Liu Yuning is very good here! I became his fan after watching TLB.
Very nice to see that you still come back to this page now and then

Rightt.... Those were good times. I doubt that the precedent of this communication, exchange of ideas, fun over…
I think all of us can be proud to be part of the crowd that made this the most commented section in MDL. If they did not take away an entire week of our comments and dampened our enthusiasm in the process, we should have hit 40k by now.

how is Jun Jiu Ling? does it have a similar storyline to TLB?
It is not quite the same calibre as TLB, but honestly, nothing can come close to the TLB. Not at this moment anyway. So, while waiting for better historical to come along, I just watch Jun Jiu Ling. The FL there, Peng Xiao Ran, became very famous for Goodbye my Princess, which is a pretty good historical. Unfortunately the plot for Jun Jiu Ling isn't quite the same level as GMP.

Please read this: https://supchina.com/2021/06/30/in-the-7th-century-a-chinese-coup-of-shakespearean-proportions/The…
No, not explained in the drama. I think most viewers in China are familiar with this part of history. For us international viewers, maybe the screenwriters feel that we will read about the Xuanwu Gate Incident, so in the drama, they did not even bother to explain how Li Sim became the emperor. His father, Emperor Gaozong was not even portrayed in the drama

Indeed! There was just so much fun. And I still remember we were thinking of animal parallels for Yicheng and Changge

Me too. Finally managed to watch another drama without Dil in it but still keep on coming back to this page. Ahh,…
We will know Reba's schedule right after she has done filming Legend of Anle, whether she needs to film 2nd part of The Blue Whisper, or she will take on another project. If she is done filming TBW, very likely she will take on Ball Lightning. It is a new kind of modern drama for her, and I am sure she would rather do something different, rather than another role acting as a celebrity like QJJ in YAMG. We will know her next project very soon.

I miss the stimulating conversations on this page!
But I must say, quite a few of the old timers still come to this page, from time to time. You can see them here. Fairydustpuppy, TLBJunkie, Kaju, Titania, Gizzy, just to name a few. Mooberry just came back for a visit. Eyrith is also a strong supporter of Reba, but I do not recall discussing with her in May/June on the page of TLB, but I did exchange some messages with her in YAMG.

Gizzy, I also started an MDL account because of TLB. I was just silently reading all the comments, while the drama was still being aired. And then I read all those unreasonable attack either on the drama itself or on Reba, and just felt compelled to start an account and join the many others to push back against all those unreasonable attacks.

And after TLB, I just followed her to You Are My Glory. But that show was just too 'simple' for her, acting wise. She just needed to be herself, and she aced her role there. A piece of cake for her.

So, now waiting for The Blue Whisper, next year. And Legend of Anle. Between modern and historical dramas, I still prefer to watch her in historical dramas, so next year is going to great, in terms of watching her dramas.

But, I do not just watch her historical dramas. Any good one out there, I will watch. After TLB, I think all our standards have gone up. At least our rating standard. All the new historical dramas, none able to match TLB so far, in terms of having a strong female lead.

Those days are long gone. We have squeezed whatever we could from this wonderful drama. Will need newcomers to…
Somehow, the 'right' people were all here, at the 'right' time. All so keen to discuss so many different aspects of this drama, or discussed the various characters in the drama, or even discussed the various actors/actresses.

And we were doing legitimate discussions, not just playing games here just to add to the comment count.

And round about mid May to maybe end June, each time an old timer leaves this place, newcomers joined us and continue to provide new ideas for us to discuss.

Dilraba and the TLB drama itself have been nominated for the Seoul International Drama awards. If either or both win, it may provide us with new incentives to light up this place again.

This forum is a freak of nature. Doubt it will happen again.

CG wasn't the type to express love in the way many of us here expected but given her upbringing and her tom-boy…
Eternal Love of Dream (also known as Pillow Book), is somewhat related to Eternal Love (Ten Miles of Peach Blossom), in that some of the characters found in TMOPB are also found in ELOD, but they are quite different stories.

Dilraba is just a supporting character in TMOPB, but she is the main FL in ELOD, so her role there is more extensive.

I have watched both and they are very good xianxia dramas.

Xianxia is a fantasy genre that has little to do Chinese history. They mainly deal with the battle between good and evil, with both sides trying to gain more power so that each can try to defeat the other. And they would normally mix in a fair amount of romance, to make the story more interesting. ELOD actually has more romance than TMOPB.

