Just finished episode 40 and I can't believe this heartbreaking, but beautiful journey is over.
Did this drama have its flaws? Yes, as all dramas do. Was it heartbreaking and emotional? Definitely. Was it still an amazing drama? Absolutely.
Incredibly well acted, visually stunning and absolutely mesmerising.
Luo Yun Xi and Bai Lu were perfectly cast in this. From the beginning to the end, I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Not only their acting catches the eye, but also their undeniable chemistry. The unfortunate by-product of this is the fact that the other couples pale in comparison. Add to that the fact the the other two couples didn't really get a lot of screen time to develop into anything noteworthy and you have one of this dramas small flaws.
I think it's very telling and one of this dramas most important lessons, that all the 'evil' that Tantai Jin has done was never initiated by him, but a direct result of everyone around him expecting bad things from him and trying to stop them from happening before he even thought about doing anything in the first place. That's what happens when you see the world in black and white. The immortal sects with the exception of a few truly wise and kind characters (Zhao You and Qu Xuan Zi) deal in absolutes. Their true hypocrisy shows once they actually have to make a more difficult decision or they see just how much they will end up losing. The fact that even though they are supposed to be enlightened and hundreds of years old, they are still sheep that are pressured by crowd mentality and end up causing more harm than good. It's only all laughter and games when there are no threats.
Everything else aside, I really loved following the main couple's story. Both have suffered unimaginable pain and loss. Heartbreaking as it was, there was something very pure about their love. I never hesitated watching this even though people have talked about its sad ending, because I always consider the journey I take with the characters and the ending as long as it fits into the story matters much less. Unfortunate as it may be, some stories do require a sad ending. After finishing the drama though, I wouldn't call the ending sad. At most, it seems to be incomplete. Based on the last montage, it looks like Tantai Jin will be able to return/reincarnate and this time without an Evil Bone and maybe even with his own Divine Essence. It looked like part of his spirit is recuperating in the Heart Scale. If this is the part he used to repair the Heart Scale in an earlier episode, that would mean that this part of his spirit contains his kindness, warmth and love for the world. The purest part of his soul. When he's reborn this time around, he will be reborn as a blessing to the world instead of a threat. At least that's how I choose to interpret it.
Given how much MV and GYJW scenes were cut, they might as well be totally removed from the immortal arc. Hahaha..…
I feel like I would've been more invested in the story of YBC and XL if we had seen more of them together. The scenes they shared together were almost non-existent. If the two shared more chemistry together, it might have still worked out. Add to that, that I didn't really like either of their characters and whatever we got to see of their story sort of disappears in whatever else is going on in the drama.
No offence to Deng Wei and Chen Du Ling, but I feel like the story would not have changed much without the presence of their characters. Both did a good job portraying the characters they were given, but separately his character was boring and her character was stupid and irritating and together their story and relationship was not in any shape or form interesting and they didn't really share a lot of chemistry. They didn't really stand out much individually or together and since the story is heavily focused on the main characters, their presence is rather forgettable.
In that sense, Pian Ran and Ye Qing Yu were luckier. They also had limited screen time, but both stood out indvidually and together. Pian Ran was lively, carefree and confident. Qing Yu was brave and straightforward. Their playful relationship however brief was cute.
The more I watch the more the very existence of the Demon God seems sad and painful. None of his incarnations seem to be completely evil as everyone is expecting. They are just beings that have suffered too much just because they have been born from the sins and the pain of the world. The Ancient Demon God seemed ruthless, but at the same time his goal of destroying the world wasn't for the sake of destroying it. That was the only way for him to finally disappear completely and never be reborn, because as long as the world exists he is doomed to exist as well. The Demon God that was born from Tantai Jin's suffering in the beginning of the drama was looking for the Mirror Artifact that was rumoured to be able to change his fate. Both were suffering even when they were an all powerful and ruthless entity and were looking for a way to end the suffering. Pain that has followed them all their lives.
Li Susu's interference finally changed Tantai Jin's fate, adding some light in his dark life and he carried that light with him from then on. Even if it may have been just a tiny spark, it was enough to change the fate of the Demon God. Her love for the world resonated in him, resulting in him making a different choice that any other Demon God before him.
