My first kdrama was City Hunter (like 10 years ago), so you can say PMY was the person who introduced me into kdramas! I then watched Sungkyunkwan Scandal, Healer and Remember. To me she had already been a veteran and one of the most well-known actresses at that point, so her becoming even more famous through WWWSK and Her Private Life made me really surprised.
squid game equals the most overhyped kdrama ever. there are better ones but locals got their hands on squid game…
Thats because a lot of international viewers don't have much exposure to Asian dramas to tell where this one sits among the rest. I live in Asia and people in my hometown all say that Squid Game is the worst drama in the survival genre. (They made comparisons with Liar Game, Alice in Borderland and Kaiji.)
Anyone who is thinking like me here about how it is super weird that the main lead back in real life aint exactly…
This is also one of my major complaints about the male lead's character. His so-called character development throughout the game is not real, because he is still the same person in his daily life. He was introduced as a person who had no commitment to life, was a letdown to his family, and even in the end he remained that way. Not that that's an issue by itself, but the consequent effect is that it causes his character to be unlikeable even though he is kind in the games. Another problem is that nothing about his character is helping him win the games. He's just winning by sheer luck.
Haha I understand this reference!! Lucky Romance right?
Oh, my bad lol. Didn't know he was ACTUALLY born in the year of the tiger. In the Lucky Romance drama, the character he played was born in the year of the tiger.
What do you think is the most possible outcome? I'm guessing that FL will try to go for either option 2 or sth…
“sad or bittersweet ending as long as it makes sense / is well written.” That's also my thought. I'd rather have a sad ending that makes sense rather than a happy ending that's forced and requires a suspension of belief. I think a lot of people started this drama with the idea that it will have a sad ending, so if it turns out to be a happy one, then that would be great, but even if it's a sad one, at least it's foreseeable.
I read the manhwa and I think there was nothing said about her becoming human, so they either changed the plot for the drama, or she is lying. But then, ML should be able to tell whether she is a human or a gumiho just by being next to her. Back in the joseon era, they walked past each other and immediately noticed the other party was a gumiho.
So there's no version of this drama where Tak Dong Kyung is actually going to wish for the world to end. Her only…
What do you think is the most possible outcome? I'm guessing that FL will try to go for either option 2 or sth similar to that, meaning that she will try to use her wish to protect ML and the world while letting herself die. But ML will go against that and try to save FL. They will be in a conflict, with some attempts of a noble sacrifice from both ends, and hopefully the deity will see their effort and become the deus ex machina that saves them both. Or they would go for a bittersweet ending where something bad happens but the leads are able to come to terms with it. I think the lesson that the story wants to give us is - learning to embrace despair in order to appreciate happiness, learning to accept loss to treasure what you have, and to accept that everything beautiful will end and that's what makes it beautiful. This is what the ML currently does not understand, which is why he hates his existence and thinks he does nothing but cause harm to the world. The FL is there to show him that life is still beautiful regardless of the bad things that can happen, and that destruction has its purpose because it's what makes good things "good". This could also have been deity's plan all along. She arranged for them to meet so that ML can learn to love his occupation.
My theory: - The normal way to retrieve the marble is by kissing the host, SWY knew this from the start but for some reason did not want to use this method on LD. I'm not sure why, but we knew from YHS that SWY has always been picky about his hosts and it might be that he didn't want to treat LD that way. - The marble becomes blue whenever the host develops feelings for the gumiho. It happened on SWY's past lover but unfortunately she died and SWY lost the chance to become human. He also became mentally scarred and gave up trying to become human for a long time. LD made him have hope again, that's why he wants to make her love him.
I was expecting the ML to scold / scream atthe FL after she went partying and got in trouble , most MLs in kdramas…
In the manhwa ML is suuuuper well-mannered. He's chill with everything, gives FL a lot of freedom, and is really gentle and caring. One of the best MLs I've seen tbh.
So far they’ve given justice to the webtoon. I’m surprised at how much they tried to replicate it frame by…
The manhwa got a bit draggy towards the middle half so I hope the drama version will try to add more content to it on top of staying true to what the manhwa already has
Ok I dont understand something, if the bead could kill her and he wants it back. Then what about the beads that…
From what I read in the manhwa, if a gumiho sucks too much energy from a person they can die, bead or no bead. Assuming that ML doesn't like killing people (he seems like a nice guy), I'm guessing he only took a bit of energy from each woman he encountered and left them alive. And since they didn't swallow the bead like FL did, ML could easily retrieve the bead whenever he wanted.
How old do you think Woo Yeo is? Not as a Gumiho since we know he’s 999 y/o but in his human form
I would assume late 20s or early 30s because he can easily pass off as an older sunbae at her school, or a young professor, meaning he doesn't look significantly older than her.
I'm a diehard SONE but tbh Yoona's acting still needs improvement. She did improve gradually over the years, but still not yet to the point where it blends naturally into the atmosphere. (What I mean by that is that when someone is good at acting, they no longer feel like they are acting. They feel real, and can make the audience forget that they are watching a work of fiction, but Yoona is like the opposite of that.) I still support her career tho, and I hope she can give me a surprise this time.
Unpopular Opinion: Frankly, the romantic tension is a bit too staged. The hand holding, out-of-the-blue cohabitation, and the "seductive" way that the ML talks to the FL is all pretty unfitting for the two as they haven't really grown that close yet. Although it's tempting to swoon over it, I feel like pushing the fan service this early will affect the momentum for when they do fall in love.
Are they Korean accounts? Are they Kbs or Kakaopage based? Are they promoting on a Korean social media app or…
You have a point. Then I guess it could've been the international streaming companies that bought the license to distribute the series internationally, since the ads seems to be targeting international viewers rather than local viewers.
I saw a lot of new accounts posting one-liner ads telling people to check out this show on the comments section of other dramas, and even on Youtube. Something like "there's a new Boys Over Flowers coming out" and then a link to this drama page. I'm guessing the company behind this drama paid people to do word-of-mouth advertising. But this drama is nothing like Boys Over Flowers so it's just hilarious to see.
