At the end of episode 8 (after the rest of the gang left Tae-seop’s mom’s restaurant plastered) Ui-yeong tells Tae-seop wait a second and leaves. I said to myself she is going to get a bottle of soju. Sure enough she is back with a bottle of soju and knocks back a couple drinks so she can express her feelings to Tae-seop. The red flags continue. My rating has dropped to 7. The amount of alcohol consumed at these dinners is absurd.
Episode 5 question. Can someone explain what the argument was about between the woman Eun-ah was house sitting for and Eun-ah Then later they were all lovey dovey. I didn’t even remember who that couple were (and its only 5 episodes in 🤫).
I agree with you. It's kind of repulsive to see all that drinking. It takes away some of the humor and fun out…
In one of the blind dates didn’t the guy ask about how much alcohol Ui Yeong could handle and she said she was able to drink a bottle of wine at a sitting. Big red flag. When there are these drinking sessions in kdramas I sometimes freeze frrame and count the soju and beer bottles on the table. It incredible the amount of alcohol they show one or two people consuming. Right from the beginning of this drama I thought there was too much alcohol consumption. Even mom seem to have a wine bottle open every evening.
I just heard this ML actor has previous gloomy roles. I like this drama bc he shows a wide range of emotions,…
Perhaps gloomy might be one characteristic of Jinyoung’s role/performance in Channel A’s THE WITCH (10 episodes). Some may have considered it controversial but I did not. Post college iirc he set out to use science to prove whether a girl he went to high school was or was not a ‘witch’. That meant investigating the strange episodes in her life. Some thought it bordered on stalking. Imo there is a similarity in these two characters he is/has played in that he is used to solitude. Anyway THE WITCH was one of my favorite 2025 dramas. Lol and Jinyoung looked great in nerdy glasses.
STILL SHINING’s writing continues to be top notch . I so much prefer hearing characters’ thoughts rather than the annoying talking out loud which makes them look like lunatics. Enough is revealed in episodes 3 and 4 to know all is not well with the 30 year olds Tae Seo and Eun A . Tae Seo’s living arrangement (roof top room—tough on the kneesTS) is basically a work shop and Eun A didn’t really have a place to lay her head. Hope is on the way for these two. My prayer was answered. I got to see Jinyoung (Operator 231!) operating a subway train. Well done.
The Tencent Video 🐧 subtitles for the ep 19 preview make much more sense than the ones from iqiyi 🥝. What…
Through episode 7. I am glad I chose Tencent’s subbing of PURSUIT OF JADE. From what I can tell the english subs are fine with the occasional * (asterisk) translator’s note to clarify something.
D-Day! Excited to see Shin Jae Ha again; he was great in Taxi Driver 2. Need him as ML in another drama.
SJH just had an interesting cameo in JTBC’s other currently romantic drama THE PRACTICAL GUIDE TO LOVE. Maybe he just walked from one set to the other. Nice to see SJH cast here in a main role.
As an aside the last shipping war I participated in was 6 years ago with JTBC’s ITAEWON CLASS where the question was which gal (Kwon Na-ra, Kim Da-mi) would get the guy (Park Seo-joon). For the record I was supported Kwon Na-ra.
Anyway back to JTBC’s PRACTICAL GUIDE TO LOVE. I am on the Ui Yeong/Tae Seop ship being a fan of Park Sung-hoon. FL Han Ji-min and 2ML Lee Ki-taek are dramatic blank slates for me. I am interested to see how everyone handles their character. One question. At their first date Ji Su told Ui Yeong that since he was older than her he would speak casually to her. In a way he was pulling a con there and I wonder if the age thing was part of his act. If the writer has Ji Su actually older than Ui Yeong I think that is a stretch. The lack of honesty at the first date will have to be dealt with one way or another. Ji Su did look quite sharp as a waiter.
iQIYI’s THE DEVIL BETWEEN US is a ‘Light On’ Suspense Theater drama. Not tagged in the info above.
It is now. Thank you MDL. The only question is how can TDBU be a Chinese ‘original’ story when it is adapted from a novel? I guess one could argue that the novel was a Chinese original story.
A little late but I completed SILENT TIDES tonight. It gave a fascinating account of the World War 2. years in Macau. It was my first Ren Jia Lun drama and he gave a terrific performance. I would like to also congratulate Ma Qi Yue who played businessman Ma Wan Qi. At age 21 he gave a totally believable performance of a young businessman probably around age 30. Well done MQY!
