FYI, the ending is tragic but the epilogue is happy and sweet. I know they filmed the epilogue as the true ending, so if they release it then it would be a happy ending for the leads. But for those who want a bad ending, they can just not watch the last part.

Me too! That's the main reason I like watching Asian dramas. But ever since K-dramas moved to Netflix, they're starting to air in seasons, which to me is not a good change.

I guess Asian actors don't like being tied down by super long contracts. They want to have the freedom to not reprise the role and do other roles if they're not digging the production anymore. It's really hard to talk them into doing the same show for so many years. And if the actor changes, the audience will no longer enjoy the show as much as before.

Chong Zi does find out that he was affected by the tears later on, that's why she forgives him.
I'm not sure if Zhuo Hao dies in the drama, but he doesn't die in the novel. We'll see how that turns out. In fact, he has the highest chance of survival out of the list of supporting cast XD

The Phoenix Tears was in the novel too. It wears off after a while, but during the time he lost his memories, he did some really awful things. So even after he remembers, it takes Chong Zi a while to forgive him. But she forgives people really easily, so it doesn't matter for the main CP. What's sad is the side characters that suffer, get injured or die in the process.

That's actually true. Censorship has been going backwards over the years. If Chong Zi was adapted 10 years ago, it would've been able to stick to the novel without any problems at all.

Sad to hear that the story was never finished. So many Asian dramas try to be like Game of Thrones but are never able to get actors committed to the project. K-drama Arthdal Chronicles was like that too. I wonder what's preventing them from shooting many seasons like American TV.

If I were Chong Zi, I would have had a 3 hour conversation with LYF to come up with our next plans and what to do in case it doesn't work out. Lol

I also don't get why they decided to adapt Chong Zi if they couldn't go all out with it. I haven't watched Tribes & Empires but I heard many great things about it. And yes, I've seen quite an amount of steamy bed scenes in C-dramas that have clothes on (or partly on) and they still turn out really well. I think if the actors have chemistry, even staring at each other from a distance is effective, but if they don't have chemistry, then even an intimate scene will not save it.

They probably had to censor it because it's a master-disciple romance. It's the censorship that's really narrow minded, but the audience would've wanted to see more.

I'm really frustrated about the censorship of this drama. I've seen way hotter bed scenes in other c-dramas.

They were planning to get married and elope in the most recent episode, it just got delayed due to the Phoenix Tears. So once LYF comes back to his senses, he will try to fulfill his promise with her again. The plan was to get her away from both the immortal and demon sect, so he can continue working on the Mirror Heart Spell until he can finally purify her evil aura.

They complete their marriage ceremony and live tgt as a married couple for some time, and then sth happens that causes them to have to confront each other in a final battle, and after that they live happily ever after. So it's sweetness followed by heavy angst and then sweetness again.

The writer of this drama cares a lot about her work. She even wrote several paragraphs on social media detailing the world building of her story, along with a description of the three different species of Qi and why the countries are in the relationship they are in right now. The world building is so good that this drama could easily get a season 2 if it is well received.

It doesn't seem like the humans have ever seen him, not even the royals. I assume he's always been a lone wolf and wasn't very involved with the affairs between the two tribes.

I guess he started having some feelings for her after their accidental kiss and when he realized she doesn't only touch him XD
His face when he saw her touching every Qi person she sees is priceless.

Okay, they gave me the bed scene I was waiting for. I will shut up and stop complaining about the rest of the show. I knew the Pheonix Tears thing was gonna happen, it was in the novel too. But they didn't consummate in the novel, so the drama is more tragic. I see that they're finally putting some strength on the angst that's long been overdue.

The Pheonix Tears don't stick to the end. It gets cured after some time. Once LYF realizes what had happened, it will drive him crazier. The leads will still have some happy time tgt before the ending.

In the novel, the Phoenix Tears wear off after a while.
In the drama, I don't think it will last till the end either, because there's a part where LYF and CZ escape to a place and live there tgt, and complete their marriage ceremony. That's before the final battle between them.
The third arc is basically about the leads loving each other to death on one day, and trying to kill each other the next. And then loving each other again. It's also where the drama version is a bit better (and also sadder) than the novel, because they made the leads consummate before him drinking the Phoenix Tears. In the novel, they didn't consummate and only kissed before that happened, so it wasn't as sad.

Heyyyy I also started watching this! The first few episodes were a bit slow and I had to do other stuff while playing it in the background. But now I'm on ep.7 and it's starting to pick up and get more interesting. The one thing I'm a little lost on is when and why the ML seems to be crushing on the FL.
