01- The first meeting, FL pretending to be a frail, delicate gal. ML already seeing through the pretence (ML is a smart crown prince from Jin State who was also pretending to be indifferent and carefree) ….the cat and mouse games between the main leads begin.
02- FL’s sharp cunning wits shown in this episode, she had a very funny way of taking petty revenge and outwitting people who she perceives slighted her. ML of course noticed as he was tracking her activities.
03- ML starting to stick to the FL. This episode reminds me of the movie Home Alone. FL is an expert at sneakily setting defense formations in her home, assassins after her were no match, which is to be expected as she came from an outstanding family. Her mother and father are legendary generals respected even by the ML’s emperor father, her eldest brother is also another general who wins battles, and her other brother is a ranked number 1 scholar. She herself was given an honorary title of Princess Hua.
04- FL was summoned to the palace and pitted her wits against other court officials threatened by her family’s military power and trying to undermine it any way they could. FL matched with ML’s elder brother and looked for a way to get out of it.
05- Love the FL lead’s dance in this episode. She looked absolutely gorgeous and graceful dancing while the snow was falling during a palace garden banquet, and ML watched her, obviously fascinated and enchanted…. boy was he falling for her. ML also starting to feel jealous and possessive. Looks like ML was the first to fall in love.
06- ML definitely possessive now and does not want his elder brother anywhere the FL. Even court officials are now noticing and criticizing him on the time he spends around the FL.
07- Lighthearted episode, FL treating the ML to a rather painful spa treatment was funny. She also saved him from an assassin without giving herself away, all the while in the guise of just having tea and chatting casually with him. ML is quick on the uptake and not easily fooled, though.
08- I like how the ML’s family members are falling like ninepins as the charismatic FL conquered them to her side. Even the rather intimidating dowager empress is now her staunch supporter. She still matched FL with ML’s elder brother, though. She had to admit matching FL with the ML might not be a good thing, as the two will surely cause so much ruckus in the palace if they’re together. I had to agree with her. ML spewing vinegar in this episode, funny how he holds it in but you could tell straight off the bat he’s upset when the FL is matched with his brother.
09- ML venting his jealousy on his right hand wingman was funny. Way to go dowager empress, defending FL against bitchy concubines in the palace (not to worry, ML has no concubines here). ML keeps running to wherever the FL is, just like a moth attracted to flame. He’s always looking for excuses just to meet the FL wherever she goes. FL is now dowager empress’s favorite gal, she’s even invited to their worship ceremony, looking regal and lovely as she was carried in a palanquin just behind the dowager empress’s own palanquin.
10- Lol, ML became more fussy with his clothing and appearance especially when planning to visit the FL. He’s trying to ensnare her with his good looks. This episode had the FL and ML’s elder brother competing for the Ceremonial Officer position, which is probably meant to showcase FL’s business savvy and competence. The side characters were also given their own screen time. The elder brother of the ML is not the brightest bulb around but he is a nice character. The other female supporting character (Princess Jia Min) who you would think is the FL’s bratty and spoiled enemy in the beginning is turning out to be a funny character here.
11- FL and ML have a cute and funny childhood back story together. And I like Jia Min, she is a quite a comedic character. The FL’s maid is also another likeable character, and the ML’s right hand man as well. Lui Li (FL) and Jia Min got kidnapped together in this episode and it was hilarious the way Jia Min carried on, I think she stole the scenes in this episode. Yuan Su (ML) was worried and went to rescue his lady love, even bringing with him several elite troops, not that she’s really a damsel in distress.
12- FL unleashed her fierce battle skills like the warrior woman she really was and made short work of the kidnappers. Jia Min now realizes there’s something between the main couple when she saw the tight hug as soon as ML saw the FL. Enters second male lead/antagonist in this episode, second prince from Jinpo, an enemy state, He Yuan Ting. FL told ML it was Jia Min who killed some kidnappers and rescued them, of course Jia Min is now scared of Lui Li to object after seeing her in action. ML was not fooled, of course, but he went along with the story. Funny how even Jia Min’s parents really believed the story.
