I thought this is a sequel for on of the recent blockbuster drama "Hidden Love" but Here only the name Sang yan…
It sets in the same universe. There are SANG YAN (as main lead) and his Sister (SANG ZHI) and friend (DUAN JIAXU) as supporting characters in The First Frost??
The writer of the novels (The First Frost & Hidden Love) is same.
She wrote Brother's (Sang Yan) side of story (The First Frost) after hl novel and the novel was veryy popular.
Sang Yan in hidden love is what Sang zhi sees him (silly annoying big brother) from a sis's POV.
While he's actually a different person in the First Frost basically how Wen Yifan (his beloved) sees him (calm and cool person) and how exactly he's.
It explains how a person can have different personality or perceived differently from their family and friend POVS.
In HL, they didn't show his partner. We can watch HL or TFF independently, without watching the other one. It's not particularly a sequel, but a completely different story
But sure you can find easter eggs if you've watched both dramas...like why Sang Yan was at certain place/city or did something in HL or TFF. Because character background/famliy is same. So it's not particularly a sequel, but a completely different story sharing same universe...happening in the parallel timeline as hl.
Also, Sang Yan's sister here IS Sang Zhi?? And Both Sang zhi and Duan Jiaxu are in the first frost as well supporting characters?? They've appeared a few times already, even in ep 1 as well.
But if you're talking about why Sang zhi and Duan Jiaxu characters are not played by same ACTORS as in hidden love..., because Sang zhi and Duan Jiaxu are only as supporting characters in Sang Yan's First Frost, so they can't cast top main actors for playing supporting roles.
