I have made a request for them to combine the MDL pages of Part 1 and 2 into a single page. That request is not likely to meet with a positive response.
What should we do? Flip back and forth between both pages? Or should just stick to this one and leave that page to look like a wilderness?
If we leave this page, when Part 2 starts, people might still come here, asking questions. If we stick to this one, will passers' by go to Part 2 page and ask questions?
No easy answer, as Part 1 and 2 are so interconnected.
I trust in the wisdom of the majority. What are your views?? No choice but to flip back and forth between the two pages?
Looking at the latest trailer, our suspicion should be correct. Part 2 will be more focused on the relationship between Ji Yunhe and Changyi. So, they both should have huge amount of screentime in Part 2.
Until someone with more time comes along, here is the gist. Ji Yunhe said she has been kept in captivity for a…
If it helps the trailer to make sense to you, I am on the right path. But someone with better command of Mandarin/Chinese may translate it differently.
Completely agree about the quality! I’m so glad that they did not get some annoying high-pitched voice for Yun…
I know. Poor dubbing can make people drop an entire drama series. Here, it is simply world class quality.
Yunhe's dubber is the same voice actress who dubbed her in TMOPB, ELOD and TLB. She is really really good. She has total voice control. And she knows exactly how Dilraba renders her Mandarin, so is able to dub it perfectly.
Hence, it was so much fun watching it in raw, to see Yunhe's voice being dubbed so perfectly, to feel all of Yunhe's emotions of happiness, pain, and sadness, as if those words came right out of Dilraba's mouth.
Can some translate this short video please? Thankshttps://twitter.com/hoogmikyung2/status/1510070826607214593?s=20&t=zqwg9Rvy0yyL0aVEYNg6uQ
Until someone with more time comes along, here is the gist.
Ji Yunhe said she has been kept in captivity for a long time; she wants to be free. She wants Changyi to set her free. He said no. She said, perhaps if the incident at the cliff did not happen, they could have been a couple forever.
He asked her for a reason, why she did what she did at the cliff. She did not give the reason (so we do not know why). She would rather die, than be with Changyi, hence she asked him to kill her so that he can also be free from the frustration of not knowing why she did what she did at the cliff.
On her own, Ji Yunhe expressed great pain being separated from him. On his own, he also expressed great pain. Privately, he also expressed that he could not let her go. That is the degree of the love they have for each other. Hence, he said he will wait for her.
Last part of vidoe, Ji Yunhe became Aji. He said he cannot recognise who she is, because she looks so different. At this stage, I think she lost her memory, so she might also not know who she is.
It all depends on how one defines back to back. I would define back to back as having zero gap, meaning Part 2…
Broadcasting rights was split into two. Youku for China; Croton Media for internationa. This time, they were ready for the China market, hence Youku went ahead first. Croton Media was not ready for the international market.
Youku went ahead first, precisesly because they want to jump ahead of WRTW. If they had waited for Croton Media to be ready for subs, they would not have been able to show Part 1 in China on 17 March. Assuming the dubbing takes 2 weeks for the entire series, they may have to wait till end March to show Part 1. But, that would mean the screening of Part 2 will also be delayed.
This delay may well cause Tencent to not want to wait for TBW to be over. As it is, with complete web casting of both Part 1 and 2 done by end April, Tencent is willing to wait.
It is win-win for both Youku and Tencent. With no competition, both dramas will do well.
Just a short word about the dubbing in TBW. It is first class. I watched it raw on my desktop, using a earphone. And I observed the mouth movements of all the cast members and the sound from the dubbers. Here are my findings:
1. The mouth movements and the sound from the dubbers are pretty much in sync. No time lapse, save for a few short dialogues. I would say 95% in sync?
2. Quality wise, very very good. The dubbers are able to convey all the right emotions shown by the cast members, even for those doing minor supporting roles.
3. Apart from being in sync, the exact words in Mandarin completely match the shape of the cast members' when they pronounced those Chinese words in Mandarin while filming.
In short, top class dubbing. People who come in here and crticize the drama for bad dubbing, we know they have bad intentions or have no basis for saying so, or need to go see an otolaryngologist.
Should be. I think part 2 will focus more on Yunhe and Changyi.
You are referring to Part 2? Yes, officially, it was listed as 30 episodes. But, we knew all along that they have already shortened it. The short filming cycle of about 3 months meant that for the two parts combined, they only shot enough film to take it to 40 plus episodes, and not 50 plus.
Hence, both Part 1 and Part 2 got shortened. But, this is done deliberately, meaning they already knew how much film they need. Hence, during post production, there will be less issues. They do not need to worry about having too much about deleting which scenes, because they only shot what they want.
Could be, I saw a video of her with a cooling patch on her forehead. 😔Poor Baba.