Hi! I was watching “Born to Dance” and Gina Jin use cocoon as the BGM for her dance. I miss “The Long Ballad”…
Welcome back to this page! You left us months ago, but still come back to pay us a visit.

Just out of curiosity, I went to watch Gina Jin's dance. It is quite good! I think she graduated from a dance academy? So, not surprising that she can dance so well. And watching that dance made me realise just how tall she is!! 1.7m. She is taller than Reba by 2 cm!

And not surprising that Cocoon reminded you of The Long Ballad.

If they do it well, you should get even more out of the drama
If you found something new, with better dubbing, please do tell us. Or maybe nothing new, even if it something old, but better communicated, we will still be keen to know.

If you do not mind historical Xianxia drama, Dilraba, who acted as Li Changge in TLB, is the FL lead in this drama called Eternal Love of Dream. She can fight and there is romance in the drama. But Xianxia is slightly different from Wuxia.

I did not watch Legend of Fei, after reading about bad reviews. But sure, since you already started it, you should try it, before trying Princess Silver. If you do not mind a strong female lead who cannot fight, but uses her intelligence and wit to get her way, there is the historical drama called Story of Yanxi Palace, set during the Qing Dynasty. That is a very famous drama, so I suspect you might have already watched it.

Different storyline. The main protaganist, Jun Jiu Ling, she cannot fight like our Li Changge. But she has good medical skills, which she put to good use. Yet, it is somewhat similar to TLB, as revenge is also one of the motives in the story. You should try a few episodes and see how you take to it.

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
CG wasn't the type to express love in the way many of us here expected but given her upbringing and her tom-boy…
I think when the series ended in E49, they showed AS in Eagles' Division battlegear because he still had some unfinished business at the grassland. After the battle with the Tang troops, the Eastern Turkic was in a mess. So, very likely both AS and Mujin had to go back to the Eagles' Division to get things settled down.

I think very possibly AS will officially handover the leadership to Mujin. I fully agree with you that AS has had enough of bloodshed. He would like to lead a simple life with Li Changge. They might just retire to a village somewhere in the grasslands. If they had one or two more episodes, I suspect that is what could have happened.

In the source materials, they showed CG learning farming techniques while she was at the Liuyun temple. So, she could easily be teaching some of the tribes how to maximise their harvest. With no food shortage, they will have no motivation to keep fighting the Tang. She can also make sure of her medical knowledge to help the sick. Lots of things she can do. Likewise for AS. He can make sure of his leadership skills to help tribes organise their labour for farming of crops.

So, I am in total agreement with you, that both have had enough of bloodshed and just wanted to live in peace. In the drama, they both said, in this life, it is enough just to have each other. No more fighting.

So, you are looking for historical dramas with strong females leads? With some wuxia (martials arts)?

Title The Long Ballad Spoiler
CG wasn't the type to express love in the way many of us here expected but given her upbringing and her tom-boy…
I think from very young, she was already brought up as a tomboy. We saw Li Simin taught her martial arts. And very likely military strategies as well. Not sure who taught her horse riding and arrow shooting, but she surely learnt that from someone in the palace. So, for her to suddenly turn ultra feminine will be rather unrealistic. I think she changed slowly, after she got her first period at the grassland. Mimi probably had a big role to play, teaching what it meant to be a woman.

And at the Liuyun Temple, under the influence of the Abbess and with more time to reflect, she probably grew more and more feminine, and was slowly able to reciprocate AS's romantic feelings toward her. Yet, she did not lose her badass attitude. Even in E32, she was still wielding her sword and doing some damage with it. And in E48, she was armed with her little dagger while saving AS, still exhibiting her badass and courageous attitude . The final scene in E49 showed her in her feminine attire without any sword, but we must not forget, she already knew how to fight with twigs after learning from her sifu. That's why many of us felt that she was not shown together with AS in the final frame. She is capable enough to defend herself at the grasslands, and, if need be, AS is just close by to render help.

From E1 to E49, her character changed and matured, as she learned to let go of her selfish motive to take revenge and learned to put the interest of Tang, before her private agenda to kill Li Simin. But, I think others aspects of her, like her bravery and courage, her intelligence and ability to think quickly on her continued right till the very end of the drama. She actually lost more and more of her early impulsivenss and learned to be a better decision maker throughout the series.
