There are changes to their family dynamic and character designs that I enjoyed because they deepened the characters. The boys relationship in the book was heavily sexual and felt very toxic to me. There was rape in their relationship as well as even scarier levels of possessive control. There are two books. This first season of stay with me covered the broad-strokes of the first novel. It did add its own elements and changed the focus from just the boys. Which worked. Their world feels more rich and alive. The only thing I felt lacking was they didnt show enough of the deepening romance and physical affection of the boys. There are plenty of shows with sexy and healthy relationships. But in this show since they were trying to be true to the events of the novel, the lack of many of the book sexual scenarios being shown may have contributed to their relationship seeming healthier in this version. You can find the books online. Look up “Are You Addicted?” Honestly, I skimmed a great deal of both books because of my discomfort with the toxic aspects of their relationship. But alot of people love the books. You may too. Yes, the cousin is a character in the book.

Its aired only internationally so they can get around censorship.

Aside from refocusing elements of the plot, expanding upon the family members, changing their names, and removing a bunch of sexual assault they followed book one. Even that cliffhanger.

What is your definition of BL? What would you have liked to see? I understand why you think it wasnt. It was not clear and it did leave things flirted at more often than not. I spent half the drama concerned we were being baited. But what did it need to be or have to qualify?

The whole primodial spirit being injured due to the reincarnations thing isnt in the book. The lifetimes were a punishment. The only reason Chu Kong was hurt and his primordial spirit broken was because of confronting the big bad in the sixth life. She spends the seventh life fixing it. This whole set up is brand new and completely unpredictable if you use the book as a guide.

Laugh every time they cue you with the mischievous musical theme that one of the kids is up to something. Rewatch episode 22 a couple times. And look forward to season 2.

I shared your discomfort and worry for the actors and production staff. Had to keep reminding myself its aired internationally only so they should be okay. No guarantee it will be more upfront or confident in its depiction next season. But my hope is they’ll be more clear and explicit in season 2 when the characters are adults not late adolescent children. A huge factor in how this was so inexplicit is likely homophobic censorship but there is also the issue of a cultural prejudice against showing high schoolers having serious relationships. So there is a tiny bit of hope that the adult half of the story will be more confident.

Watch to episode 22. Its happy up to there. It ends on the same cliffhanger as book 1. Book 2 has a happy ending. So the show is a sad cliffhanger but the story is not.

I dont think they were. But they slept in same bed so the show could very easily do a kind of reveal. It could happen. It just doesnt seem likely.

It technically is bromance first few episodes. But it needs more descriptive tags.

But joy to life S2 is coming out this year. So there is hope. Just a big delay before satisfaction .

If you want perfectly happy, stop at episode 22 and wait to watch the last two episodes when the second season starts to air. That being said, the last two episodes are very good and have some sweet interactions. It just ends on a cliffhanger following a pretty intense twenty minutes of a tragic accident that may have killed one of the boys. (We know it didn't because of the books, but its not confirmed he lived in the show yet) they never show them kissing on lips. Just cheeks. There is one moment when WB leans over SY like he kissed him on the lips. We only see back of WB’s head.
