I'm not sure I'd call it underrated at all~ Maybe internationally? Tho I never really looked into it tbh. It did become really popular esp in China and is considered one of the xianxia classics! Truly deserved! (I think Eternal Love, Ashes of Love, and this are considered the xianxia classics - it's smth I have read a lot in random places). I know many find the FL annoying tho which ig makes this drama so unbearable for some, but honestly, she was realistic and I could understand her actions (tho frustrating at times) which is what made me love her. Honestly, the love story between the leads is so beautiful yet also emotionally moving and heartwrenching - their love story is truly one of the most if not most epic xianxia I've watched, and considering it was my first one, that says a lot. Gotta give it to the two actors bc they portrayed their characters really well! Ahhh, I will never forget this drama. It's really special.

Agree! I looove the drama, but I would've rated it a bit higher if the acting was a lot better. Still rated it high bc I absolutely loved the drama. I think the ML's acting is a bit more distracting and pulls me out more - I think about how he could try to sound and look more natural in his talking and acting. FL is better but could still really improve as well. Heck, even the second cp is much better at acting. Gotta say, they take the spot for my fave cp in this drama actually xD I have to esp praise Lu Yuxiao bc wow... she played this difficult role so well and naturally!

I can't help but laugh seeing Bai Shu here SKJDKSJSKS he reminds me so much of Tengshe / Lord Flying Snake in Love and Redemption, his most iconic character imo 🤣 Nice to see him so sassy again, not to mention he has white hair too hehehe

Person below told me that it seems like he isn't actually him. Tho from someone else's perspective that knows Yique Yinyang, they look the same... which confuses me. We will find out more ig later on~

But dang, that's confusing the way you put it as only 4 years since Ruofeng's death in TBOY, bc wasn't he like the same age as Xiao Lingchen on his death? If we see his death here, it's still gonna be Bai Shu we're seeing. Timeline makes this very confusing. I thought the gap might be like 20 years, more or less.

Yeah it honestly will prob happen in the drama bc they're alr discussing it early on in the drama. And it's a good thing if SCH wasn't involved~ Happy about that. I can also recall a bit of what Ruofeng did in DY but not exactly. I think at least he wanted to separate those two or prevent Wenjun from leaving indoors? Idk lol can you jog my memory a bit? He def was better in TBOY for sure.

And when you mention karma~ But then when you think about the emperor who lived long and was even worse imo. I think he should've gotten his karma early on too~ 🫠 But anyways!

For those who watched The Journey of Legend, do you recognize the actor of Fang Zhou? He was such an annoying one in TJOL... and it's so refreshing to see him here as the opposite. So loving, gentle, and kind. Anyways I'm looking forward to seeing more of the story behind his death 💔

Yes. If you recall the assassin organization called Dark River, it's about them. I highly rec watching. It's so good! Btw this is a prequel of TBOY so if u recall some of the history there and some characters too, you'll see them here and they're younger this time.

Also idk if you know but Dashing Youth is also in the same universe which comes first b4 this one while TBOY is their sequel / future generation :)

Okay. Well you don't have to be disappointed in the rating. I'd say it doesn't justify how good this actually is.

I will say this drama is really nice. I don't have much complaints so... I will share my other opinions and give you questions to ask yourself.

Do you mind CGI effects during fight scenes? I find them quite s refreshing addition to this wuxia drama.

You interested in watching assassins as main characters and what it is like BTS of these assassins, the conflicts within them, complexity of being one, etc.? You like brotherhood / bromance, a strong one btw the two main characters?

Have you watched the director b4? He's got many great dramas out there. He's really great at capturing the mood of the drama and letting us feel it imo. The cinematography, coloring, effects, are really good for this kind of drama. The coloring is unique, not smth u see often, which I absolutely love. Oh, and the martial arts scenes r truly one of the best I have seen so far (at least for this year). Done super well. I think you'll be amazed?

If you like Gong Jun, then u should def give this a shot. It's prob next to become one of his best works. I think you will also come to love the SML, Chang Huasen, in this. He's a very complex and interestingly written character. Not to mention an amazing actor who portraya the complexity of his character so well!

I guess one thing that got a LITTLE boring (tho ngl it doesn't last for too mwny eps) is maybe how much dialogue there is. Well, I think at the same time it fits in with the narrative of the drama and to capture every moment of what might be important to the overall story so maybe it's not such a bad thing.

Ppl who have watched the donghua also said this is done so well, even better, as they cover the depth of the relationship btw the MLs in this more.

I don't rmr much from TBOY maybe it's bc it was one of my very first costume dramas. So I rmr being confused but still enjoying and loving it at the same time LOL... I didn't even rmr a lot of fates that happened, but the one thing I can't forget is Xiao Ruofeng aka Prince Langya. And the fact that they are now covering this history in this drama. Ppl just wanna kill him, not to mention behead him which really happened to him. I won't lie... I actually feel quite sad for him. I like Su Changhe but him trying to kill him made me feel sad for Xiao Ruofeng (I get him tho, he's willing to do just about anything for Su Muyu even if Su Muyu wouldn't want it at all oof). Iirc Bai Shu's character in TBOY wanted to bring the truth to light behind his killing and they nailed it there. So watching Ruofeng here makes me sad lol. I bet we are getting his death in this drama since we are alr getting ppl who want to kill him. As for who did it, I can't rmr exactly of it nor the full story about it, but that his brother at least was a big / main part of it, so I'm excited to learn how the history falls into place thru this drama. It looks like the Shadow Sect want to do it as one tho so...

You are not alone... I felt the same exact way as u and I usually never feel for characters this much when they die so early, but Tang Rou? Oh, he really did smth to me... I was hoping he'd come back eventually and ofc lost all hope... it made me so sad not seeing him anymore but also very touched when Qiushui never once forgot about him... 😭 As yk the saying, when one is missing from a group, it won't feel the same anymore and maybe even empty. Truly felt like it in this drama 🫠🤧
