No need to rush to catch up. The important thing is to have fun! And be happy you have a lot of episodes to watch…
You can watch it like you would do with every other series. If you think about it, we usually start a series that we don't even know how many episodes it will get or even if it will continue.

Also, the anime after a point has a really slow pace because it's constantly close to the manga. If you skip the intro and the recap it's only 15mins or less of content.

You can skip the fillers too. There aren't that many but some are actually quite good.

You can also change to reading the manga when you feel the pace is too slow .

I have put in a spoiler the wiki link to the anime guide.

Does the story start off the same in the anime or should I watch the anime first to understand this?
It covers the story from the start. You don't need to watch the anime to understand this. If you like it you can then check the anime. Have fun!

The expectations for a successful live action were pretty low and despite the flaws that it has this turned out to be really enjoyable so i think that's the main reason for this rating.

Don't let the number scare you off. They will go by fast! You can start it like you would do with every other series. If you consider that usually we start a series that we don't even know how many episodes it will get or even if it will continue. At least here you have enough episodes to watch without the weekly or monthly waiting for the next.

Yes, it's done in a way that has kept the important parts but changed enough to feel like something fresh so even existing fans can enjoy and discover something different and not just be a rewatch.

sorry I'm new here!! this 8.7 rating is about the story, acting or the just the visual of (roronoazoro)?
It's an overall score.
I think in general rating is quite subjective. Every person rates with a different reason. It's the same for all series.
Some might rate it by focusing on the story, acting, execution, visuals, music, emotional beats and connection they might feel, the technical aspects etc. and some based on just how much they enjoy it despite any flaws it might have.
Try checking some of the comments and the reviews that have a break down score to Story, Acting/Cast and Music and you will manage to get a better view why people liked or disliked the show.

Who is Halempo?
He was much more likeable here! He and Koby got more screentime and we were able to see their development more.

If for some reason you find it hard but you are curious about it there are some specials (Episode of East Blue and Episode of Nami) that have the highlights but it's really worth watching the anime from the start. Especially, since they made some changes to the story but that only means you will have something different to discover in every arc and enjoy it twice! 😁

I loved it. Anyone knows who is the villain at the ending scene of this season?
Actually, he is not a villain but more of an antagonist.
He is Smoker, a Marine with the rank of captain in Loguetown, where he made it his mission to capture Luffy.
He is really strong but declined any promotion like Garp so he can do things his way and decided to stay in Loguetown an island before the entrace to Grand Line in order to prevent upcoming pirates from even starting their journey there.

To give you an idea a rough guide to Marine ranks is:
1. Fleet Admiral (Garp declined this promotion in this Live Action)
2. Admiral (Garp declined this promotion in the original)
3. Vice Admiral (Garp)
4. Rear Admiral
5. Commodore
4. Captain (Morgan, Nezumi, Smoker)

Note: Garp is one of the strongest in the original. He was going easy on his fight with Luffy.

How much they cover in 8 episodes Any idea?
Yeah, for example there is an abridged movie retelling of the Alabasta Arc of only 1.2h (though they cut so much that you can't really view it as standalone) and they could do something similar with the other arcs too.

Also, some arcs like Skypiea or Thriller Bark could have their own seasons or be minimized to only a few episodes.

But I am not a big fan of cutting too much just to get to the next part.
All arcs contain important information for later and part of the fun is seeing the adventures of the crew. Arriving to an island, exploring and slowly discovering the secrets it hides until the end where all the pieces come together as a puzzle.

We will need to wait till s3 to see how much they are willing to cut.

For those who want to know:-S2 is already in production. There's a leaked poster also where "Smoker is holding…
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation for s2 yet.
Loguetown Arc and Smoker were supposed to be in this season but probably due to budget reasons the initial 10 episodes were reduced to only 8. The might have decided to include him as a teaser for next season (if it comes) since they already had the actor.

I think it's worth at least checking these from the anime:
Zoro vs Mihawk & Zoro's vow:
Episode 24

Nami's story arc:
Episodes 31-45 or Special: Episode of Nami (Abridged retelling)

I have created a discussion ' Manga & Anime Guide ' with what manga chapters and anime episodes this season covered. Not sure why it doesn't appear in the front page but it's there if you click the discussion.
