Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
I do expect more romance between ML/L and the ending is quite short but still a good ending. The story line is…
The main focus of this drama was never about romance, but the character growth of the main protaganist, Li Changge. If you read the source material, which you can find in the Recent Discussion section above, 2nd link, you will see that there is hardly any romance there.

When they adapted the material for this drama, they already injected lots of romance. Any more romance, this drama would have lost its focus and deviate from the essence of the source material, which is to trace the tragic and epic journey of Li Changge, prompted by a real historical event in E2, known in history as The Xuanwu Gate Incident, as described in the synopsis.

When the producer was asked, what was the most charming about this story, the way the scriptwriters have decided to tell the story of Li Changge, she said, it is Li Changge's willingness to forgive. Lots of historical dramas, people are bent on taking revenge, to exact a sense of social justice. But Li Changge was different. She chose to look at the big picture and forgive the person who killed her biological father.

In her journey to reach that decision, she grew in her character and became a much better person, and this theme is far deeper and more meaningful than romance, which we can find in lots of other historical Cdramas, particularly the rom-com genre.

This really makes The Long Ballad rather unique, even for serious non-romantic themed historical dramas. Li Changge's preference for peace, and Ashile Sun's desire to support her dream was the foundation for peace between the Tang Dynasty and the Ashile Troops, peace which is a win-win solution for both sides. In real Chinese history, there was indeed this period of peace between Tang Dynasty and the Eastern Turkic Khaganate (represented by the Ashile troops in this drama).

Can anyone tell me why Chinese people prefer historical dramas over modern? I’ve seen people say that “______…
I am also amazed why so many non-Chinese like to watch historical Chinese dramas. For example, on the page of The Long Ballad, lots of commentators there are non-Chinese. If they did not reveal their nationality, I would have thought that they are actually Chinese! So, there must something about these dramas that even non-Chinese find it fun to watch.

Can anyone tell me why Chinese people prefer historical dramas over modern? I’ve seen people say that “______…
In your first line, you said "Chinese people ..." Are you referring to Chinese people in China, or are you referring to Chinese people overseas? Whichever you are referring to, let me give a simple explanation. This is just my point of view, and may not represent a majority of overseas Chinese people.

I am an overseas Chinese. But western educated. If I want to watch modern dramas, I actually prefer western modern dramas. Especially American dramas. Lots of good ones, especially crime related series like FBI, CSI, etc. For modern romantic dramas, there are lots from Korea. Only recently, China is catching up, both in terms of script, acting and production. You are my glory is a very good example. The story is simple, acting is great and production is great. It should appeal to English speaking overseas Chinese, and, of course, overseas Chinese who do not speak English.

But historical Chinese dramas is totally different thing. Long ago, historical Chinese dramas already caught up with the Koreas. May have to do with production. Production sets are much much better than the Koreans. And the costumes, they are just amazing. And, being an overseas Chinese, I can relate better to historical Chinese dramas than historical Korean dramas. Sometimes, watching an historical Chinese drama is like finding my historical roots, why I behave the way I do, or even eat the food that I do, because there are lots cultural elements in these dramas, which I do not find in modern Chinese dramas.

This may well be the same reason why people in China also prefer historical dramas to modern dramas. They like to see a bit of their history on the small screen.

Hence, I seldom watch modern Chinese dramas. I followed Dilraba here from The Long Ballad. If it was someone else who was the FL in YAMG, I doubt I would have watched it.

But, this is just my perspective and my taste. There could be lots of overseas Chinese out there who do not prefer historical dramas over modern dramas. They may like them both, equally, as long as the script and the acting are good.

Seen her in Game for Peace promos, but didn't know she's decided to join Running Man. BTW when did she record…
I see. In that case, the Twitter video that I saw may well be the latest. And that article I read? It is from Yahoo. Looks quite legit.

Not sure the exact date it was recorded but the Twitter clip indicated it was just a few days ago.

Regarding the article that talks about her joining Running Man, it also mentioned that her first appearance could be as early as this week. If this is true, we should be able to see it in a few weeks.

I have a feeling her fans in China might know her future plans. Particularly those in her fan club.

I am loving the OST sang here by Zhou Shen, randomly clicked that video and wow the voice!
What brought you here to this page? If you like to watch Dilraba's dramas, you will love The Long Ballad. She did exceptional well here. All the cast members, actually. And, if you like good music, this drama has plenty of it. All the OSTs are great, as well as the BGM.

On Ball Lightning Nov 29, 2021
Just saw on Twitter. Reba appeared as a guest on the variety show called Game for Peace. I think this one, she is just making a guest appearance. The Running Man stuff could be something more permanent. Maybe she has to sign a contract to appear on a number of episodes. Hope it is not long, else if something interesting pops up, she could be stuck on that show.

One online article mentioned that Reba has decided to join the cast of Running Man, which is a very popular variety show in China. Anyone of you heard something similar?

She was on the cast of that same show back in 2017, when Angelababby was pregnant and had to take maternity leave. If confirmed, we are happy for her. Maybe she does need some rest from constantly filming new dramas. Or, perhaps, there is just no drama with a good script and short filming cycle of 3-4 months.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
It has a really good meaning behind it but I get how it can be unsatisfying
For me, the ending is totally ok. It is quite in line with their characters and does make the ending less conventional.

The two mistakes made were the parrots kissing scene. That one, it seems the decision was made by the director. Most people felt that the scene would have been better without the two parrots.

2nd mistake, using those cartoons in many of the battle scenes. It was meant to be a homage to the manhua. But, in an interview, the producer alluded to the fact that from hindsight, she would have done things different. They can still use the animation, but just not so many. Some of the really epic battles should have been done via live action.

Hmmm..ill start this cdrama after I finish watching going seventeen recent episodes, red sleeve ep6, keep running…
How to know a drama is really really really good? A few ways

1. Look at the MDL score. Anything around 8.4 to 8.5 is a pretty decent drama. This one is at 8.8. Way above decent.
2. Look at the view count. For this drama, you can click on the Tencent video icon and check. Currently, it is at 4.1B views. For a modern romance drama, for whole of 2021, this has the highest number of views. That shows how popular this drama is, in China.
3. Take a sample of 10 comments here in this comment section. Read and see what do majority of people who have already viewed this drama say about its quality. If most concur it is a good drama, it is. If it is a lousy drama, you will find lots of differing opinions.

It is not a foolproof way, but going through the above steps will help you decide if this drama is really really really good. Ultimately, watching drama is a matter of taste. Even if it is good for hundreds of others, you might still find it not to your taste. But, using the above questions as a screening device will save you lots of time in watching inferior dramas.

If this airs in December or January, it would be surprising
Why would that be? They already obtained the broadcasting license. Another drama that obtained the broadcasting license at the same time as TBW is Luoyang, and that one is airing on 1 Dec.

So, for TBW to air sometime in late Dec to early Jan 2022 is well within expectations.

Some months back, I already did some calculations, just how far apart were they in that final scene. Just about 30 seconds. Which proved that they did not go their separate ways, as some viewers think. He was always nearby, but she would be free to roam around doing her favourite stuff. When help is needed, he would be nearby.