For actresses, she is truly one of the best if not the best in China. She is truly worthy of our following. Fairydustpuppy, one of the participants here, used to say, Dilraba is beautiful inside and out. That is so true.
Nothing yet. More and more, we suspect that the agreement between Youku and Croton Media is that we will only…
Don't worry. As long as you do not understand Mandarin and Chinese, you will not be tempted to watch it raw. And the wait is very worth it, because Part 1 is really good. Many people said Part 2 is even better. So, it will be worth our wait.
I could understand about 50% of what they said, and many of the technical terms and more complicated dialogues, I do not understand. Honestly, I watched it raw just for fun, to pass time while waiting for the subs. Since then, I have found a new motive for watching it raw, and that is to encourage people to wait and not lose interest, because this is such a great drama.
See, I said before TBW part 1 and part 2 will be aired back to back. Who said we need to wait until couple of…
It all depends on how one defines back to back. I would define back to back as having zero gap, meaning Part 2 will be shown on 2 April in China. This would not have been possible, because the censorship people would have viewed TBW as a 42 episodes drama. It would break their current 40 episode limit rule.
Now, even with a 3 day gap, technically speaking, it is two parts, and it passed their episode limit.
Our earlier speculation of 2-3 weeks gap was based on what this drama called No Boundary did. It too has Part 1 and Part 2, and the gap was 2 weeks.
Youku may also have pushed forward Part 2, in order to avoid potential competition from Who Rules the World, a drama by Tencent. Rumour has it Tencent wants to release that one in April. When Youku pushed Part 2 forward, Tencent will now have more incentive to release WRTW in May. They would rather wait, than for WRTW to fight with Part 2 of TBW, especially knowing how well Part 1 has performed in China.
Dilraba also has connection with Tencent. By delaying WRTW, Tencent will be showing goodwill to her.
I think that is the connection between Qing Shu and that clan, and Ji Yunhe. Whatever Qing Shu did to Ji Yunhe also caused her to have the fox tail. And, I suspect, not everyone from the fox tail clan can have the fox tail. Only high ranking members. So, Qing Shu could have been a high ranking member herself, thus enabling Ji Yunhe to also have the fox tail, and be so powerful.
I actually hope they give us the subs before TBW 2... I personally think it was a mistake for them to rush it…
Totally agree with you. I think they are aware of it. So, this could just a once-off case, where they are ready for the China market, but not for the international.
As a result of releasing TBW earlier in China, now Part 2 can be completed before the end of April. There is heavy rumour that Tencent may be releasing Who Rules the World. Since Part 1 of TBW did so well in China, Tencent may now be tempted to release WRTW in May, rather than in April. This would give TBW Part 2, a free ride in China (no competition from another heavyweight historical drama).
With no competition in China, they stand to make much much more money, more than what they will lose by delaying the subs.
If they had waited for subs and release both at the same time, there could be a one to two weeks delay. And this could really mean head on competition with WRTW.
This is just my speculation. In Youku's next drama, if they still follow this two stage release strategy, then, I am wrong, that all along, the Eng subs had nothing to do it. It was their intention all along, to adopt this two-stage release strategy.
Could be, I saw a video of her with a cooling patch on her forehead. 😔Poor Baba.
Article I read shows a photo of her with the cooling patch and continued with the shooting despite the fever. That is the kind of dedication she brings to her job.
Article also said Cristy Guo commented that Reba is almost like a child on set, always trying do little things to make people happy. Pretty consistent with what we know about her. She did the same thing while filming TLB.
Just read an article which mentioned that Dilraba developed high fever while filming TBW. Just wondering aloud,…
Same article seems to suggest that story line in Part 2 will revolve more around Changyi and Ji Yunhe. So, we should be seeing relatively more of them compared to the supporting cast.
Just read an article which mentioned that Dilraba developed high fever while filming TBW. Just wondering aloud, did this led to reduced screen time for both her and Allen? Particularly those scenes that involved both of them? That her fever forced them to make some changes which resulted in more screen time for the supporting cast members?
Same article also mentioned that once she tested negative for COVID and her fever subsided somewhat, filming quickly resumed and the cast members were full of admiration for her. Especially when she insisted on doing all the stunts herself, instead of using body double.
Should be. I think part 2 will focus more on Yunhe and Changyi.
Quite sometime, I read an online article which suggested that Dilraba is scared of going underwater for too long, because she nearly drowned, when she was little. Could this be the reason they did not film those underwater scene?
Total number of episodes for Part 2 has been speculated to be 21. The director is really a very experienced person. I think he will do justice to both the Ji Yunhe and Changyi characters.
What should we do? Flip back and forth between both pages? Or should just stick to this one and leave that page to look like a wilderness?
