Behind the satire, the hot ML, and all the hat-blocked kisses — this show was secretly handing us a full-on…
Beautifully said. Also it delivers a message about not judging others before you get to know them, and how mindless hate and prejudice brings nothing but despair... and all that on top of being a comment on current drama landscape. I have no idea how they managed to put all those messages so tactfully in this drama.

I've watched too many C-dramas with unnecessary sad or open ending. I hope A Dream within a Dream will be a turning…
I wouldn't count on it, cause of the leaked iqiyi management meeting or sth from a few months ago, where they stated that giving dramas sad endings leads to more audience engagement 😭

100% agree with this theory. I only wonder whether NF actually had the mole, but under his other eye. I looked at other poster when he came out to his fans in ep 1 and there was a hint of the mole under his right eye. Not left like NH. But other than that everything fits!

I read friendship tag. Is there really some or is just romance?
The ML has a cute bickering relationship with his brothers-in-arms, who appear from ep 6-7ish. Pretty similar to squad from AJTL if you watched it.

I actually love how the character development for YM was slow. It allowed to focus the first part of the show…
My main fault with the show is the second pair of leads. I couldn't look the same at YT after the creepy assault scene. She never apologized, but demanded apologies from NH and SGH instead...

I actually love how the character development for YM was slow. It allowed to focus the first part of the show solely on NH's loneliness, trauma, and him slowly falling in love and showing trust to people around him. And then when his journey as a character was nearly finished, we could focus on YM's development. And it was very believable, she faced her traumas, thought hard about her worries, and then when she was completely comfortable with her decision, she went for it.

That's the thing I appreciate cdramas for - with 40 eps, it has the time to show the characters grow, fall in love, face any obstacles. If the ending was rushed, then maybe I would agree that the pacing should have been quicker at some parts, but the ending was perfectly paced for a cdrama! It was neither fast paced or sluggish just to fill 40 eps.

Also we got so much romance in the first part of the show, that I wouldn't say I missed it a lot in the middle part. I mean it wasn't the case of the Story of the Kunning Palace, when the FL was longer in love with 2ML that 1ML. We were well fed.

Title Mr. Queen
For anyone who is looking for transmigration to ancient times with hilarious comedy and ACTUAL happy ending, I recommend A Dream Within a Dream (cdrama). It actually healed my Mr Queen trauma after so many years.

They didn't hold back punches and even threw shade at their own drama. The ADWAD cast and crew filmed in the middle…
Whoa I didn't get that but it makes a lot of sense 🤣 why don't they just film it as it's summer, rain can be as tragic as snow 😭

Apart from its ending, I really appreciate the references they sent to the drama industry as a viewer of these…
This really is a multifaceted drama. I can't think of another one that has so many lessons and meanings in it. And all of that not even mentioning how it is basically a revenge for what happened during AJOL airing. Chef's kiss.

This is a story about having to get to know people before judging them. About taking initiative in your own life.…
The comedy level stays pretty consistent until episode 23ish, then it gets a bit more serious, but there are still a lot of funny moments until the very end 😊

question- is this a romance driven plot? or is it equally balanced?
This is a story about having to get to know people before judging them. About taking initiative in your own life. About dwelling in hate and never seeing the actual truth. But also about love, trust and friendship. So to answer your question - there is a lot of romance, comedy, action, and it's very well balanced.

This was just so perfect story to heal after two dramas that left me aching the most after their ending - AJOL…
So happy that they didn't spend time on what happened to the "real" SYM and NF. I didn't know them and don't care. I only care about NH and SQY. Wish they did the same in Mr Queen. Sigh.

They all die basically, but at the end there is a very confusing scene of lead's children (which they could not have if they died). So there are two camps, one claiming all died, and the children are just imagination, the second that they maybe survived.

This was just so perfect story to heal after two dramas that left me aching the most after their ending - AJOL and Mr Queen. Bravo to the creators. Such a high quality story doesn't come often. I am so impressed. Bawled my eyes out.

Sun Lang, I did not notice you were the screenwriter? But when I learnt it was you... Uhhh... You and Liu Ning…
This show is basically a revenge for what happened during airing AJOL. When I learned about it, it really opened my eyes that such a second layer has been included

SYM, LSL and CGH plotting Nan Heng's death was the best by far 🤣

I can’t wait for the moment NH greets him royal father instead of your majesty. I see the way the emperor gazes…
I read what happens, but for treating NH like shit for 19+ years he should repent for another 19 years at least 😤

I feel this way with cdramas overall, I would appreciate max 1 ep a day, I just can't keep up with this schedule 😭 not even mentioning that I'd like to savor it and maybe rewatch some eps while I'm waiting for the rest, it makes me love the drama even more

I really like it when a c-drama is based on an original script instead of a novel adaptation. That way, we as viewers…
Based on his livestreams, my guess is he'd say that if international fans want to see him, they should go visit China 😆😆 poor us
