You know that I did consider the drama after you told me you were enjoying it enough - and then there's Lee Seung Gi in it, after all. BUT, the other day I saw this

and as you can imagine I freaked out, LOL. Not only the comparison reminds me of something I'd rather forget, but the tone pissed me off royally.
So I immediately went watching how you rated it and here I am, thinking of dropping it even before I start. ;)

Violet, I see you've finished Gu Family Book and rated it a 7.
I use the 7 when I recognize the thing has some value but didn't give me any pleasure, lol.
I wonder if it's more or less the same for you. ;)

My love for books goes back to my infancy, and my love for Asia is not much younger. My first Japanese book read per my own choice was N.P., indeed by Banana Yoshimoto, in 1990 (perhaps you weren't even born then, lol). Yukio Mishima, Abe Kobo, Yasunari Kawabata and the classics in general we had to study in high-school, so I can't say I truly enjoyed them as much as I would now. As for Ishiguro, I knew of his style with The Remains of the Day, which was also made into a beautiful film with Sir Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson. The jump to When We were Orphans, An Artist of the Floating World and Never Let Me Go was almost natural.
I also adore a few Chinese authors (but that's another story, lol). So no, dramas came A LOT later. ;)

Thank you so much for all the nice links, Nathaniel. :) I have watched Lady Oscar in the past and loved the instrumental Ost too. DN Angels' is very soothing too, mostly Caged Bird (I always prefer minor key melodies).:)
And I know what you mean with "loving" too many things, even when they seem so disparate. I believe art to be too varied and vast for us to just stagnate on one genre or style. :D
hahaha that was a great article!it's what makes drama even more funny to me. :D as for the clothes, I think they…
Yes, I've heard many say that he resembles Mizushima, although I find Renn much better looking.
Personally, I see a resemblance with Yamapi. And since I am VERY partial to this last, I'm writing while sighing all the time. <3
One day I'll write something about fangirling, lol. ;)

Hmmmm... When we were orphans by Kazuo Ishiguro, perhaps?
Not sure, but it may be, since he's one of my favourite authors.
If you want to start with something lighter but VERY Japanese, I suggest... Amrita! Haha. By Banana Yoshimoto.
She's the reason for my nick, among other things. ;)
Funny! Everything you mentioned boggles my mind every time I see it in dramas! Especially the running EVERYWHERE!…
Lately I rewatched Hana Yori Dango - the Drama of all Dramas - and had to laugh out loud at Makino running after... a plane! HAHAHAHAHA
The drama's priceless, if nothing because I believe it's the sum of all mysteries. ;);)

P.S. I have read Crying Out Love, In the Centre of the World last year. A masterful novel, written with a simple delicacy that is so distinctive Japanese. I see you loved the drama. Have you tried the book?

This is why I am not going to follow in your footsteps and watch Byakuyako or Soredemo.
I want to enjoy those when I am in the right mood, 'cause I'm sure they are both amazing dramas. :)

Soratobu aired its last episode 2 days ago: I'm waiting for it to be subbed. The rest is subbed and available.
Should you start it, don't be deterred by some weirdness in the first episode. Characters take form slowly but steadily, both on the screen and in the viewer's heart.
For the first time since a very long time I actually cried while watching a drama.
This said, I have noticed your changes, and I understand the need for renovation. A new love does not deny the older one.
Eita and materpieces go well together. I have tried to start Saikou no Rikon, but I put it on hold after the first episode. When I am not in the mood for something, insisting only serves the purpose of making me hate the drama in the end. Better for me to wait and be "ready" for something.
Ohh such a funny and full of truth article!! And I love the quote at the end by my favourite sherlock holmes book..…
It's great to meet so many Holmes's lovers.
While I am more of a Poirot type, I bow to Sherlock's intelligence and Doyle's writing skill. Hands down.:)
A very nice article. :)
I am truly glad someone paid homage to the usually badly treated second females.
Let me agree mostly with Na Yoon from Protect the Boss (she really has a charm of her own, you're right) and Jae Kyung from BoF, who was more of a victim of that crazy Jun Pyo than a real rival. ;)
Wow, what a great article. And so well-written! It makes me want a real copy of "The Book of Drama Mysteries".…
The book of ancient mysteries truly exists, while the Drama Mysteries one doesn't, I'm afraid. But you sure have helped writing one here with all the hilarious comments. :D
