I'm a super picky watcher, which is why I was pleasantly surprised to have enjoyed this drama so much. But, now I have post-drama depression and I need a rebound drama that HAS a happy ending. I need to believe that good things can happen in life, lol.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A HAPPY-ENDING TV SHOW WITH AN EXCELLENT PLOT ARE *very* WELCOME. Historical or modern-day. You can check my list to see what I might not have seen.
As it turns out the best thing about this drama was the thread.
I'm not sure what's more heartbreaking...the drama's ending, the drama being over or no longer commenting on this thread anymore. Either way, I have a hole in my heart right now and I need a rebound happy-ending drama. Recommendations welcome.
My heart broke for Tilan and the Emperor dammit Tilans brother is an ass. The ending wasn't really happy or sad…
It was bittersweet. I'm glad the main couple are both alive. I would have been pissed if one of them died. And I wish they gave Zhou Ying a crappy ending so our main couple could have a happy life in the woods together. What's frustrating is how UNNECESSARY that battle was, but it's very accurate of what war looks like. U necessary battles that cause serious damage.
sigh, yes, now that you mention it. Though that is typically used for loving someone and having that person spurn…
Exactly. They will always have each other, but they will never have a normal and boring life where they can be self-indulgent. By the time the boy is an emperor, it will be 20 years later and it might not be possible to have kids at that point. The whole situation is just not ideal and then with FJM recovering from the respiratory illness, who knows how long his life will be either.
My god Ti Lan and Emperor’s love story just has so much complexities and details. Im so much more invested in…
It was just HOW they died. I knew they were going to die but I didn't expect it to go down like that. I thought Tilan would die in childbirth while he was protecting her and he'd probably kill himself after, but no. Reality is way more tragic. It was shocking.
I dont know what i feel after finish watching this series. Its not like its bad coz u can tell that this drama…
The chemistry was there, but they censored a lot of it lol. And I really despise that the second lead couple got to be together in the end. Like who cares about them.
He's alive. He's wearing a mask again. The ending demonstrates that he's back to the person he was in the beginning and that he can't escape his bloodline's fate: serving the future emperor as a baixi and hiding his identity. The only difference now is that he's fully experienced love now and he's not afraid to let himself love anymore. And if this show has showed us anything, it's that nothing can stop Haishi and FJ from being together.
OMG the last ep was playing with my heart like a ping pong ball 😭😭😭
I cried so much. I've never cried so much for a final episode of a show before. Just surprised me HOW things went down. The performance of Xu Kai Cheng in the final episode was excellent. It was really well done.
Life is very often too sad, hard, and often frustrating to watch the same in a tv drama.
Agreed. I watch fictional shows and read fictional books and write fictional stories to escape the tragedy of life. Or at least rewrite the endings to a difficult life.
BUT, this drama is weird in the sense that it's not necessarily a sad ending or happy ending. It's bittersweet. It's both. Kind of like real life?
I've just got one question, did Haishi or Shifu die? I'm on the 6th episode, I put it on hold because I wanted…
They remain alive, but the ending is quite depressing. It's very unique because they will find a way to remain together no matter what, but their duty to Dazheng makes things complicated.
the ML and FL didn't die. they just have a love that they can't own.
Well said. I'm sure they're going to find a way to be with each other, but it's going to have to be a secret romance. It can't be the marriage they planned for their life. But they're still together in the end.
Wow. Pain. I've never cried so hard in my life at an ending. I loved this show, but I'm avoiding depressing ends for a very, very long time. My mental health can't handle them.
Oh..May be the director asked her to underplay it given her characterization..Did you particularly meant HS talking…
I get it. I think she has a nasal and thus "irritating" voice. You either like it or you just get used to it. I don't mind it.
I actually like how gentle and clean YM and WC's acting decisions were. As an editor, I love working with actors who give me the subtlest expressions. It's way more compelling to edit and tell a story that way. It means the audience has to work to figure out what the characters are feeling, which is similar to real life.

I think it's the voice dubbing that's throwing you off. Her voice actor in TMOPB really suited her face (which is a strange thing to say). Whereas, her nasally voice can be dislikeable to people. I think it's fine, though.
