I feel this is the show where i should be irked by ML and root for SML, if there is one. But i still am not, lol?…
I really don't get how ML is supposed to be toxic. The man is trauma-bound and it is actually better he rejects her than being a pisspoor partner unable to love her like she deserves it. Much better to make his boundaries clear, which is what he did toward her. Clearly, several times. Sure i wished he would have had addressed his trauma with professional help instead to hope to power through it on his own one day, but yeah. In every action with FL it shows his care for her, but the man is not able to recognize it as such due to his parents having screwed up his perception of love. So he misunderstood himself and his feelings the whole time as friendship instead, maybe even was unconscious drawing a line to not get into the cycle of hurting and being hurt. He is very emotionally unaware too due to that, neither in tune with his own feelings nor that of others. However, he never led her on in this time. As she says so haughtily to him later on: Manage your own feelings.
Also i really don't like how the drama is framing FL having feelings for him for ten years as though it is his responsibility and he guilty for it. One sided love is never easy or nice, but it feels very unfair to put the blame on him when FL should manage her own feelings, as said. Same is valid when he recognized his own feelings as love for her and that after she supposedly moved on, but imo she is needlessly cruel/vindictive about it and to him. Like A LOT.
I want to shake both leads by the shoulders and yell YOU CANNOT FORCE FEELINGS, but ESPECIALLY FL, who is just as emotionally immature as ML and keeps bringing up the ten yrs as a gotcha moment toward him. And that after he matured and made great strides in recognition of and sorting in his feelings and awareness of mistakes made and opportunites missed. Her telling him to take care of his own feelings then later on is especially rich given how she was and still is placing blame on him for not reciprocating hers for ten years. Not to mention the years of drunk calling to his line. Bottom line here is, they have both maturing left to do, but atm (episode 9) I see ML being far up in front there in this regard, trauma or not.
But in all honesty, everyone of them is a hot mess, SML included.
I feel this is the show where i should be irked by ML and root for SML, if there is one. But i still am not, lol? (SML is nice but so boring, geez) I feel this drama does not fit into simply rom com category MDL is so fond of, hence the low rating. The characters here are more complex and layered, there is no black and white only like people prefer it. Everything is more complicated and requires a lot of empathy for its characters to understand where they are coming from, ML in particular.
Collection of losers and b*tches without pride and common sense.... Bo Mi is the youngest, but till now she seems…
But that is the point of the drama and the character progression? Every of these very flawed characters starts off with misguided pride and misconceptions about how relationships should be, (with bora bullshitting her way through it with her nonsense easy fix tips for example.) But during this drama and its story they all learn that there is much more to a relationship and what it takes to be truly happy together. Namely trust, communication and respect, as you said. Heh.
I would also add authenticity to that list, because the leads never were that with their respective ex partners due to their pride pressuring them(selves) to keep up an appearance of perfection/distance, and thus never "let loose" around them. However, after several up and downs with seeing each other at their worst, they have learned to be themselves with each other, and from their past relationship mistakes. Which is why their (soon to begin) relationship will be a lot more mutually balanced and healthy.
We don't know if he went to that extent, there are things that were hidden in flashbacks or present time so I…
I think it would work for me when it were like in Welcome 2 Life for example. In which ML is also a corrupt lawyer stepping over people's pain and loss for personal gain, but through circumstances he wakes up in a parallel world where he is a righteous prosecutor and ppl who hated him before now love him. He also has to work hard for betterment/atonement and undo the pain he caused, especially once he is back in his "real world."
So unlike this ML, he feels the consequences of his actions asap, whereas here in this drama it is veeeery delayed through a jarring wholesome journey of healing and having a jolly good time, independent of that taking precedent. If it comes at all. Instead, it expects a lot of goodwill and trust given to a main character that has been shown to be cruel/ruthless and a potential murderer. Which yeah, is not good writing in my books, as nothing of his story arc of healing past wounds feels earned, so to speak.