13- More palace scheming, with some troublemaking officials nitpicking and making a big issue when the existence of the Elite black armor troops in the capital was exposed because the crown prince (ML) mobilised them in his efforts to save the FL when she was kidnapped. Good thing the ML’s father was a chill emperor and backed up his son to prevent the officials from accusing the crown prince of planning a revolt. So refreshing to see an emperor who is not treating his sons with suspicion and being actually trusting and supportive of them (I noticed he did not appear to have any empress, only royal concubines). Of course he still needs to do his fatherly duty and scold his son so he’ll be more careful in the future and not let their enemies get the better of them. What a comfortable father and son relationship, no wonder the ML is usually underfoot and likes to stay around the emperor, too. Love how the two discuss about the things Yuan Su (ML) is looking for in his wife. He wants someone who is strong enough because he does not want someone who will be left alone in the harem like his late mother. I thought at first they would match the ML with Du Xiu Ying, an important official’s granddaughter, but she turned out to be a gentle character who was in love with another and turned into one of Hua Lui Li’s (FL) great friends. ML is now starting to hear about the second prince from their enemy state and wants to know the history rumored between him and Lui Li (more jealousy).
14- The main leads are meeting and talking with each other more frequently now, obviously getting to know each other better and becoming closer in the process. The ML’s future in-laws AKA the FL’s parents arrived in the capital and ML welcomed them respectfully. No wonder the FL has such personality and character, her doting and loving parents as well as brothers probably spoiled her, too.
15-Some funny scenes like how the ML jumped into the FL’s carriage only to come face to face with the FL plus her father inside. Awkward…. ML also runs to visit the FL on pretext of visiting her brother but the parents are not slow on the uptake either. They can tell the ML is chasing in earnest after their daughter and tried to keep her away, understandably because they had to deal with a lot of political and palace intrigues while they have the military power and they don’t want to send their one and only daughter in the imperial harem if they could help it. ML keeps coming back to the FL’s house and the family finds it rather difficult to get rid of him without being rude. Lui Li’s parents’ private conversation about their daughter’s love life was very entertaining. Since the stubborn ML won’t leave either despite their gentle hints, her parents have no choice but to get the ML drunk enough so they can get rid of him more easily. When it comes to sticking to the FL, a gorilla glue has nothing on the ML. He is aware he’s being chased away subtly but he is not the type to give up easily either, and if there’s a will there will always be a way, which pushed the main couple to start to meet in secret. Their maid and guard are their guilty accomplices.
16- FL is starting to realize that she likes the ML. The elder prince and Jia Min are falling for each other, too. More spy intrigues and the second male lead seems to be scheming something. At this point, he seemed to be deluded enough to think the FL liked him, too. The back of the hill seems to have become the main couple’s favorite secret meeting place.
17- Enter the bitchy and scheming second female lead. FL had an unpleasant encounter with the SFL and her equally mean princess something mother in a public street just as they arrived in the capital. ML witnessed it and rushed to the FL’s side. ML is so protective of the FL and he put both the mean mother and daughter duo in their place ruthlessly and whisked the FL away from their presence while they can only watch all the while seething quietly with outrage. FL was a bit jealous in this episode but ML knows how to placate her. ML also told his father not to betroth him to anyone else and he finally admitted he likes his Lui Li. No objections from the emperor, he just asked his son why he didn’t say it sooner when he almost betrothed Lui Li to his eldest son instead. Nosy emperor asking his son how far did he progress with Lui Li was just so funny, something like a nosy parent would ask. He kept teasing his son, too. Mean princess mother and her daughter spawn tried to scheme again and Luili came out ahead, even earning her a higher princess title bestowed by the emperor at the instigation of the ML, while the imperial decree turned the mother and spawn duo pea green with envy. Uh-oh, looks like the father of the spawn is a villain character, too.
18- Second male lead prince came to their state for a treaty negotiation after losing to them in a war. ML was feeling jealous and insecure in this episode and he couldn’t make it more obvious to everyone. He does tend to panic and rush to the FL’s side whenever he sees other men beside his Lui Li. FL and SML’s back story and history finally revealed, turned out SML set out a honey trap for FL during the time when the two enemy states were at war, only to fall into her own trap instead. ML was relieved the FL was never in love with another man before.
19- SML requested in front of the emperor and officials a marriage alliance to Lui Li. You could see the intense, tumultuous emotions going on inside the ML by just looking at the way he clenched fists very tightly as he fought to control his emotions, a how-dare-you-take-my-woman-away reaction. It only unclenched with relief once he realized the FL is trying to find a way to maneuver away from the marriage alliance trap. SML still kept showing up at the FL’s house. ML seemed to have a spy just waiting to report whenever some other male appears before Lui Li because no sooner than he steps his foot inside her house and ML is hotfooting in as well. And finally, ML’s love confession and the two became an official couple.
20- Oh this main couple, they’re really a cunning pair who could hatch up all sorts of schemes. Lol, the FL’s poor father ended up losing his pants as they were sacrificed to set a trap for those who are up to no good. Now the SML will be hating them for real.
