It wasn’t a bad drama, but it could’ve been better. The beginning was so slow that I almost dropped it, then…
I felt the same with the main cp in the beginning. Idk I really didn't like the comedy for the most part. It felt weird and forced. But I did eventually come to like them in the future eps when it became more serious and they began to grow as a cp. The comedy toned down too and I was finally able to laugh and not feel awkward watching them for the most part lol. We are different about Situ Ling. I did like him b4 he became evil, but him becoming evil for love realy wasn't it for me. It felt cliche but also OOC, not to mention this didn't happen in the novel. He could've just stayed as someone who admired her. He had to understand that love can't be forced - not to mention he should've learnt this when Fuyue experiences the same thing with him. But overall, just like you, it's a decent watch for me. I didn't feel so attached to the characters but it is enough for me to watch. But anyways respect to your opinion! :)
For those who get reminded of FoF (beware bc I am a huge fan of the drama), maybe it's how:
- both MLs flirt with everyone and does a lot of teasing, but have also gone thru a lot (do they mask themselves thru this outward personality?) - it starts with case-solving - one enters a dream / illusion at times - a male character who was once close to the ML now has a deep grudge against him and has become evil due to it (and wants to kill him) - always separated atm despite their past (I feel in FoF it's even deeper as they were the closest two growing up together for thousands of years) - male character who has a grudge against ML has a female character that loves him (much preferred the one in FoF tho lol thought she was much cooler, and these two actually cared about each other) - both have lots of bromance and friendship where you can ship anyone with someone else - we got a side story arc of two characters who were very close but ended in tragedy—WoF is btw basicslly two soulmates (guys) while FoF is btw lovers—setting up for what's to come in future eps - many lightheartedness in between (a good balance of it and angst) - both are xuanhuan in some way - you question if it's xianxia but they're not at least entirely - little to no romance at all - two girls in the friend group (one is a good fighter, other is good at other things than fighting), a little more guys in the friend group - fun adventures (there was even a snow one in FoF but was sooo heartbreaking actually) - many people hate the ML and want him dead bc of a rumor, but it isn't what the main lead would be wanting/wanted to actually do - let's see how the drama ends but I won't be surprised if the kind of ending is similar
I am seriously loving all the adventures in this drama. It's so much fun and I am never bored while watching this. I am obsessed! Def drama of the year for me so far! I also can't wait to see Chang Huasen now finally yessss!!
Just started watching this. A few episodes in and this reminds me strongly of Fangs of Fortune. Anyone else has…
I see plenty of ppl say the same thing. And I can see why. No wonder FoF and this are in my top three dramas ever so far lol. I think this one has a better executed storytelling, tho I dearly love both!
Why r ppl so annoyed by female characters so often even when they aren't even that bad... Like why complain about her interference to "unnecessarily" save him? Really? That makes her useful... yet you complain she has a lack of skills... Well, maybe she isn't like those who can physically fight but she can do some useful things in the group if you've watched enough.
Frrr omg Yu Sifeng and Tantai Jin are smth else when it comes to love... not to mention they prob have the most blood-spitting out of every drama out there LOL these two actors are srsly good at playing emotional and lovesick characters 😩 But you're right... the L&R is a lot less toxic despite the misunderstandings (which, after my rewatch, didn't actually get so annoyed anymore bc I could understand where all of it was coming from lol), and which I say is more of a heartbreakingly beautiful kind of love story.
absolutely do not trust the comment that drama is better and just try the novel yourself, as someone who doesnt…
Sorry I meant Zheng Tiao. From what I gathered he may have been the SML in the novel. Sadly he doesn't have much of a relationship with the characters when he obv did there at least with Ji Bozai.

I find this drama okay but yeah it feels cliche too and doesn't feel that unique but still a decent watch. Seems like I would prefer the novel if I took a read at it based on how you described it.
In the drama, I really don't like how they made Situ Ling evil here, like thinking back at what kind of character he was, he didn't seem like the person who would actually turn evil but instead resist it. And to think he actually wasn't even a big role in the novel and didn't become evil actually... Oh, this is such a terrible change they did tbh. I heard he took up all of Zheng Tiao's screentime who was the second most important character? Like jeez, why not give us him? He looked like he'd be a more interesting character to watch.
Anyways, yeah, Situ Ling's love obsession to becoming evil felt forced and cliche to me. Why even become evil due to your obsession for someone oof I hate this trope. It should've just stayed as admiration to her and no going over boundaries...
Did y'all listen to the characters' theme songs? If you're wondering who sings what, you can look at the order of the casting (for the smaller support roles, it's only Gui Mudan and Furen that have theme songs)... I am really amazed 🥹😍
I was just looking thru the photos and stumbled upon this one of someone we haven't met yet... so I looked it up and what do you know... it's Richard Li! He's GORGROUS omg I'm so excited to see him 😭😭
Well, we can see in the flashbacks that Fu Zhumei is a great cook. And then Tang Lici makes a "foodie map",…
Oh goodness okay... I also learnt that he didn't seem to have actually died yet... wonder what he's up to now... making me nervous lol but lookibg forward to seeing him again?
Isn't that dude still alive thou..I just assume he is and not gone psycho on TLC and is ignored by the basket…
Shoot, you're right. I rewatched the beginning of ep 2 to confirm this and Liu Yan only said "Zhumei vanished without a trace" which I missed, bc when he said that it was the only two of them (Liu Yan and Tang Lici) that remained, I assumed that he died whoops. Okay, well, I can't wait to see him again in the future then (hopefully)...
Does anyone get curious as to why we only see Tang Lici and Liu Yan sad over Fang Zhou's death when Zhumei was also a part of the Zhou Di Lou Tower? Why are they not thinking or grieving at all over Zhumei? Do you suppose there is anything mysterious about this, and about Zhumei at all? I am really curious about him tho (esp as a Xia Zhiguang fan lol) but I'm guessing he isn't so important to the plot? I find it strange tho that with Zhumei as one of the disciples, he isn't at all talked about. Like where did he go and how did he supposedly die? Is it just bc of the massacre, that's it? I wanna see the scene of his death for the answer lol...
Edit: Okay maybe he's not dead which I misunderstood on my part lol which is a bit mysterious let's see...
Also Chang Huasen, Xia Zhiguang, and Lu Xingyu (tho all guest roles haha)
Haha yes I can't wait for u to watch it! Maybe you should watch it soon after Blood River since these two timelines overlap? 🥰
And yes I hope they will start giving us more news for TBOY season 2. I've been waiting for nearly two years now 😩 Maybe early next year they will updatr us? Hopefully 😭
Also Chang Huasen, Xia Zhiguang, and Lu Xingyu (tho all guest roles haha)
Yes, he's actually one of the biggest support roles! You really should! I loved him there! He's one of the ML's friends :) You see them talk about Baili Dongjun, Ye Dingzhi, and Sikong Changfeng, right? Baili Dongjun (the ML) is friends with them both.

- many lightheartedness in between (a good balance of it and angst)
- both are xuanhuan in some way - you question if it's xianxia but they're not at least entirely
- little to no romance at all
- two girls in the friend group (one is a good fighter, other is good at other things than fighting), a little more guys in the friend group

I am curious about Chang Huasen's character too and what kind he will be, we will see!