It's sad to see the rating go down just because of the ending. This is still a beautifully acted, visually stunning drama with an interesting story. Yes, it's tragic and heartbreaking, but not every story requires a happy ending. I'm currently watching the last arc of the drama, but even knowing that it has a sad ending, it won't change my appreciation for it and I'm glad I watched it.
My emotions exactly!! That episode and the next few were heartbreaking because she brought a hammer to put these…
Have you finished watching it? Should I binge watch the rest of the episodes or slow down? I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I feel like I should slow down, but at the same time it seems like I should opt for short pain and just watch the rest as quickly as possible.
I'm loving this drama, but the heartbreak can take its toll.
I need a therapy guys suggest some wholesome drama with HAPPY i repeat HAPPY ENDING not even open ending like…
I usually watch something cute and funny after a drama like this. You may have already seen it, but Romance of Tiger and Rose is a good therapy watch. The Eternal Love series can also do the trick.
Episode 26 had the saddest weddings I have ever seen and that was even before she started putting the spikes in his heart. I was on the verge of tears during the whole ceremony just looking at how happy Tantai Jin was. I also don't understand why she doubted him and his feelings. She had physical proof that he was in love with her because the spikes kept appearing. Why was she so sure that he was faking? How would he even be able to when she had proof in her own hands.
I binged 24 episodes in a little over 2 days and now I feel like I need to slow down, because I can just feel heartache coming.
I'm on episode 25 and I must say I'm starting to get disappointed in Susu. Did she forget what she was sent to the past for? What is she even doing at this point meddling in Xiao Lin's business. Also, why did she even leave with him in the first place? She could have just let him go by himself. Also, stop helping Bing Chang. By this point Susu should already know that she's a bad person. On top of the fact that she's not even her sister to begin with. Just let her slave away in the palace. Why is she giving her opportunities? Am I supposed to believe she's smart after she keeps doing stupid things?
Bing Chang wasn't even that bad for me. I feel like once you know she can do something awful, all her tricks are…
Exactly. Why even keep her around? Just get rid of her. She is annoying to look at and the other characters just letting it all go is irritating.
I must admit that there's one thing that I like. Most female villains are like Tian Huan. They do awful things, because they're obsessed with a man. So far Bing Chang has shown that the only thing she cares about is herself. Granted she's a psychopath and obviously a bad and selfish person, but I like that she's not bending over backwards to get some guy. She only cares about her own wellbeing and how to get it. The disappointing part is that she still seems to think that the only way she can be safe is by pretending to be weak and get protection from a man.
Is that aspect, I think the best female villain was Wu Huan from Ancient Love Poetry. All her life she pursued power for herself. She did many despicable things for it, but as a villain, I at least respected what she was aiming for.
I'm on episode 22 now and even though before I never liked Bing Chang for some unspeakable reason, now she has shown her true colours, I full on hate her. Also, what's wrong with Su Su. She went through the dream and saw what women are capable of, so why is she trusting Bing Chang. Yes, she may not be Tian Huan, but the tricks are still the same.
You’re in the majority on YBC, my friend. Most of us loath her.
I'm well on my way to hating her, but I'm not there yet. I'm assuming she will get worse or at the very least will show her true colours. So far, her gentle and kind facade seems so fake, I can't even look at her face. I feel like she's just a very selfish person and to be honest her love for Xiao Lin doesn't seem all that real either. I'm hoping for his sake that she does love him, but it just feels like she just used him to get a better life for herself. He seems like a good person, so I do wish for good things for him. Even though I still think he's a bit of a boring character. Sang You was more interesting to watch. Hopefully his experience in the dream of Sang You's life changes him a bit and makes him more interesting in the future.
Don’t worry, almost everyone on here hates Ye Bing- actually we call her Bitchang and you can guess why 😂
Based on your comment, she will get worse. I didn't get as far as to hate her yet, but I'm dreading what's coming. Given how unlikable her character is, I can see why people hate her.
