I agree 100% with amrita828s review. The show has an interesting plot, I love the journalism theme, even more…
Thanks for agreeing. :)
There's nothing lame about going "awww", that's actually what a drama with romance should do.
Lee Jong Suk can play the part of the besotted lover very well, I remember the way he looked at Jun Ye Seo in My Prettiest Moment and even in the brief space of a 1-hour special, dealing with a sort of prohibited love, he managed to convey the feeling as though he were really in love.
Like you, I didn't get it here, but I suppose everyone feels romance his/her own way. :)
I also agree on the ending: there was a lot of unnecessary angst resolved with a pretty pink ribbon in the last 5 minutes. Not my cup of tea.
I'm a lot more intrigued by Seo Jin's personality than Robin's. Robin is a nice guy, gentle, caring and lively, so there's no room for development, character wise. On a narrative level, Robin's too static and one dimentional. The true challenge is to have Seo Jin change, and in so doing, make Robin's existence superfluous.
its not imposibble to not compare this drama to I hear your voice.. why must be compared both of them..? there…
You are entitled to your opinion and to a critic, I accept that. :)
As for comparing the two dramas, if yours is indeed a question, I can easily answer: I have watched I Hear Your Voice before Pinocchio and having the same writer, same director, same lead actor, some of the same supporting cast, same Ost performers makes it impossible FOR ME, not to compare the two.
It's like reading two novels by the same author.
Very interesting article, a pity I haven't seen any of the dramas mentioned here, lol.
My iconic moments are somehow very different from the type you chose. The scene I'll always remember are little details, almost mundane ones
1. the group of ajummas watching a drama on their hospital bed in Reply 1997
2. Lee Jae Ha's trembling hands on the railing upon hearing about his brother's death in King 2 Hearts
3. Sam Dong touching the loudspeaker to "feel" the sound in Dream High
4. Kim Joo Won standing on his terrace while the titles of the books he read appear superimposed - Secret Garden
5. Soo Ha watching himself as a kid screaming he's not a monster - I Hear Your Voice
I have others, but right now these are the most vivid in my memory :)
FINALLY!
Thank you a thousand times for this article. I'm so tired of reading the sort of comments you mentioned, now and then I'm tempted to boycott K-drama just because. I won't, because it would be me losing in the end, however, the constant raving can be quite self defeating. The more people rave about something, the more skeptical I grow. And I'm not the only one.
Aside from agreeing on the whole review, I too was somehow let down by the ending. To me, it was like a baloon being inflated for the duration of 19 episodes and instead of finally blowing with a loud bang, it rasberried in the air.
Very anticlimatic.
Another year where the male lead fans just vote because of a pretty face (vintage hint: Rooftop Prince)…I have…
I agree too. I actually DO think he's handsome, but it doesn't detract anything from his talent - and I'm way over the adolescent/hormonal phase, believe me.
Sadly, every time an actor rises a lot in popularity, as is the case of Kim Soo Hyun right now, he also gathers a lot more detractors. I don't remember anyone complaining about his talent when Dream High aired, for instance, and yet he was the best performers there. I too saw him for the first time in Will it snow for Christmas, and ironically I dropped that drama when the adult version of the leads took over, while I loved the first episodes..
A poll on the best drama in general always leads to a lot of needless exaggeration - no offence to anyone. It's obvious that comparing, say, Empress Ki to Witch's Romance makes no sense, it's like comparing Lev Tolstoy to Danielle Steele.
If regarded each in its own genre, however, probably all the dramas mentioned here have a right to be chosen as best. Since You who came from the Stars seems to be the major object of critics, I venture to say that it has to be viewed for what it is: a light romantic comedy. As such, it hit the nail on the head: it has a lot of fun, a lot of romance, lovable characters and a lot of fantasy. Unlike other dramas, it never had the PRETENCE to be something else, or something more. I personally respect that more than the nth makjang in disguise.
Does this makes it into the best drama of 2014? I don't think so, but I bet all the commenters/voters did not watch all the dramas listed here and are, like me, left to decide depending on their own personal taste and the few shows they did see.
woooow, so happy you loved it when you rewatched! i gave this drama a 10, eveytime that song played i cried!!!…
Thank you Abigaile. :D I love this comment thing on reviews, it's great to have a feedback on what we write, it makes the whole process of writing a review more challenging, hence more fun! :D
I'm so glad you liked it more the 2nd time around! I loved it the first time. Yes, the anti-procrastination message…
Thank you my friend, I'm glad you took the time to read it all - I tend to be a little too wordy. I'm also glad I decided to give the drama a second chance - not that I really disliked it the first time, after all I've always been a fan of Yamapi - but I focused on a lot of side details this time and loved them. Rei's grandfather (ji-ji) is a lovable riot and I had a great time finding recurring characters popping out of nowhere every time with either a different role or a different job, LOL.
Hugs! :)
What's with the remake monkey?
If they have to, I wish they would remake stories which were crappy in the original, not the ones I loved the way they were.
Unconvinced. :S

Clearly me and idols are two irreconcilable concepts. :P
