And now I watched quite some dramas from various recommendations from MDL friends :D
I don't know much about how it is in China, and the background, but just from several of his performances and interviews I can tell he is an exquisite genuine well mannered person, and true performance artist displaying emotions and pulling the viewers in the plot effortlessly. That is art.
If he is not a superstar already he will be for sure.
It's because he behaves so mature, and can carry authoritative roles like Duke Su and Meng Xiao Dong. He was a perfect match in every sense to Wu Jin Yan. I also didn't even question his age, until I've read somewhere he is younger. It's almost unbelievable.
Imagine having a drama very similar to this one air just last year, you saw how certain things got received and…
Interesting point. I was thinking something alongside that. I hate amnesia plots. Like really? it's like a recipe: - 1 bad boy ML, but he gets mellow around episode 8, and there is nothing wrong with that, its just that it's the same character as the most MLs, and this is entertainment industry, we are trying to find some variety. - 1 smart FL, but tries so hard to being smart that ends up in various death threatening situations. None smart person in the world would do that. My logic just can't with this one. - 1 spy - just when they fall in love, so the things don't get to good to early, amnesia incoming
I also was crazy about KMLM until amnesia, and her moving to marry hostage prince. Lol. That just killed the drama. They should have ended it before all the hostage prince plot, it would have been 8.7 drama. I love the actors though. ML and FL actors are the only reason you stick through that script.

I thought my favorite performance of her is Love Like The Galaxy, and then this came with really high up. Amazing actress, some of the best FL performances are by her.
It's my comfort cdrama. Warm, emotional, and full of heart. I've rewatched it more than a few times already.
the scene where she tells him she was in love with him for long, and when she was sad at the airport it was because of him, His face.. one of the best scenes ever.
Amazing drama, top 5 for sure The drama - is special because it is romance between two ordinary people. They don't have super talents, superpowers. They have ordinary jobs. They are like you and me. You will soon realise theat you feel more for the show because of that. The plot is already unique just by that. - she fell first, he fell harder - the famous gege hao shuai scene that started a tiktok trend is in a 2nd episode of this drama. watch that if nothing else :) it is worth it. - the kind of love we look for in a drama. The kind of love you look for in your life. Wait till you get to the any scene where she tells him something important. You can come back here to comment it is one of the best scenes ever :) you welcome.
2nd couple is worth the watch. each of their scenes, so tense, you're thinking will they fall in love, kill each other, discover their secret plots, join forces... very intriguing couple. 2nd FL major red flag, 2nd ML a little less, still red flag.
But only if you have patience to fast forward the rest of the plot. :) you won't miss out anyway, 2nd ML carries the show.
I wouldn't compare them t Mr and Mrs Smith. Under that trope are dramas with physically strong FL, and bickering relationship, and FL has her own agenda as well. So although she is playing along with ML she does have ulterior motives, and they repeatedly outplay one another and are enemies for the large part of series. Couples like that are in drama Wonderland of Love and Are you The One.
But this couple has a charm of their own. Here ML starts of as red flag, and enemies to lovers is developed gradually. While FL may not be physically strong but more wise and smart and she is obedient ally/pawn to ML. Dramas in this trope: Love of Nirvana, Prisoner of Beauty, Kill me Love me Although among those Prisoner of Beauty, Love of Nirvana have more wifey FL And Princess's Gambit and Kill Me Love Me FLs are a valuable partner.
Ofcourse each of these distinctions have their own charm.
Yes, but its obviously not so easy to make a domineering ML and make it look smart believable, so not many made it on the list. Ling Buyi (LLTG) will forever be one of the favorite red flags :) Our left chancellor here is positioning himself on the list. We will see how it goes.
