Which means there is a 3-week gap between the last episode of YAMG and TOOL. Once TOOL starts, and it is really good, 'neutrals' will flock there, which will be bad for YAMG. As drama viewers, we cannot hope that another drama will flop, just because we want YAMG to succeed. That is a nasty thought, as bad as 'haters' of YAMG who wish that this drama will flop, so that theirs will look good.

The success of TOOL is beyond any one's control. The key to YAMG's success will still hinge on the next two weeks. Perhaps, fearing for intense competition, Reba and YY's fan bases in China will come out in full force, and the next two weeks are so good, lots of 'neutrals' will join in, and we can still get to 4B, before TOOL starts.

At this moment, 4B views is still very much a possibility. We do not need to wait very long to know the results. By next week, if all 6 episodes are extremely well received in China, 4B a done deal.

Looking at the calender, that means YAMG must hit 3B views by 11 August, 5 pm, China time. If it misses that target by a big margin, hitting 4B before TOOL airs will be rather challenging.

I heard that they did a very very good job there. So this is good news. If post production can work fast, we might see this early next year

If it is 1.3b views, as of 5pm in China time, it is not good news at all. The Chinese women's table tennis team will be playing tonight, China time. Meaning those who missed the previous 4 episodes, will not likely to watch it. Chinese men's table tennis team playing in the final on Friday night, China time. Again, that is killer for YAMG.

Realistically, the ONLY episodes that can help to salvage this drama will the episodes starting from next week.

Believe me, if the final viewership in China when this thing ends is only around 3B, it has underperformed (regardless of what Tencent will say publicly). 4B will be Ok. 5B is just not possible anymore.

I do not wish to be pessimistic. But at the rate things are going, not sure even if praying can help it to reach 4B. Sure, we can all keep our hopes up, and pray. The key will be the next two weeks. Those reconciliation scenes between QJJ and YT must be totally charming to viewers. If they are not, and the series ends only with 3B plus views, it will be a huge disappointment to many people.

Hitting only 3B may well be considered below expectations, given their star status in China.

Tencent will still make some good money. But, given the fact that they lost a lot of money recently, they must be hoping that this series will hit 5B. But, it is not going to hit that number.

Exactly! 1B plus so far is hardly anything to celebrate. That is why I think Nauriya said it is not well received in China. It must really reach 4B when the series ends, given the two mega stars. So else, it is a disappointing result.

They both have lots of fans in China. And this show is number 1 in China right now. But, to be a big hit in China when total viewership number comes in, it must hit around 5B views.

Right now, the pace shows that when this series ends in China, it will only hit around 3B plus views. Which means it does well, but not enough to make this a big hit (much less a mega hit) in China.

Given the fact that both the leads are huge stars, just hitting 3B plus views is not a result that calls for celebration.

We can withhold our judgement for the moment. The Olympic Games are still onging. When the Games end by this weekend, and there are still more YAMG episodes to come, and the later episodes are the fan favourites, because it will show them getting together, getting married and so on.

Without any competitions for viewership, and with all the happy episodes coming up over the next two weeks, it might hit in excess of 4B views and Tencent will still be happy.

Originally, I had thought that it would be the other way round, that it would be more popular in China, compared to international viewers.

But, if it is true that this series is not as popular in China, as it with international viewers, I do have a theory. Will explain later, when the series ends.

I have lost most of my knowledge in statistics. But, if I am not wrong, the average figure (8.7) is now moving in our favour. Meaning, more and more of the new viewers are rating at above 8.7. If this trend persists, the average rating may well hit 8.8.

I suspect more and more new viewers are not annoyed by those animation or the lack of kisses between Li Changge and Ashile Sun. They can see for themselves that this drama has a very deep and complex plot. All the leading actors and actresses and the entire cast really did a good. And also appeciate the fact that this drama was filmed at the height of the pandemic.

Hence, the rating went up from 8.6 to 8.7. So, let us hope for 8.8 in a new months.

Been like this for 2 days now, so cannot be a false alarm. Many newcomers have found this to be a great drama, like many of us did a few months ago. So, it will either stay at 8.7 (which is already great!) or go even higher.

In his/her earlier comments, this viewer found Yang Yang's acting a bit 'stiff' or cold. Like his face does not seem to emote much or show much variation in facial expressions.
