ELOD.

There is still a chance that we can get two Dilraba dramas in 2023. She needs to decide fast for the next one, and start filming no later than Feb 2022. The 2nd one can start filming in August 2022. And both can make it on time for 2023.

She is really popular in China now and most of her dramas seem to get airing license pretty quickly.

They are both good actors, particularly for historical dramas. And Dilraba have yet to act in a single drama with either of them. So, yah, it will be fun to see what kind of screen chemistry she will have with these two.

I think as long as you can post, it should be ok. Also, I think we have already made our point very clear, that this person is trying to spread fake information. This person already knows that we are fact-checking on her and will not try to make anymore wild allegations. That should be enough. Let's forget about her and just move on. No point wasting our time with people like that.

Welcome back to active participation in MDL! It is fun to read the stuff you wrote, as always. The airing of TBW…
They need high viewership numbers in China for commercial reasons. After all, someone needs to pay so that we can get to watch this wonderful drama. High viewership in China will just mean Youku and other investors get their fair reward, for the amount of resources they put into making the TBW. If I am not wrong, they likely charge all those who wish to place ads during its airing, based on the number of views.

Wow - that’s about halfway to YAMG’s inflated 4bn!!!
While some of those promotional tactics may have won it extra views, one can easily forward the argument the Summer Games in Tokyo took away million of views too. So, in the end, all is fair and square. YAMG survived the Olympics and scored a huge summer hit for Tencent.

That is exactly what some people want to make it out to be, when they say it is inflated, that somehow Tecent 'forced' game players to watch YAMG. When players have the option to opt out, but they do not, they already made their choice.

I did read one on-article, in which some whistleblowers claimed that Tencent 'forced' players to watch the show. But, when other players replied that that is not true, that other gaming companies could have paid those whistleblowers to make those false allegations, nothing was heard of that allegation again.

There is nothing wrong with Tencent using promotion tactics to promote a show. They likely did some stuff to promote SSS as well. All producers do stuff to promote their shows. Which producer does not want their show to succeed?

But Tencent did an excellent job for YAMG. Sending Dilraba and Yang Yang for that trip to Disneyland just prior to that episode that sent their viewing plaltforms crashing due to heavey was a masterstroke.

Thanks for reaffirming that people were not forced to watch YAMG. You and I and many others, we were on the MDL page of YAMG when it was aired. It amassed about 100M views per episode, up until the week prior to the 'happy' episode that caused millions of people from around the world to crash both online platforms of Tencent. It took a while to hit 2B views, and not 5 days, as falsely claimed by some individual.

Title You Are My Glory Spoiler
Took me 5 months to finish it!
It is a very common plot for many modern Cdramas, to have a rich CEO fall in love with a poor girl. Here we have a rich girl who fell in love with a guy who is poorer than her. She gave him hope to reach for the stars, to fulfill his dream. She was the reason he did not switch career.

There is a saying, behind every successful man, there is a woman. That scene in the final episode, when QJJ stood behind Yutu, illustrates that quote really well.

There are many emotional elements in this drama. When you can connect with those emotional elements or moments, this drama becomes really special. Or else, this drama will be nothing special, or no different from many other dramas that you have watched.