21- It’s nice to see female friendships and bondings. SML is trying to brew up some trouble now for the main couple. ML also bonding a bit with his father who is sick right now. There’s a funny scene at the end while ML was drinking with the FL’s brother, I won’t go into details but it has something to do with the letters and gifts she sent him when they were young children. The ML’s reaction though 😆
22- SML’s lies led the FL to do something that ended up with her being framed for someone’s death. It’s so nice that the ML just immediately believed the FL did not kill the man and was even comforting Lui Li while hugging her tenderly. So sweet of FL’s friend Jia Min to visit her while ML told her not to go out of her house to protect her from being targeted further and proceeded to post guards around her place. But it’s funny that she crawled her way in through a secret passage wall opening covered by bushes which reminded me of a dog going through a pet door.
23- The enemies took the opportunity to attack the palace and assassinate the crown prince. FL was like an avenging angel fighting to save her man. What a power couple! Even her maid who was actually a captain in their Hua army was valiant as well. And don’t even mention the FL’s parents in their full battle gear fighting to save the emperor in the palace. As in-laws, they’re all well matched in power and unbeatable when united together.
24- Finale. It’s funny how the crown prince and emperor cornered the general (FL’s father) to hasten with their marriage proposal. ML already considers her his crown princess and insisted on keeping the FL in his palace to recuperate from her battle wounds while her father wants to take her home. He would probably have a fighting chance if the FL’s mother was with him, but against the cunning father and son ganging up on him, he was no match for them. ML also announced his intention of marrying only Lui Li and no one else in the future. A well attended royal wedding was held, and they lived happily ever after.
Simply one of the best romantic, unforgettable dramas I’ve ever seen. The story of the main couple started after they broke up years ago because the FL was still rather immature and broke up easily with the ML while they were still students. This is one of the “lovers reunited” trope done magnificently. Their chemistry is so palpable on screen, the actor really breathed so much life to his character and the actress is as great as she usually is in all her dramas. They got back together fairly quickly, and everything else was a whirlwind for them, like they were trying to make up for all the years they missed each other, no more brakes for these two but just full speed ahead. They got engaged fairly quickly, the FL got pregnant almost immediately after they got back together, and they were over the moon over finally starting a family of their own. This is not one of those dramas where you get a rushed ending. They really showed the slice of married life the couple have together, how they worked around any issues with their careers, financial matters, parental and family dynamics. Their deep emotional and physical intimacy with each other was as natural and realistic as shown in their conversations and physical affection (believe me, there’s plenty of it), even the time she went into labor and gave birth to their baby was shown here. You’re going to come out diabetic after the end of this show from all the sweetness overload of this couple. Their relationship was as solid as gold the second time around and they got the blissful family life they always wanted, a true happy ending…. and I want to rewatch this again soon lol.

LOL. They’re both eye-candies for sure, and I really enjoyed this drama. In the drama, he’s actually older, like 60ish which for them is the time they become a young adult if I recall, and that’s because their race age differently and have longer lives.

Episode 23, the conflict happened when another character got killed, the ML got framed for it, and the FL misunderstood him. Episode 24, ML was imprisoned. Episode 25, ML escaped and wanted to work together with the FL to find the truth, he also invited himself into her home so he could live with her for a while. Episode 26, the true killer was revealed, and the misunderstanding was fully resolved Episode 31, they became an official couple and shared their first kiss Episode 36, Finale with happy ending and the main couple’s wedding.
WARM ON A COLD NIGHT I loved the ML actor’s other drama Double Love and I am glad he is here again on WOACN. He is no ordinary man here, he’s a prince and only heir of their race, with shapeshifting abilities, super keen senses and supernatural speed and strength. Spoilers available below:

It became more heated between them towards the end once they became more intimate, but it was a slow burn drama. The one thing I liked was the way the ML treated the FL. He was a good husband to her from the beginning and an even greater one towards the end 😊
We have one rich, bossy older woman FL and a younger ML. She made a deal with her father that in order to inherit 80% of their family fortune, she must marry one of the three sons of the Gu family. She is a steamroller and there was no stopping her once she set her sights on the youngest son (ML). It is refreshing to see a very confident, suave, strong FL with no such inhibitions like keeping her distance or taking it slowly as they get to know each other first. She was frank with her husband that she intended their marriage to be normal right from the start and wanted to have a baby with him, then proceeded to seduce him at every opportunity. ML did not put up much resistance after a while since he easily fell in love with her. They have great chemistry together and the story is actually quite good for a bite-sized drama. I added this to my rewatch list.
