I think for the stability of their family and because he’s behaved so badly they want TK to be the legal father. As for JH’s right to the child…being a biological mother or father or legal guardian or just someone who loves the child doesnt mean they are good to or for the child. What about the child’s right to a safe and healthy childhood? Since one is an independent adult who could modify their behavior but chooses not to and the other is a dependent child who is still developing, the weaker child’s rights take precedence over the adult. Case and point: post being threatened and terrified while pregnant into running away, YD reassessed her bad choices and tried to find a middle ground. She told JH she was willing to let him have a relationship with Haneul and instead of engaging in that plan to build a relationship, he demanded to have things only the way he wanted them and escalated the conflict. Babies are cute but as Haneul gets older and develops her own identity, I have little faith in his ability to rationally discuss any thought, feeling or action she may have that he disagrees with. He’d deny anything about her he doesn’t like for his own convenience just like he does with YD. Thats a bad
parent.

Im guessing its a combo of our cliffhanger ending, people who don't like the differences with the book and people who wanted a totally romance focused with no family drama type plot.

Like JohnGotti said, it follows the first books ending. A second season is confirmed so barring a big change we should get the follow up happy ending when the boys are adults.

Its an identical ending to the first book. It is sad and open; however, since there is a second book where everyone is fine and they get married at the end its just a question of if you want to watch the stressful cliffhanger and wait for season 2 or save episode 24 until season 2 starts. Either way you can pretty much watch up to episode 22-23 and have closure on this arc of the story.

Gaslighting someone into believing they have a mental illness so you can control them is a wrong whether a shortsighted legal system recognizes it as such or not. His other controlling behaviors are really bad too. That causes far reaching emotional and psychological scarring. Physical sexual assault is a crime committed most often as a desire to exert control over another person. This is just the emotional and psychological version. It should be criminal. They did a really good job displaying text book behaviors associated with a abuse. Whether he hit her or not, he tried and for a time succeeded in imprisoning her in his world by making her think she was the problem. The damage that alone causes can effect people for a lifetime. And anyone displaying these behaviors is walking a very thin line that often does evolve into physical abuse.

To each their own. I respected that she was a very young person who had learned one way to survive her horrible family that included clever dissembling, acting weak etc. She survived the way she knew how and it worked really well. Later when she encountered a person (GJ) and family different from her own, it took her a while to adjust, but she loved her new life and freedom to really be herself. I honestly would have probably had more self pity if Id existed in that culture and encountered that scenario (her shitty family followed by forced marriage to guy who said hed divorce me the first night and than ran away to a brothel). She’s not a spunky for no reason FL. She’s also not a confident to the point of stupidity FL. Those really annoy me. Sorry she wasnt your cup of tea. I also like that this was a coming of age family drama set in the midst of a civil war. I do agree they cut out alot that made that balanced in the book.

I think they were going for spoiled to the point of having no sense of proportion or reality. I like that he lost everyone who loved him in the end and now will suffer being alone in a way he never did before. He has no family left because he was too spoiled to value them as he should. If we touched base with him in about 20 years its 70/30 on whether he overindulged himself to death or has become a sad philosopher grieving the mistakes of his youth. Given how lazy he is, Im guessing overindulged. Way better than him being a psychopath. He was not a fun character to read about.

Yes it is. Spoiler: They played off a scene in the book where she drank poisoned wine and the emperor immediately revealed it wasnt poisoned. He just wanted to prove her loyalty and use that to suppress the dowager Empress. In the show they skip a bunch of stuff from the book by saying they faked her death so GJ can cement his standing while she works on a secret task for the emperor. Which in the book they accomplished both those goals together however that would have added like another 20 episodes. Their separation is sad. But she’s not dead.

He wasnt actually lazy. He was infected by one of the shadow pieces of the bad guy and lied to her about it. He thought he was protecting her. Her death was her way of motivating him not to give up.

After he was destroyed she went to mortal realm to find all the broken pieces of his soul and help him heal. Took her years, and she even raised his mortal form that had no idea who he truly was. He does eventually find all of himself and reascends to the immortal realm where they live happily ever after. Wouldn’t quite fit with the changes they made but this kind of matches that spirit.

Its aired internationally only so it can bypass alot of the censorship.

Im a book reader. The way they compressed and redid the later arcs was really well done considering they fit three and a half arcs into 10 episodes. There are a lot of deaths in the last 10 episodes that are significant. However, only three are for characters we know well. I recommend watching. It has one of the best happy endings for the main leads you can find.