The scenes with the twins were indeed cute, but due to that approach the narrative has taken and choices it made, i am unable to enjoy it. Happy it works for you though :)
FL is feeling guilty for not trying to understand her mother and somehow I think she feels like her own existence…
Changing crucial details in the past through time travel needed for your existence and thus erase yourself from ever exist with it,,, is certainly the most weird one out there, tho lmao 🤣
FL is feeling guilty for not trying to understand her mother and somehow I think she feels like her own existence…
Oh i know. It is still dumb as hell to go through such extremes to achieve that. But FL hasn't ever heard of "middle ground" nor "valuing herself" I guess 🙄😂
Not biologically, but he is set up to become the father in every sense of the word otherwise, particular in the…
He indeed is, and most likely set up to cause trouble for the leads once they are together for real, i bet. Sorry for oversharing story/too many details then, since i thought you asked bc of the whole sympathetic pregnancy thingie (that ML Taekyung is going to deal with in tomorrows eps), whoops 🤭
Not biologically, but he is set up to become the father in every sense of the word otherwise, particular in the end. And for someone "not the father" he is making a lot of expecting dad experiences right now, like a bio dad would. Despite them being a fake couple still, his bond/care for is growing stronger/deeper with FL and the child. And the sympathetic pregnancy (which is sociological effect not biological one, aka having high empathy/compathy with and closeness to the pregnant person) of ML in the show is meant to express that process happening with him, i think.
Sperm donor (lol) however was FL's shitty, cheating ex, Kim Junha.
The drama is so promising, im just really not fond wasting time on evil second leads getting too much screen time.…
i do think the focus on boring delulu clown is so amplified atm and probably will last for the next five to ten episodes due to her serving as a narrative tool to accelerate closeness between the leads and the realization of what they mean to each other. It will (hopefully) lessen again once that is achieved and madame mental is slinking away in defeat (until YD's ex comes back and they team up that is) So she is a very deranged but necessary evil for the leads atm, for them not just coasting to the self-imposed deadline without any conflict/friction ensuring their vigilance and in effect (growing) care for each other. It is an over-reliance on external conflict for relationship progression, sure, but that is how the writer rolls, i am afraid.
The writer is also setting up Jang Ho to be fully alienated by his daughter and the slow shift of him becoming part of YD's fam through befriending and getting closer to Bong Nim due to and counteracting the clowny schemes of his daughter. So her narrative purpose is two-fold in the show atm. Which means we will have to endure her for quite a while still.
Pro-tip to yall: Stop takin mental clown and her delulu circus seriously. I have long done so with joseon granny and it upped my enjoyment of this silly weekend drama tenfold 😆
Step 1: Travel back to the past where your parents are young Step 2: Ensure your parents never end up dating by keeping them apart at all times Step 3: ... Profit????????
This drama is testing my patience with how the leads kept very needlessly lying/secrets of each other for four whole damn episodes now, and FL being/acting nigh brain-dead because the plot demands all loss of common sense. There is also either too much pause between dialogue/silence or dialogue that adds nothing and just exist for the purpose of filling silence, so far. Sigh. And why are the scene cuts so damn rough? Seeing JKJ's char here being so dumb and too much of a deer in headlight, only makes me miss Go Seulhae from FNOS more, but with only 4 eps by now, i will give her a chance/room to improve.
Overall, there are glimpses, or more, of good within, which makes me stay (and Jin Ki Joo lbr) so i hope it gets better.
The problem here about this is, and as a german i was particularly irked by it, is the manner of comparing something trivial like a breakup/looking better to something so gruesome and grave like the holocaust in the NS era. On its own to tell this story of how and what people did to survive(d) Auschwitz is one thing and okay, but to take that story and the systemic genocide of people to compare it to Bora's situation and a mere breakup she went through? One thing is very disproportionate to the other in all regards and it is the very definition of tasteless and tone-deaf.
To say it was the worst analogy i ever had the misfortune to witness would have been a vast understatement. Yikes.
In Ep 14, at the end of the scene where TK helps out at the restuarant, it's mentioned that he brought BN a gift,…
TK brought the good old "Product Placement Vitamin Pills(tm)" and it had a whole dedicated scene showing them/the uncle taking that. Because in a 50 eps weekend drama they actually have time for nonsense like that 😂
Is it just me or did Yuri tell on herself while talking with Soohyuk? 😂😂😂 (That bit in the preview where she asks "did bora say i was two-timing?" And SH denying that she said something)
